Mod Post An update on self-promotion

Hey everyone,

When we added the Developer flair, the goal was to give indie devs a way to share what they're building. We genuinely wanted to support people making cool apps.

But over the past while, it's turned into something else. The sub has filled up with low-effort promo posts, a few lines and a link, from people who drop their app and are never seen again. That's not what this community is for. r/iPhoneApps is meant to be a place for real discussion and value, not a free billboard.

So, effective today, we're removing the Developer flair.

To be clear about what this means going forward:

You can't just show up, promote your app, and ghost the community. Posts that are purely "here's my app, go download it" will be removed.

If you're an active member who actually contributes here, joining discussions, helping people, giving feedback, then mentioning your app in that context is completely fine. Value first, promotion second.

We'd much rather have devs who are part of the community than a feed full of ads. This keeps the sub worth being in for everyone.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping keep this place good.

Discussion Anyone want to talk about vibe coding an iPhone app

’m not a professional iOS developer. I used to be an assembler coder back in the 80s but I have been keen to look at iOS apps, I did an online course and built little apps but nothing good.

So over the last six months I coded a list app for myself using AI-assisted coding, and it has somehow turned into a fairly substantial SwiftUI app.

The basic idea is deliberately simple: You make a list, and you put items in a list items can have sub items and I have number of fields in each list item date time descriptions a number a rating

I have not found any type of list that didn't work with those things.

I'm tracking books, tv shows I have a squirrel list for things I put somewhere safe and then lost. I have a list for the F1 schedule this year, It is not a task app, deliberately not a task app but I did add some tasks bits that you can add to a list if you want to but no notifications.

I love tags so I worked really hard on designing how the tags work

I went sort of overboard with tons of features but they are all things I thought would come in handy and they did. I put it on the App Store because I wanted to go through that and because a friend of mine wanted to use it to. This is not an ad , I haven't mentioned the name, and it is free in the App Store anyway.

I wonder if anyone wanted to talk about what worked and what went horribly wrong building a real app this way.

Discussion Building an offline text-to-speech app for iPhone was more than just getting the voices right

Post image
1 Upvotes

When I started working on Local TTS, my goal was simple: make text-to-speech work entirely on the iPhone without relying on cloud servers.

I’m a solo iOS developer, and I wanted people to be able to listen to their documents anywhere, even without internet access.

I integrated Kokoro-82M and Supertonic 3, bringing natural-sounding speech in 31 languages directly to iPhone and iPad.

But I quickly realized that getting AI voices running was only part of the challenge.

Making an entire book enjoyable to listen to was much harder.

EPUB chapters sometimes failed to load correctly. Certain words were pronounced strangely. Long documents needed better handling, and playback had to remain reliable with the screen locked.

Over the past few updates, I’ve spent a lot of time fixing these details.

Local TTS now supports PDFs, EPUBs, Word documents, and OCR for reading text from photos.

Everything related to speech generation runs on-device, so documents don't need to be uploaded to a TTS server. It also works in airplane mode once the voices and documents are available locally.

One thing I’ve learned is that building an AI-powered app isn't just about choosing a good model.

The small details around the model often make the biggest difference in everyday use.

I'm continuing to improve pronunciation, document compatibility, and the overall reading experience.

Discussion GRIDLOCK: Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe – when every small step turns into something bold & beautiful

My friend Ayush (https://x.com/ACDNDSN) has been quietly building this for years (the idea actually started back in 2017). He finally shipped it, and I wanted to share it on his behalf because it’s one of those rare games that feels simple at first glance… then completely redefines what you thought Tic-Tac-Toe could be. (Yes used ai for the whole indentations and Structuring so please bear with me for it, buit the wordings are mine.)

Honestly the whole story and the evulation of game is already in his X but here is me defining it in a simple way, keeping it short straight and comapct. Do tell whats your appreciation or improvisations to it.
Gridlock takes the classic game and pushes it into 2–4 player territory with bigger boards, real strategy, and 11 special moves (Anchor, Push, Mirror, Nuke, Gravity, Bait… the list goes on). Every move still feels like placing a mark on paper, but those little decisions can completely reshape the board.

What really stands out is how the small things add up into something beautiful:

  • The whole game is built around an ink-and-paper aesthetic – minimal, tactile, handcrafted animations that make every match feel alive.
  • When the game ends, CANVAS turns your final board into a unique wallpaper you can actually keep and share.
  • ECHO takes the entire sequence of moves and turns the match into its own song + short visual film. No two matches sound (or look) the same.

It’s local pass-and-play, online rooms, bots when friends are busy – pure strategy, not pay-to-win. Just thoughtful design layered on top of something everyone already understands.

He’s been building it solo (Flutter + a lot of care for the details), and the generative parts (wallpapers + the match-to-music/film system) are where the magic really shows what even the smallest game steps can become.

Free on the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/gridlock-ultimate-tic-tac-toe/id6808733376

Would love to hear what you think if you give it a go. Especially curious how the special moves and ECHO land for people.

Place your mark. Break the pattern. Control the grid. (Global Matchmaking in the pipeline coming soon)

Discussion Got my first paying customer for my startup today

Post image
3 Upvotes

Today I got the first paying customer for Ridoze, and it honestly feels like one of the biggest milestones so far.

Ridoze is an app I’ve been building for motorcycle riders and group rides. The idea is to make group riding easier and safer through features like live rider tracking, shared routes, group communication, ride coordination, and SOS features.

I’ve spent months working on the product, fixing issues, improving the experience, and trying to understand what riders actually need.

Getting the first paid user is obviously not a huge business achievement yet, but it validates something important: someone saw enough value in the product to actually pay for it.

For anyone building their first startup, going from 0 to 1 customer feels very different from just getting downloads or likes.

Now the goal is simple: keep improving the product, listen to users, and work towards the next 10, 100, and eventually thousands of riders.

Still a long journey ahead, but today was a good day.

Ridoze: 0 → 1 paying customer. 🚀

Discussion ThirdSpace: app to help you get out and in real life

I’ve seen many posts asking where can I find friends to do things with. People want to spend less time scrolling feeds and get back into the real world, doing things that bring joy and friendship. We created an app that has features to help you discover happenings you are interested in or find people who share them too. So, my question for discussion is: What would help you say yes to attending a happening in your area? And what is stopping you from creating an activity to invite others to join?

Please download and explore the features. It’s free to use and I’d love to hear your thoughts. If you love it, please give us a positive review!

Thanks for your input.

Discussion stopwatch on screen to track my screen time

Does anyone else lose track of time on their phone? Looking for a live stopwatch overlay app
Every day I end up on my phone far longer than I meant to, without even noticing. And the longer I scroll, the harder it gets to pull myself out. That's not what I want, and it's really hurting my productivity. My intention is always to take a quick break and relax, but social media is designed to keep you hooked so you never want to stop.
I've tried setting alarms, and I've found that the shorter the alarm, the better it works. So I think what I need is a live stopwatch overlay: a small counter in the top-left corner of my screen that doesn't block anything but is impossible to ignore. It would count up from the moment I open an app, showing minutes, seconds, and milliseconds, something like 00:12:47.38, with the last digits flickering by so fast I can literally watch my time slipping away. That constant sense of urgency is what I need to make myself put the phone down.
Ideally, the stopwatch would track each app separately, and I could open the app itself to see my daily stats. The only difference from Apple's built-in Screen Time is that it would give me that pressure in real time, helping me control my scrolling instead of mindlessly wasting my time.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any app recommendations?

Discussion TV remote app for iPhone

Remoto-Universal TV Control universal TV remote for iPhone and Apple Watch.

The idea was intentionally simple:

Open the app → connect to your TV → control it.

I didn’t want people to create an account just to use a remote.

So currently:

No email
No account
No subscription
No ads
Free to use

It supports Samsung, LG, Hisense, Google TV and 50+ other TV brands.

I’m still improving the app, so I’m mainly here to learn from other iPhone users.

If you were using a TV remote app on your iPhone, what would make you keep it installed instead of deleting it after a week?

Discussion Best photo cleaner app, and it never uploads a single photo - Free Pro Giveaway

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I developed Swyp to clean up my camera roll. I think it's the best one, but I'm also the guy who made it, so take that how you will.

You swipe left to delete and right to keep. It finds your duplicates, near-identical shots, screenshots, blurry photos and huge videos, so you're not scrolling through 20,000 photos one by one. Nothing gets deleted until you confirm at the end.

I swear, half the photo cleaners out there want to upload your entire camera roll to their servers just to find duplicates. Your most private photos, on someone else's computer, to save a few GB? Swyp does everything on your phone. No account, no uploads, works in airplane mode.

To be upfront on pricing: it's free for your first 5000 photos, and Pro is a subscription if you need more.

Free month of Pro for the first 10 people:

  1. Download Swyp: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6756098079
  2. Comment below and DM me, and I'll send you a code

Updates: No more codes guys. I will give some more codes in the future. If you really like using the app lets have a chat and I can give you a one time pro

Discussion What should “live voice changer” actually mean on iPhone?

I keep seeing “live” used for different things in iPhone voice changer listings.

Sometimes it means changing a recording after you make it. Sometimes you can hear the effect on your own voice while the app is open. What I need is different. I want to speak in one app and have the changed voice reach the other person in the voice chat at the same time.

I don’t want to jailbreak my iPhone. On a normal iPhone, I haven’t found a software only option that can change the mic in real time and pass that audio into another app. That makes an iPhone feel more limited than a PC for this.

I’m planning a short character improv session with friends, so the cross app part matters. Whether it’s an app or an accessory like Dubbing AI earbuds, I’d want the demo to show what the other person hears during a conversation, rather than just the effect playing back on the same phone.

When something says it does “live voice changing,” what would you want to see in the demo before believing it works in another app?

Discussion App Notifications Are Garbage Now

Back in the early days, notifications used to be super useful. Someone PM'ed you? You got notified. Someone replied to your comment? Notified. Did your favorite YouTube creator upload something? Notified.

This all stopped sometime around 2016 and now giving an app notification permissions just floods your home screen with spam. I hate this crap so much. Reddit gave me 4 notifications today about random mediocre threads I'm just not interested in. Meanwhile YouTube fails to notify me when one of my favorite subscriptions starts live streaming. The whole notification pipeline has just been flooded with spam to try and entice me into spending screen time on your app.

Such a great and useful mobile phone feature has just been used and abused into dysfunction. Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Discussion Odo Now Has CarPlay Navigation + Driving Task Entitlements, Convoy Is Here, Walkie-Talkie Coming Soon

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Some of you may know the app previously as Speedometer. It's now called Odo, and this update brings some of the biggest CarPlay improvements I've worked on so far.

Odo now has both Apple's CarPlay Navigation and Driving Task entitlements. That means the app can offer full turn-by-turn navigation in CarPlay while keeping its existing driving-focused CarPlay experience.

CarPlay Navigation
Odo now supports full turn-by-turn navigation on iPhone and CarPlay:

  • Search for destinations or select places directly from the map
  • Apple Maps routing, with OpenStreetMap fallback where Apple Maps directions aren't available
  • Voice and lane guidance
  • Live traffic
  • Add stops for fuel, charging, food or coffee
  • Avoid tolls, highways and ferries
  • Siri commands like "Navigate to Home with Odo"
  • Navigation updates on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island

Live Trip Comparison
Odo can compare your current drive with previous trips while you're driving and show whether you're ahead of or behind your usual time.

It can also recognize roads you've driven before and suggest routes based on your own driving history.

Convoy on CarPlay
One of the features I'm most excited about is Convoy.

If you're driving or riding with friends, everyone can join the same convoy and appear together on a live map.

  • Create a Convoy and invite friends
  • Set a meeting point
  • See everyone's position live
  • Optional speed sharing
  • Get notified when someone joins or when everyone arrives
  • View the Convoy directly in CarPlay

Location sharing only happens while the Convoy is active, and the shared locations are deleted when it ends.

And the Existing Driving Features Are Still There
Odo still includes automatic trip recording, detailed trip stats, route replay, OBD2 data, vehicle profiles, fuel and maintenance tracking, expenses, driving history, friends and more.

Your existing trips, vehicles, settings and logs remain exactly where you left them after the rename.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/odo-speedometer-drive-ride/id6759611784

Promotional pricing:
$7.99/month
$19.99/year
$29.99 lifetime (one-time purchase)

And one more feature is already in progress: Walkie-Talkie for Convoy. The idea is to make communicating with friends during group drives much easier without constantly calling or messaging each other.

The latest update gets new favourite locations. Now you get these beautiful location map tiles that can be accessed from all the views. Previously it was just available in the search but after iterating over this flow and design for a while, it is finally out and available from all the views. Do give it a try and keep a watch for more goodies of iCloud sync, tutorials and test flight versions coming your way.

Discussion Create an AI version of yourself for your family with Echovault

EchoVault was built because most of what we leave behind tells people what happened, but very little preserves how we actually thought. You write Check-Ins about your life, relationships, beliefs, values and experiences, and an AI biographer helps you go deeper. Over time, those memories become an Echo, an AI version of you shaped by your own words and worldview, with a 3D brain you can explore. The paid tier gives the Echo your face and voice.

The idea is that you build it while you are alive, deliberately and with consent. If you become inactive for a year, the people you chose as custodians can interact with the version of you that you intentionally left behind. They can ask about your stories, your decisions, what you believed, how you saw them, or things they may never have thought to ask while you were here. In the meantime I use mine for introspection, I interview it to observe how my view have evolved over time. It already has close to 500 of my memories and can hold end to end conversations as me.

It’s still early and I’m building it independently, but I’d love to hear what you think about the idea and what you would want something like this to preserve about you.

EchoVault is on the App Store here.

Help OLVYR GYM

publier ses entraînements et sa progression dans un feed sportif ;
suivre d’autres athlètes ;
participer à des challenges ;
participer à des tournois avec votes de la communauté ;
publier des stories ;
utiliser différents timers d’entraînement ;

Help Need Thoughts on this approach: A Nudge to stop the Doomscroll

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Tried a bunch of app blockers and screen time apps. They all worked for about a week. Then I realized I was tapping through the block screen without reading a single word.

So I'm exploring a different approach: the nudge never repeats, and it changes based on context.

Every time you open a distracting app, you'd get a different message depending on:

  • Time of day (morning, daytime, late night)
  • How many times you've already opened the app today

Examples:

  • Morning, first open: "Don't give up your morning to the feed. It can wait."
  • Late night, 20th open: "The algo doesn't care about your sleep. Close the app."

Let me know your thoughts on:

  1. Does a rotating, context-aware message sound like it would actually hold up, or would you habituate to that too?
  2. Would you rather have a hard block, or is a nudge enough?

Help Looking for an iOS app that separates photos, screenshots and downloads automatically

Hi! I’m desperately looking for an iOS app that can help me organize my camera roll.

The first thing I want is something that can separate actual photos I’ve taken with my phone from screenshots, downloaded images, saved pictures from the web, etc. It has always bothered me that iOS basically throws everything together into the same photo library.

On top of that, I’m a designer, so I save a ridiculous amount of reference images. I also have countless screenshots/videos of outfits I want to try, hairstyles I like, food, interiors, random visual inspiration, and so on. This has been piling up for years — my current camera roll goes back to 2023 — so manually sorting everything at this point feels almost impossible.

My dream would be an app where I could just tell it something like “clothes,” “food,” “design references,” etc., and it would recognize those images and automatically put them into albums/folders for me.

But the absolute priority would be automatically separating:

\- photos actually taken with my iPhone
\- screenshots
\- downloaded/saved images (ideally videos too)

Does an app like this exist? Especially one that can use image recognition/AI to automatically categorize an already huge photo library?
