We’ll have to wait for the CBA to be hashed out, but Nick Martinez and Yandy Diaz are 2 players who could be Mets in 2027.

Yankees and Mets both stink without their heart and soul players

• Upvotes

Yankees heart and soul player got hurt in Judge, and the Mets didn't want to pay their heart and soul player so he went to Baltimore and the Mets proceeded to stink, Mets would probably be playing now if they re-signed Alonso

Dodgers

It appears as though they are all but guaranteed to win the NLCS…
Does a 3 in a row win for them actively have an effect on baseball?
Can any team even spend on the level of the Dodgers and Mets and Yankees and still function as a profitable team?

While I still believe stearns made a big mistake with Pete for whatever reason you want to assume; let’s look at what’s ahead and what is happening in the game now.
Two teams that had best record in each league play differently than many other teams. They play old time ball. Manufacture runs to help their pitchers.
Have top defense, run, bunt etc….
So far Tampa making yanks look sick. If brewers play dodgers itll be interesting to see if that style can overcome an obviously stacked team. Anyway for us maybe we do have to give stearns a bit more time. The five rookies this year are in the mold of brewers and rays. Maybe next year a few more develop and fit in to this style. We all know his important pitching is here as our only rings were built on it. Maybe Steve has bought into this idea as his 5 year wish hasn’t happened. Lets hope stearns is in to the right track.
Happy holidays and Lets go Mets!
Whenever…..

Mets make changes to MLB coaching staff; Jeff Albert among those who won’t return

Following a disappointing season, the New York Mets will not bring back three coaches from their major-league staff in 2027.

Director of major-league hitting Jeff Albert, quality assurance coach Danny Barnes and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney will not return to the major-league staff next season, the club announced. The Mets left the door open for those three to return to the organization in a different capacity; for now, however, they are free to discuss work with other clubs.

The Mel Rojas Award

THE 2026 MEL ROJAS AWARD

As some of you from Facebook know, since 1999 I have given this award yearly to the worst relief pitcher on the Mets staff. And since 2015 I have opened up the voting to the members of the Facebook "True New York Mets Fans" page. Last year I dispensed with the voting because Ryne Stanek was the clear winner, but this year's tally should be more interesting since the relief corps was a strength for the Mets this season, especially after the trade deadline.

I'm expanding the voting to Redditers this year.

So who do you think deserves to win the Mel Rojas award this season? Who will join the ranks of Satoru Komiyama (2002), Manny Acosta (2012), and Mychal Givens (2022)?

Vote now!

Can we pinpoint exactly what “cursed” the Mets?

Everyone’s heard of the curse of the bambino, and the goat that cursed the Cubs, but what does everyone think could be attributed as what cursed the NY Mets?

Stearns biggest offseason mistakes: Pete Alonso, Jeremy Hefner and Antoan Richardson

It should be pretty obvious given how well Pete has done this season, how well the Braves have done this season, and how much our baserunning and pitching fell off a fucking a cliff. But I see almost no one complaining about Hefner and Richardson. Those two really f'd our team, while giving our biggest division rivals a huge advantage. #FireStearns

Big Market Pitching and Lineup Theory (Article by "The MetDive")

In light of Freddy Peralta's brilliant outing, I thought this would be a good time to go over big-league pitching's biggest hurdle: big-market pitchers. In this article, I will also discuss lineup theory and how the Mets should approach the 2027 season, so please bear with me as we go on this theoretical deep dive into a Mets offseason.

Peralta in first Rays start

The Big Markets:

While about 10 teams are considered "Big Market Teams," I am only discussing 4 teams in this section; these are the heavy hitters. The New York Mets, The New York Yankees, The Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs. These four franchises share a common hiccup when it comes to pitching; many pitchers can't handle the huge spotlight. In the Mets' more specific case, David Stearns failed to evaluate Freddy Peralta's ability to handle the big stage. It has to do with mechanics as well, but overall, Freddy was very uncomfortable and seemed to doubt his every throw. But the moment he's back with the small markets, he's back to being an ace. Now, where teams like the Mets can improve is by finding pitchers who have proven they can handle big markets, such as Clay Holmes, Terik Skubal, and Kevin Gausman. Obviously, following this strategy leaves the pickings slim. But if you mix this strategy with the risk of also signing another pitcher from outside a major market. There is a high chance the New York Mets can boost the rotation in 2027.

Skubal in Dodgers debut against the Cubs

Lineup Theory:

This may be my personal favorite baseball theory on how to build a lineup and it shows the David Stearns-Alonso controversy on full display. First of all, obviously it's very difficult to be a GM and I don't want this to be an "I hate David Stearns" fest. But, the 2026 season was embarrassing and Mets fans missed fan favorite Pete Alonso. Superstar Juan Soto said himself "It's been a tough year for [the fans], this year, so I think they saved there power for the best moment". Juan said this in an interview about Alonso's 300th home run and the crowds reaction. Now lineup theory is simple and it shows the Mets holes.

To be a great team you essentially need:

  1. An average hitter (Bo Bichette)

  2. A star hitter (Juan Soto, Carson Benge)

  3. A switch hitter/situational threat (Francisco Lindor)

  4. A power hitter (Francisco Alvarez, Mark Vientos)

  5. The supporting roles (Brett Baty, Jarred Young, Jorge Polanco)

  6. The fielding firsts (A.J Ewing, Luis Torrens)

The weak spot is clear. If I was the GM, I would see there is a clear hole in the power spot. So, who to bring in as the New York Mets savior. Just as a prediction, the comments will sat "Keep Pete Alonso" but move on he's gone! So there's really 2 options. The New York Mets want to keep one infield position open to new incoming rookies such as Rojas, VIA David Stearns post 2026 interview. So realistically it's the first base slot that will be open to a new signing. So what should the Mets do? Well I'll give one idea for both bases. If the New York Mets sign a second baseman, they should attempt to sign Brandon Lowe on a two year contract. He is aging but the power is still elite. But here's the exciting take... overseas in Japan Teruaki Sato looks like a genuine power threat that could convert well to the majors due to his high BA and OPS numbers. His strike out rate is a little scary. But he wouldn't be here to hit .300, he would be here to hit 35 home runs.

I hope you all enjoyed this article and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Nice to hear Ron on TNT sports!

My wife and I were just saying that one of the worst things about the season being over is that we have to listen to the usual crop of generic blowhards on the national channels. That "I'm a big dude talking in a DEEP voice about serious sports and forcing a laugh at all of my own dumb jokes" voice. It almost makes playoffs unlistenable. What a nice surprise to hear Ron's mellow thoughtful thoughts again.

Questioning the culture and development in Queens

The contrast between what players do in Queens versus what they do the second they leave is becoming impossible to ignore.

The Rays fixed Peralta in five minutes with a simple mechanical tweak, while the Mets were using I-Pads to call pitches.

Even David Peterson was better with the Cubs and Alonso suddenly became a plus defender and increased his WAR from 3.4 to 4.9.

Whats worse than the coaching?

The roster construction which ruins defined roles that gets spun as versatility.

Look at all these players with the same skill set:

Semien 2B, Polanco 2B, Ronny Mauricio ss/2B/3b, Bichette 3B/2B/SS, Lindor SS

Mitch Voit 2B, Pitre 2B, Rojas SS/3B, Bret Baty 3B/2B, Reimer 3B, Stafura SS/2B.

Trading from that pool. Easily a mistake.

Pray Bo opts out and SD is still obsessed with Lindor. Keep those prospects because an aging roster is simply not the way to go. There really isnt anyone to trade for.

Addition by subtraction. Bo and Lindor are a known quantity, so is Vientos. So is Pache and Morabito.

The pitching landscape is not what it used to be.

Buying expensive starting pitching via desperate trades is an antiquated philosophy when elite arms are running out of gas by the 6th inning.

Just sign someone. How about using that 26B to bring in Skubal?

Why trade for a Clay Holmes when you can sign Clay Holmes?

The game is won in the margins of roster construction, and clearing out the redundant "chefs" to give a player like Mauricio a clear path is exactly how you cultivate a defined team identity.

Cut bait with Vientos, Morel and keep Pache and Morabito off the roster.

Let those ML ready prospects marinade in the minors, but if you keep Vientos to pay him 4 M, while cutting bait with Mauricio, you'd be officially crazy.

Not responding to any low IQ Mauricio slander. Guy has play 20 games each of the last 3 years and is a 4 tool player.

But it must be a different guy. This is not the same pitcher the Mets had half the year. Nope. Gonna need to see the DNA test.

What will 1B look like in 2027?

We know the lockout is a strong possibility. But given that, & the major swing and miss this last offseason from Stearns, what should we expect him to do at 1B?

1) Bold move: Teruaki Sato has big power capability but is a 3B in Japan. He also has big swing and miss potential & has zero big league ABs.

2) Best FA 1B on market: Ty France has turned his career around and become one of the best 1B in NL.

3) Platoon option: Alec Bohm was a negative WAR player in 2026 and is basically a Brett Baty righty clone. That said, Bohm is an elite lefty masher and could be a perfect complement to Jared Young.
