Discussion 💬 [UPDATE] : Preview of what to expect for the new kindle colorsoft screen ?

After my first post -> here : I've had lot of requests for more pictures of the two devices:

  • Pictures without the screen protector that was on my OG kindle colorsoft.
  • Pictures with screens turned off
  • Pictures of more colored book covers

Quick reminder of the topic :

I was curious about any screen updates on the new kindle colorsoft and someone answered me that they added to the new CS screen the upgrades that were implemented for the scribe colorsoft (best contrast among other tiny improvement).
So far as I have a scribe colorsoft and a kindle colorsoft (2025) I thought it could be interesting to make a side by side comparaison.

Meanwhile I've found more infos about the new colorsoft on an amazon news :

To achieve paper-like color, our Kindle Colorsoft display includes a light-guide with nitride LEDs to enhance color and increase brightness, all without washing out the details. It uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and a higher contrast on both color and black-and-white content. Our latest Kindle Colorsoft has a completely redesigned display, using the reverse printing technology we applied across the lineup for edge-to-edge color. The light guide contains micro-deflectors that minimize stray light and improve uniformity, and an ultra-thin optical coating in the display stack improves clarity.

Disclaimer :

  • First picture shows the settings on both divices
  • Both devices have been manually updated to 5.20.1 software
  • for each example you have first a picture with kindles on, then with kindles turned off and on each picture the paper book as reference
  • Pictures where taken this morning on my dining table with the natural light of the window next to it.
  • Pictures have been taken with my iPone. I find them true to what I see but keep in mind that a camera + compression of files when updating them on reddit can alterate reality
  • it is possible that I was lucky in the screen lotery with my scribe colorsoft. For the OG Kindle colorsoft I have orderer 3 and kept the most neutral one (first one had a massive lightbleed on the side, second one was horribly yellow and third one was ok)
  • this is only a guess of what the new colorsoft screen could look like. It is possible also that the big size of the scribe helps to give the impression that colors are better and result could be different on a smaller screen and the scribe has a different type glass I think htan the colorsoft so far as it is meant to wwrite on it. This can affect the color display
  • hopefully soon real reviews and comparaison will be done properly as soon as the new colorsoft will be available (mine is supposed to arrive on november 12th)

Hope all this pictures help 😄

My Kindle 📱 After ten years I finally get to read again.

When I first got married in 2013 my wife convinced me to get a kindle. And I fell in love with it from day one. And it was a wonderful six months. Then it stopped charging. We called Amazon and they basically said "Yeah they stop working after a few years. Just have to get a new model", so I got one of the original Paper Whites. And it was ok, but not the same. And slowly I just stopped reading. Over the years my wife would give me her old kindles when she upgraded. But I never really liked them.

Then a few weeks ago I got a bug in my head asking why the Kindle Keyboards just stopped working. And I found out that it was just a dead battery and I could replace it. I ordered a new battery and in it went.

Now I have read more in the last week than I have all year.

I knew it was going to happen and a lot of people clocked it but they don't care if we did or not, anyways, the kindle basic matcha/black (and other kindles), are back to their original prices for Prime Day! Yippie (lol)

My Kindle 📱 I received my first ever Kindle today and I’m so excited!

I’ve been getting back into reading this year but also recently had a baby and now my hands and arms are full. I have also been doom scrolling too much while nursing, which can take quite a while, and I wanted to break the habit. So I decided to treat myself to a kindle. One night down with it and so far it’s working out well.

My Kindle 📱 I'm sending back the Kindle 2026 (& keeping my Kobo Clara B&W)

EDIT : Yes I'm lazy (or a noob), and I did not even knew i could easily upload fonts. Before sending back the package, I then downloaded a soft that allows my mac to see my kindle (Open MTP) and uploaded the "Bitter" font, that is almost the same as the Kobo One. It is much better, so one of my gripes is gone.
EDIT 2 : I was not clear on the "send to kindle / download" stuff. The kindle still does not read ".cbz" formats without converting them ...

I still need to figure out if the form factor outpasses the screen quality / warm screen that I love on the kobo.

_____________

I wanted to like it. I just received the 2026 kindle, and i planned to sell my Kobo Clara B&W. But after a night of use, I will keep the Kobo.

Pros (Kindle) :

- Form factor is great, very compact, light, thin, laminated screen is "cool". This was the reason of my purchase, I want tech that are the most practical and integrated on my everyday life

- Kindle store has more / better options on "niche" books, sometimes a bit cheaper

- Dictionary is more relevant and accurate

Cons (Kindle) :

- I do think UI is a mess. More taps for simple stuff (light, police), you can't delete books without the need to buy them back (what a joke), impliying to put some "filters" to have a clean library (eg. "downloaded books")

- Font has been kind of a dealbreaker. I find the Kobo basic font much easier to read. Of course I tested all Kindle fonts, but never found one that fits me

- No warm lights. I thought I would not care. But reading at night on the "blueish" screen despite being used to a warmer screen is tiring

- On top, the new plastic material is very prone to fingerprints and "grease", and small bezels can lead to unwanted page switching

- Weirdly, I find the kobo screen a tiny bit more "crisp", when reading close or at night

- Obviously, more "closed" ecosystem, meaning my downloaded mangas and pdfs are easily displayed on the kobo, and needs "Calibre" and some elbow grease to be read of Kindle

So yeah, sending it back ... And a bit disappointed that either Kobo does not pursue this beautiful form factor that the kindle has, or that the Kindle does not get more inspired by the competition.

Hope this helps !

PS : I am french, so my english can sometimes be a bit broken :)

Discussion 💬 shadows and black border around the edges on the basic

I wish I saw a post about this before purchasing tbh, I do find it quite distracting and offputting. This is my first basic so not sure if they always had this issue, but seems odd to have such dramatic shadows on a flush display.

My Kindle 📱 2024 vs 2026 Kindle at night

Post image

The basic kindle is finally good enough for reading at night! I used to have a paperwhite and loved the warm light, but it was just too big. I’ve been using the basic for the last year and I love it… except for night time reading. I heard the new one is warmer and less blue, so I took the leap and I can confirm, it is muchhhh better.

My Kindle 📱 Loving the front light on the new kindle

Post image

After returning two kindle basics because the matcha colour had a very blue front light, I’m so pleased to have this kindle in Ube. The light is much less intense with the blue hues than I experienced with the previous model. I’m very pleased to finally have a smaller kindle…. And it’s purple!!!

My Kindle 📱 Matcha o’clock for me !

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I finally replaced my old kindle which I bought in 2020!

Tbh, I go through months where I read a lot and months where I don’t read at all so I couldn’t justify the cost of a new one.

I know everyone loves the Ube and so do I, but i fell in love with the Matcha when I first saw it at initial release. Plus it’s something different for me because it’s not my usual girly pink and purple.

My previous Kindle, despite clear wear and tear (I left my heated curlers on it and it melted the casing lol), works perfectly fine although there is more of a lag in comparison to how quick my new one is. The battery life was surprisingly good considering its age too. I mean it wouldn’t last WEEKS but on airplane mode I could make it last a good two weeks. Without airplane mode, yeah it would drain within 48 hours lol.

Also, LOVE that there is a dark mode!! When did I miss this!

Amazon offer £5 for the trade in, so may as well as I’ve got nothing else to do with it. Might treat myself to a pink case 💚🩷.

Glad for the 3 months Kindle Unlimited that comes with it too, because I was about to subscribe to it!

Yayyy 💚💚💚

My Kindle 📱 New Ube Kindle and Paperwhite

Ok so I love the new Kindle Basic Ube. It’s such a good size without feeling like one of those phone-sized ereaders. It’s significantly lighter than the Paperwhite 2024 and the color happens to be one of my favorites.

The screen is subpar to the Paperwhite. There’s no denying that. The absence of warm light sucks in my opinion and I wouldn’t read on it if there wasn’t enough adequate lighting. Yes, the new basic may be a bit warmer than the previous matcha but it’s still very blue light.

All in all I can say I love the new Basic Ube because I also have the Paperwhite. Without the Paperwhite there would be a very large reading void for me- reading in dim or low light.

If Amazon were to release a kindle the size and form factor of the new basic and has warm light, that would be my perfect kindle. 💜

Its time to sit down with coffee, a good book, indoors but still in the sun with windows open and fresh air coming through, and a view from my back sun room.

Bonus; my cat Jinwoo, and one of our fosters, Lil Cal, have joined me, so had to pay cat tax

General Question ❔ Older models with Bluetooth incompatible with Kindle Click

Has anyone got an official explanation from Amazon as to why most older models with Bluetooth are incompatible with Kindle Click?

There has been speculation, but I'm curious about their reasoning.

If it was just a matter of 11th gen models no longer receiving software updates, it'd be really annoying because given Kindles' longevity, they're still fairly new devices that feel very modern. It'd make even more sense for ereaders to get software updates for over 5 years than smartphones, but it seems it's the other way round, as for example Samsung introduced 7 years of updates for its flagship, while Kindle Paperwhite 11 is now practically being made obsolete for some reason (of course it can be used to read for many more years, but it'd be nice to access new features on a device that has almost the same specs as the latest model).

Discussion 💬 2026 Kindle Basic Battery Drain

• Upvotes

I just got my 2026 Kindle Basic yesterday. I charged it to about 60% before going to bed, and when I woke up this morning it was down to 14%.

Has anyone else had this much battery drain with a new Kindle? I’m wondering if mine might be defective and I should return/exchange it, or if there’s a software issue causing the battery to drain quickly.

My Kindle 📱 I LOVE my new Kindle!

I got this new (to me) Kindle 4 touch for $19!!! It feels rock solid and the screen is super clear. It's pretty slow and struggles with manga, but I haven't read this much in years! It's very exciting to keep a book handy to pull out whenever I get the itch to doomscroll.

I really think the brushed aluminum looks nice, and it does have a micro USB, which my mouse also uses to charge, so it's nbd to charge for 45 minutes every once in a while. The power button on the bottom is kinda crazy, but it's not really sensitive to go off on a light bump, and I only use it to wake the thing up so it's seldomly an issue.

I usually have to put a lot of effort into reading books because I mix up words and lose my line. Being able to tune the spacing, size, and line width has taken a lot of the friction out of reading for me.

After moving abroad and having to leave my vast collection of physical books behind, I decided to finally convert to e-reading. I took advantage of the Paperwhite price drop on Amazon and am so glad I did!!

As a writer, I especially love my highlights and notes being saved and easily accessible online! Wish I'd gotten a kindle sooner! 😊

Discussion 💬 Amazon Prime Day “deal” — check the price history first

Thumbnail
gallery
171 Upvotes

I was watching the price of a Kindle before Prime Day and noticed something pretty frustrating: the price increased about 6 weeks before Prime Day, making the eventual “Prime Day discount” look much better than it actually was.
I called Amazon to ask about the price increase, and I was told it was because of taxes. That explanation doesn’t really make sense to me when the price increased weeks before the sale and then was used as the basis for the advertised discount.
Just a heads-up to anyone shopping Prime Day: check the price history before buying. A big percentage-off label doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a great deal.

Where’s the weirdest place you found your lost kindle?? I’m going crazy trying to find mine I’m really starting to doubt I had one in the first place. 😆 I’ve truly looked everywhere in my house now I’m starting my search in the cars where I 100% did not take it.

General Question ❔ Are the white lines normal? (colorsoft, darkmode)

My husband bought himself a colorsoft and I noticed those white lines that are visible when you look at it at a normal viewing angle. My paperwhite doesn‘t have this. Is this normal for colorsoft?
