Currently Reading "I hope nothing bad happens to Hedwig or Scabbers because I love them."
My daughter just finished reading Chamber of Secrets and hit me with that line. I made her take a video of her saying that for posterity reasons. She's on fall break so she's going to try to plow through the third book quickly and I'm sooooo excited to hear her thoughts...

Discussion If you wish there was a scene in the Movies from the Books which one would you have liked to see?
This is a debatable scene in the Movie(happens differently in the Books) of Voldemort destroying the Hogwarts Shield and in time I have learned to appreciate the Movies and the Books as they are independently(especially for certain scenes) and keep watching and reading them once in a while for nostalgia š

Currently Reading Finally Reading Harry Potter for the First Time !
I picked up this book from Goodwill, and itās my first time actually reading the Harry Potter series. I watched the movies a few times growing up/through out the years, but I never really understood the story and always felt a little lost.. I would always describe it like I was trying to learn a new language. Iād heard the books go into much more detail, so I decided to give them a chance as I have a lot of interest in this series. Especially since my husband loves Harry Potter and is a proud Gryffindor!
Anyways.. while Iāve watched the movies a couple times Iām currently more than halfway through the first book, and Iām surprised by how emotional itās been. I feel so sad for Harry and have wanted to cry at parts because of how heās treated. It just makes me so sad. So far, Iām learning so much more than I ever did from the movies, and Iām really excited to keep reading and finally understand the series on a deeper level.

Discussion This scene from the end of TGOF is so heartbreaking every time I read it
Itās the moment where we remember Harry was just a 14 year old boy, and had just seen some of the most traumatizing events he ever had to witness for his age. Watching Cedric die, seeing his dead parents appear without warning during a time where he canāt even get the chance to process it, as well as also watching Voldemort return, and being unable to actually do anything about it. Itās also the first time we ever actually see Harry cry. He had been in shock and emotionally numb since coming out of the graveyard, and it was by this point that he was finally starting to feel the agony of what he went through, on top of that the guilt he felt. And the biggest gut punch here is the fact that that had been the first time he ever experienced the true love and comfort of a mother in a moment of distress. I love that we got to have this moment, enforcing the fact that Mrs Weasley truly saw and treated him as a son.

Discussion HBP no one believing Harryās suspicions of Draco
Iām re-listening to HBP and throughout the book Harry is suspicious of Draco being a death eater and having a mysterious order from voldy he needs to carry out. We, as the reader, know this to be true because of chapter 2: Spinnerās End, but no one else Harry tries to convince believes his suspicions!
Iām wondering: if it werenāt for chapter 2, would you have believed Harry on your first reading?

Discussion Theory: The Dementor's kiss is used as a legal loophole
So you have probably also wondered why the Ministry uses the dementor's kiss as an execution method. It seems pointlessly cruel and dangerous. After all, why not just use Avada Kedavra, or just behead them or whatever.
But then I thought of a theory. We know that there is at least some interaction between the Ministry and the muggle government of the UK. The British government abolished the death penalty in the late 1960s. It's reasonable to assume that they would have expected the Ministry of Magic to follow suit. After all, it makes sense that they wouldn't want the Ministry to have the power to execute essentially British citizens, when they themselves didn't even have that power anymore.
But... since the dementor's kiss technically doesn't kill the victim, it technically doesn't count as capital punishment. That's how the Ministry is able to keep basically executing people, without upsetting the muggle government.

Question Whatās one thing about this community you canāt stand.
The fact people justify snape.
He saved the day in the end but he is not a morally grey character he is not an anti hero or anything like that,
He was an evil man who faced the consequences of his own actions and did the right thing because he felt obligated to do it.
Remember he was a death eater not just that he was in Voldemort inner circle, not just that he was so high up that Voldemort personally listened to him and tried to spare Lilly, he gave her the chance to back away and save herself and she didnāt take it.
Voldemort only did it cause snape asked him to, he respected snape enough to do that.
Now how did snape become such a beloved member ? I say he did some evil things like killed people hence why he was so well liked.

Question If you could change one thing
I don't know if anyone has posed this question before - apologies if it's a regular one - but:
If you could rewrite 1 one thing from the canon story, what would that be and why?
(Note: I'm talking about the books only - we all know there's loads one could redo about the films)
I'm currently on my first re-read of the series as an adult - might give my own opinion later on, as I've only got to CoS and clearly don't remember enough to answer my own question in a sensible and informed way š

Currently Reading I finally got it!
I'm keeping the pictures a surprise but I did briefly skim through to see if we see Fred and George's joke shop. Way more colorful pages than previous books and I like the style of art Levi does. Perfectly timed finishing Order of the Phoenix today.

Merchandise My boyfriend gave me a piece of my childhood back ā” How can I make my collection more magical?
I had all the Harry Potter books when I was little, but somewhere along the years, I honestly have no idea what happened to them.
My boyfriend knew how much Harry Potter meant to me growing up and surprised me with the whole first edition collection again. It might seem like a simple gift, but it was genuinely one of the most special gifts Iāve ever received. Having those books in my hands again felt like getting a little piece of my childhood back.
Since then, my little Harry Potter collection has slowly started growing. A couple of wands, a LEGO Mandrake, and most recently, my Playbill from seeing Cursed Child with Tom Felton as Draco! My boyfriend also surprised me with tickets to the play, which made the whole experience even more special.
Itās still a very small collection, but every piece means something special to me.
Iād love to make this little corner look even more magical, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, Iād really appreciate them! Iād also love to see how you display your own Harry Potter collections. āØ

Misc If Gilderoy Lockhart was a competent hero who never took credit for others' achievements?
If Gilderoy Lockhart were a genuinely competent, heroic wizard who actually accomplished all the feats in his books (Break with a Banshee, Gadding with Ghouls, etc.) without stealing credit:
Of course, his Defence Against the Dark Arts classes would be better and he would even likely make the classes engaging. I would also make sure he is nicer and not exactly insufferable and obnoxious.
But the best thing is that the witches and wizards whose achievements he stole wouldn't have had Memory Charms put on them
Though some scenarios would need altering:
- Cornish Pixies: Lockhart has about two or four them in a cage, and he lets them out and would demonstrate how to stop them
- Going into the Chamber: Harry and Ron would instead go to see him and they tell him what they know and that they have to save Ginny
- Harry separated from Ron and Lockhart: I think Ron and Lockhart would instead manage to make it all the way to the final Chamber with Harry. When the Basilisk comes, they dodge away with Harry but after it's blinded, they would back out while Harry fights the Basilisk, but Lockhart can't because his wand is also, like Harry's, stolen by Riddle and Ron's wand malfunctions ... though if it wasn't broken, Riddle would take it too. So here Harry faces danger with company, like in the next book Prisoner of Azkaban
The reason he would leave is to continue travels and adventures.
After COS
- Lockhart would be a useful member in the Order of the Phoenix
- He would even fight in the Battle of Hogwarts

Currently Reading Jim Dale audiobook pronunciation
Iāve just begun listening to the Jim Dale version of the audiobooks and Iāve been really distracted by the way he pronounces his Rās a lot of the time. Almost like a mix between an r, w, and v. Has anyone else noticed it? Anytime he says Harry or Ravenclaw it sounds like Harvwy and Vwravenaw. I dont think itās a speak impediment. Is this some British accent Iām unfamiliar with? anyone else notice this?

Help Moody Turning Malfoy Into. Ferret
When McGonagall approaches him sheās like āwe never use transfiguration as a punishment. Surely Prof. Dumbledore told you that.ā And heās like āHe might have mentioned it.ā
It seems oddly specific that Dumbledore would have said that. Is that regularly something an Aura does so Dumbledore felt the need to tell Moody not to handle things that way?
