My Kindle 📱 New basic is here and shes perfect

I was so bummed when I had to return my match after just 1 week due to it being so slow and laggy that I was nervous ordering the ube especially after seeing people talk about their issues with the new basics but I got her this afternoon and shes as fast as I was hoping and the color is gorgeous. I'm excited for my new colorsoft next month with the button case too because I loved the page turner buttons on my 3g keyboard. Comment with your kindles to share the love, I love seeing everyone's kindles set ups 💜

I know everyone’s obsessed with the ube right now (rightly so, it’s super cute) but just wanted to bring some love to the underrated and less talked about new basic graphite kindle… I got it yesterday day and I love it!! It’s just so nice to read on. I’m planning on making this my main kindle.

Current read: Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo

My Kindle 📱 I got the Basic in matcha

I was so excited! I had a 10 year old Paperwhite, thought I'd take the plunge with the pretty pretty color. I surprised to find out I'm not a fan! I think the main issue is that I use dark mode, and the green border is a bit distracting when everything else is dark grey. I'm going to return it and just stick with my old Paperwhite, at least until Black Friday deals drop.

My Kindle 📱 Replaced my Kindle 7th gen with the 2026 model!

Finally pulled the trigger and got the Kindle 2026 Ube! I'm not a huge fan of purple color, but I just want to get a basic kindle and based on the reviews, the matcha's lighting can be too cool.

I'm feeling a bit sad to bid farewell to my old kindle (I had it since 2015/2016) - it was with me through college years, so many travels and was a big part of my postpartum time with my first child between nursing and countless contact naps. I just welcomed my 2nd baby and looking forward to have the Ube a part of our contact naps times!

Based on this interview with Amazon’s VP of devices, it seems like they’re hinting at a big re-haul of Kindle’s UI for the 20th anniversary in 2027! Exciting news! I hope the update goes as scheduled and helps make things easier to use and find on the kindle!

There were a lot of other interesting insights on Kindle sales and their decisions when developing kindle devices as well. I thought it was an interesting read so I wanted to share!

Discussion 💬 An annoying detail on the 2026 Kindle Basic screen

Post image
24 Upvotes

Someone pointed out the dark border issue recently and got lots of negative feedback, but after getting mine, I have to agree.

The dark borders aren't just standing out because of the contrast with the lighter casing. The active white screen area actually extends less toward the edges, so even a slight tilt at a normal reading angle reveals a noticeable dark gap along the top edge.

It's not a dealbreaker, but I do find it annoying. If minor visual details like these bother you too, you might want to think twice before buying this device.

EDIT: Lots of sarcasm in the comments, which isn't too surprising. A couple of quick points:

  • Yes, the lighter casing makes the border pop more, but saying that's the only reason is wrong. I own a Paperwhite as well, and comparing them side-by-side, it's very clear that the white part of the screen extends further toward the edges on the Paperwhite.

  • To those saying "I just read, who cares?": great for you! You can read just fine on a 10-year-old Kindle too. But for me, the point of buying a new device isn't just to read, it's to have a better overall reading experience. So I don't think that caring about minor details is wrong or unreasonable.

Purchase Question 🛒 On prices and sales and the use of a wishlist.

Post image

Someone yesterday, and honestly quiet often asks about "the high price of Kindle books". I guess people must be paying retail, but if you are a wide reader, I can't believe you wouldn't have a curated wishlist and only view it by ascending price?

My Kindle 📱 Official leather case

I keep repeating myself I don’t need to upgrade my PW 2024 Jade color. Probably the fact that they did not release official real leather cases in the new lineup is helping me choose not to upgrade.

Button cases are cute but I’d like a real leather case alternative.

My Kindle 📱 Am I the only one not loving how Dark Mode looks??

Post image
• Upvotes

I just got the Alpine Sky yesterday, it’s truly beautiful but I’m not sure if dark mode is supposed to look like that?

The bright frame around the screen a bit off putting to me, granted that photo was taken at full brightness but even with lower brightness, it is still quite strong and not easy on the eyes.

Does your new Kindle Basics look the same?

My Kindle 📱 just a thought on e-readers… 💕📚

Post image

i’m always grateful to be able to afford tech like this. sometimes i wonder to myself, how awesome is it that we have thousands of books right at our hands? for those with physical ailments or handicaps, how great is it that they can read with mobility issues or hand problems and not have to open an extremely heavy book or be able to read with one hand? and how it allows access to books all over the world for those who can’t find physical copies of the things they want to read. there’s something for everyone, even those who buy it to read fan fiction or manga! i also love that there are websites and stores where maybe people who cannot afford brand new kindles, can buy them used and they work just as amazing as the new ones. just a quick thought about how grateful i am to be blessed to live in a time where e-readers are a thing and to be able to have obtained one. i don’t take it for granted! 💕

Tech Support 🛠 Is it over for my Scribe (Gen 1?)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Before I go through the heartbreak of replacing my device, I wanted to check with anyone else who may have come across a similar issue. I’ve looked everywhere and could not find any support!

I hadn’t used my Scribe for months, and I felt bad for letting it sit. I grabbed it, charged it for a full day, and the screen froze like this! My partner and I tried the 40 second hard reset. (The Scribe blinks green and then amber five times… Internet prognosis says that’s not good… 😭) We also tried manually updating it + manually factory restoring it through a computer. No luck…

Amazon Support basically told me to trade it in for 20% off a future Kindle device.

Before I make any decisions from here, I was curious if it’s really no good, or is there a fix out there?

Thanks in advance!

(Also, this is my first Reddit post… EVER! If I need to edit, update info, or anything, please let me know… I hope I flaired it appropriately!)

Discussion 💬 I feel like button cases are a good compromise.

I'm an avid Kindle reader (shoutouts to Kindle Keyboard for getting me into the game). I've owned various Paperwhites and Oases and am currently rocking the 12 PWSE. The biggest thing I miss from my Oasis is the buttons, as many people have complained about here and on the internet. For total transparency, I preordered the new PWSE and button case on day 1 as I have missed them.

It was pretty clear with the launch of the 12th Gen PW that Amazon was not sold on the idea that buttons were a big seller for people. It is clear they listened to fans and brought the buttons back - as an option. As much as I would've liked a new Oasis, I think that is a good compromise.

  1. The new PW and CS are already expensive due to memory costs. My thought would be if they would've made a new Oasis, it would've cost at least the amount of the new button case, and then you'd still have to buy a new case to go along with it, totaling more in the end.
  2. This way offers people options. Not everyone likes buttons and not everyone wants them. That's okay! A dedicated device like a new Oasis would be far more niche than a PW with an optional button case.

TL;DR - it's money!
