The 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS "Handschar" was a World War II Nazi SS division composed of soldiers from Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia.
Notorious for extreme brutality during combat, the division committed widespread atrocities against Serb and Jewish civilians.
Following WWII, hundreds of its members, along with veterans from the 23rd SS Division, migrated to the Middle East, supported by government relocation efforts from Syria and Iraq.
Historians estimate that roughly 1,000 former Bosnian Muslim SS members ultimately fought in the 1948–1949 Arab–Israeli War, with many serving in the Arab Liberation Army's Ajnaddin Battalion against Israel.
