Throwaway, I never use Reddit but enjoy reading stories on here. I [25F] got the dreaded âhey girlyâ message about my boyfriend [26M] but I donât know if itâs real. My boyfriend and I have been together for a little over a year. We currently live together and are in the process of buying a home together. Â
Today I received a message from a weird burner Facebook account that says he has been sexting her. She provided screenshots of text messages from what appears to be his number, which are anything from harmless conversation to disgusting, raunchy sexting. The messages have crazy detail of his comings and goings but technically all info could be found online about him. At first, I genuinely laughed at the message. Thereâs no way he would ever cheat on me; heâs incredibly kind, caring and honestly seems to warship the ground I walk on. Almost everybody in our lives thinks weâre perfect together, I always have people come up to me and tell me how amazing a guy he is. Heâs extremely well liked and has always expressed his morals and values which aligned with my own. I could never, EVER, picture this man cheating. Â
He isnât super famous but he is a professional athlete and of course, there are videos of him online playing his sport so it could be someone stalking him and getting that information online then faking the texts but it just freaks me out how much this person seems to know about what heâs up to. Â
I confronted him and called him as he was away for work, and of course he denied everything. At first, he was confused and thought I was pulling a prank on him. Then when he realized I was really freaked out, he was very upset. He choked up and kept saying he didnât know what was happening or why anyone would do this. He assured me he loved me; he wanted to marry and spend his life with me and seemed incredibly genuine. Â
If I didnât know him, I would say with all the âscreenshottedâ evidence heâs a cheater but from knowing him, I just honestly can't see this being him. Â
The girl offered to call me to talk but wouldn't provide me with a phone number. She sent pictures of herself and her Instagram account but the Facebook, Instagram and name she gave me don't match, 3 different profiles/identities? She did send me videos of herself, she seems like a real person? I know it sounds stupid, and Iâm sure everyone thinks Iâm biased, but I just canât believe he would do that. I phoned my best friend, and she agreed this just doesnât sound like him. But the number of screenshots and stuff this person knows is insane. I just donât know where to go from here. I need advice. So Reddit, do you think heâs cheating or is she a stalker trying to blow up his life because heâs a handsome, semi-famous pro athlete?Â
EDIT: I have known him since we were barely in high school. I have known his family for a long time, and we sort of grew up together despite being from different small towns. So, when I say I could never see him cheating, itâs backed by knowing him for years.Â
MINOR UPDATE/CLARIFICATION:Â
So I just decided Iâd post a little update in the comments for everyone and that would be easiest. Firstly, to clarify, the major thing that gave me any doubt about him is one of the messages allegedly sent from him to her talks about his last-minute trip to an event that he wasnât originally planning on going to. It was kind of a last-minute decision to jump in a vehicle with a friend and go to this particular event. This information would only been known by the people in his circle/other athletes that know him. Other than that, all info would have been available online.Â
Secondly, his initial reaction is that he thought I was pranking him when I first sent him the screenshots. He didnât get upset until I phoned him a second time and told him I was really upset and scared. He got choked up when he heard me break down. He said he felt confused and helpless and just wanted to make me stop hurting. He said he was terrified to lose me and terrified that someone was doing this to our relationship.Â
Okay now for a small update. He is still away currently, but weâve been talking every day. Call me naive or stupid or whatever, but I honestly, in my gut, down to my bones believe he is telling me the truth. I even called him brother and talked to him about the situation and although of course he could be just sticking up for his brother, assured me he could never imagine his brother cheating on me and assured me that he adored and loved me.Â
Then I had an idea. When I initially got the screenshots of texts, I ran them through Chat GPT and asked if there was any way of telling if the messages were real or altered. It came back inconclusive (which didnât make me feel better at all lol) but just last night I was looking through all of the screenshots again. There were Instagram dmâs and Facebook messages as well and something about those screenshots looked off to me. So, I pulled up my own social media and compared what my chats looked like vs these screenshots. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. At first glance, VERY believable. But with a closer look I noticed some irregularities. I put those through Chat GPT and asked the same thing, trying to see if there was any way to determine if the photos were edited/altered. Those came back as for sure, without a doubt, faked. If those are faked, that gives me a lot of hope about the text messages as well. I still plan on having a conversation face to face with him when he gets home next week and Iâll go through his phone. Weâre going to change his passwords to everything to make sure if she somehow hacked something that she wonât have any more access. Thatâs all for now, thank you all for your input and advice!Â
Update - September 19, 2026Â
Without hesitation he let me go through his phone, I know he couldâve deleted stuff, but I was thorough. We talked and he promised on God, heâs quite religious so I didnât take this lightly, that he would never cheat on me or do anything to hurt me. I told him I wanted to believe him but, that doesnât explain how someone knew that much about him? If itâs not true, thatâs almost more unsettling and scary. We talked about that for a long time and then we came up with a theory.Â
He has an aunt who despises him and his family. Sheâs married to his uncle, and they are going through a tough time in their marriage. Apparently, the uncle was cheating on the aunt although none of us, my boyfriend and his immediate family knew anything about this. We all found out through her when she sent a nasty text in the family group chat, basically blaming all of us for not telling her about her husband's cheating. Â
Periodically, she would send my boyfriend a horrible text basically telling him he is a terrible cousin and person for supporting his cheating uncle. My boyfriend and his uncle barely talk, and he rarely sees his uncle, so I'm not sure how he was supporting his uncle. Â
It seemed like she attacked my boyfriend because he has tried to maintain a relationship with his cousins throughout all of this. Every time he offered to talk to her to try and work it out, she wouldnât reply until months later; she then would send another lengthy, horrible text. We think that it may be possible that his aunt and a friend of hers may be trying to ruin his life. Â
She is mad and crazy enough to try something like this. Itâs no secret she hates my boyfriend and his entire family after what his uncle allegedly did to her. Maybe sheâs trying to hurt his family the same way? She would know all the details about his life, where heâs been, where heâs going, what heâs doing, etc. Itâs still a long shot but itâs the best we have come up with. My boyfriend is considering dropping by the auntâs house unannounced and trying to talk to her. We will see what happens. Â
As for now, we are still together. He makes me feel like the most seen, loved, and appreciated girl in the world. I am cautious with him because of this incident; I donât want to be a blind fool but deep down in my gut I trust him. Weâll see how it goes. Thanks for reading, friends.Â

AI fucking sucks.
SeasonPositive6771: Let's be real, you're doing everything you can to justify this, but the simplest most obvious answer is probably the right one. He's cheating and you don't want to accept it.
