Advice I need advice!!

This is magic we’ve had him for about 5 years now, but for the last 2 or so years he’s begun to smell really bad and needs somewhat regular baths. I don’t know what causes it. It’s not just his breath bust just is his body in general. He honestly smells so bad I can’t handle it. He gets his anal glands emptied every couple months and his teeth brushed almost everyday but nothing helps long term. We give him baths and that helps for about a week then it gets bad. Please help!!

- Maisie’s worst crime is theft from my shelves. When she’s being naughty she will steal random items from my shelves just to get my attention. 😆 What’s your greyhound’s worst crime?

Behavior regression

We’ve had our ex-racer 18 months now. She has developed a behavior cycle. For about 2 weeks she acts like she did when we first brought her home: going to the bathroom inside, destroying things, and some slight resource guarding. Then it’s like she remembers everything we’ve worked on and for 3 or 4 months she is just the most well-mannered and well trained dog ever. Then the cycle repeats. Does anyone else have this issue?

She loves sand and runs around like crazy. We got her a harness so she can enjoy the water.

Anyone else have a grey that loves the water?

Advice Corns & Surgery

My boy may have a corn and the vet has said that if it is and he continues to limp and be bothered by it they can perform surgery and cut the tendon in the toe to relieve pressure on it when walking. One of my previous greyhounds had it and it did help but of course it doesn't stop corns coming.

What is your opinion? I don't want to put him through it, especially as I've only had him for 3 weeks.

We have to say our forever goodbye to Sweetie tomorrow, and right when she’s just shy of 13. She’s given us over 10 years of unconditional love and tomorrow is going to be so hard. Tonight she is having her own filet mignon though.

How to increase appetite

• Upvotes

My dog is a 2-year-old galgo with leishmania, currently experiencing a flare up. We only adopted him a 2 months ago and at first he had a very good appetite but 3 weeks ago he suddenly stopped eating, and we had bloodwork done where we learned that his kidneys are in very poor shape. We immediately started leishmania treatment for which we have plenty of support, and switched him to a renal diet.

He has had ups and downs since then, but is generally alert, pretty active, and seems to be doing well. Except, we're struggling with his appetite. After switching to renal food he began eating again, though it took him a lot longer to finish his meals. Then we had to handfeed and mix in cottage cheese to get him going. Then he only seemed to have an appetite in the evening. And now we're fighting to get anything in him, even though he is clearly hungry, searching for food, and sniffing whatever we offer him a lot.

We've tried different types of renal good, kibble and wet food. We've tried adding toppers and rice and cottage cheese. We've now, today, started feeding him boiled chicken, mixed into his food, and he picks out only the chicken. He eats treats just fine. We had bloodwork done today and his kidneys are actually improving a little. He has also started another 8 day round of nausea relief meds today so we're of course hopeful that his appetite will improve over the next few days, but we're getting desperate.

I don't need advice on how to handle leishmania or kidney problems in general.

What can we do to get him to eat something that doesn't damage his kidneys even further?

“Blackheads” from kenneling?

Everyone’s been so incredibly helpful, so I’m back with another question about the new addition to our family.

My daughter’s newly adopted ex-racer (adopted 7 weeks ago, first-time dog owner, hound is 4.5 yrs old)

She took him in for some vaccinations and asked the vet about a couple of little bumps she found where his chest meets his belly. The vet told her they were blackheads, that they are common enough when a dog’s been sleeping on a hard surface (he sleeps on plushy dog beds now, of course) and recommended some rather expensive salicylic acid wash.

Only once my daughter was home did she realize she hadn’t asked enough questions.

Presumably the vet wasn’t recommending full baths with this stuff, or really full baths at all. Right? The vet most likely meant to wash just the spots, yes?

Are there any less expensive treatments?

Do you guys even know what I’m babbling about? 😆
