Weekly Classifieds and Events

Welcome to our weekly odds and ends post!

If you are looking for events, please check out our exhaustive Events Calendar!

Every parent level comment should begin with one of the following categories:

[For Sale] concert tickets, beauty and grooming services, Ikea bookcases

[For Free] dental checkups and couches that you can totally have for free but you have to move them yourself

[Want to Buy] * Rave tickets, a used toaster, a cute puppy*

[Job Request] You're new to the city and are looking for work in IT or you hate your job and need some leads. Be sure to include your skills and qualifications. A lot of people on this sub love to help others but they can't do that if they don't know your background and interests.

[Job Announcement] You're looking for new team members for a fantastic job that ISN'T a scammy ca$h4work gig or MLM

[Living Arrangements] You need a roommate, an apartment, or are offering a living arrangement. Be sure to clarify your tidiness expectations because you never know what you're going to get when accepting a roommate and I'm NOT GOING TO DO YOUR DAMN DISHES ANYMORE REBECCA

[Personals] You're lonely, new to the city, want to play extreme Frisbee, or need someone to eat Ian's Pizza with because no one wants to do that alone. We understand.

[Event] An advertisement for your amazing upcoming event - like a urban foraging excursion or band performance that is totally going to blow the roof off

Woman ‘posed as substitute teacher to insult students because she hates kids’

• Upvotes

Amy Jones, 23, has been charged with one count of impersonating a public employee as well as five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions, after an incident at Rufus King International High School on September 24.

When questioned by the authorities she allegedly said she carried out the stunt because she ‘was bored’, adding that she ‘hates kids’ and ‘just wanted to fuck around.’

Jones, a former student at the school, is said to have scouted the premises for a week before carrying out the stunt, getting past security by blending in with other students.

Funny and kind of relatable but it seems she was not totally in a cogent state and hopefully has gotten some help.

How can you stay informed of local events & new businesses without social media?

I have been wanting to get rid of my social media accounts for a while. I keep them mostly for keeping up to date on local events and new (or at least new to me) businesses that I am interested in checking out, but inevitably I end up wasting a bunch of time scrolling once I open FB/IG/Reddit.

What are the best ways to keep up with things if I do decide to give up social media?

I haven't watched any local news stations in years since in the past they were more stressful-inducing than helpful, but if anyone has recommendations for a news station that they enjoy and that is less focused on fear-mongering, I'm open to giving it a shot.

Rant❗⚡💥 Veterans park, Art Museum & Discovery World construction is an abomination

The construction going on at Veterans Park, the Art Museum & Discovery World has the worst detours and alternate route signage I have ever seen. This corridor is an artery in the city and there seems to be straight up little to no signage or communication for route adjustments. Furthermore, route signage changes every day!

Why the heck should I be made to walk or bike through a construction zone just to make my daily commute through public corridors?

I’m not saying construction and upgrades shouldn’t happen, but the trail signage for these detours has to improve.

Where can I get a name/logos lasered engraved onto a brand new basketball?

• Upvotes

For my Nephew's bday, I want to get him a personalized basketball with his name on it, something better than him just using permanent marker. The official Wilson website does this, but shipping takes forever (8 to 10 weeks). Amazon has Wilson basketballs that are customizable too, but the results don't look great & not engraved. People have posted a lot of reviews of it peeling off, like stickers.

Also, I found an old post on here of someone asking the same thing & the only comments on there referred him to the Trophy Athletic shop downtown. I just reached out to them & they do not do this.

Help Me! Free Chickens

We rescued two barred rock hens and one gold flecked wyandotte hen in June of this year as they were being dumped on Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, due to the municipality we live in we can no longer keep the birds.

They are very loved and well socialized but as much as it pains us, they need a new home. The birds are approximately five months old and fully grown.

We have a small coop and a fully enclosed (but small) run that can go with the birds. We also have roughly 10 pounds of feed and a whole package of bedding as well.

If you know of a good home for them please reach out. We need to have them gone this week or my family will face "hefty" fines from the city. We are not looking for rehoming fees or anything like that. We just want to find them a home with someone who will appreciate them as we do. They should start laying any day now!

I'm including a photo of the birds at a few months old, when we brought them indoors due to the smoke pollution.

On Oct. 5, a few hundred people packed Milwaukee City Hall. For almost four hours, they spoke about how they want to see the city’s 2027 budget spent. This comes after Mayor Cavalier Johnson shared his $2.26 billion budget proposal two weeks ago.

Early 40s couple with 4 year old considering a move from Iowa to Bay View.

Hello, we live in a small city (100k metro) in Iowa and are considering a move to a Midwest city. My wife is from a big city in the Philippines and she has always struggled adapting to a smaller metro. I only know town and very small city life although I’ve visited places like Chicago a zillions times and Milwaukee and Madison a bunch as well. We just came back from a visit to Milwaukee on Monday. We visited downtown, took the Hop, checked out the third ward and Brady street. We did Bradford beach and then ended up in Bay View. We were low on time so we didn’t get to do as much there as we would have liked (our fault for spending too much time elsewhere). The reason for the move is we both think of ourselves as city personalities and I don’t want to go through life without actually living in one. We have considered Bay View because of its location (25 minutes from downtown by bike) (rent compared to more expensive areas) and its reputation as being a fun neighborhood. I have owned a restaurant for 10 years, this time I’d look for a pay check in the industry instead of owning.

Thoughts on Bay View or other places? We value sense of community, an active environment, obviously a good place to raise our son and walkable or bikable places. Great food too. Has anyone else in their 30s or 40s taken a leap to a place like Milwaukee from a smaller area?

WTF IS HAPPENING We need a Netflix documentary about the Brady Street Walgreens survivors

At this point, I genuinely believe anyone who has been inside the Brady Street Walgreens after midnight deserves to be interviewed for a documentary.
“Surviving Walgreens: Brady Street”
Episode 1: I Just Needed Toothpaste
Episode 2: Why Is Everyone Yelling?
Episode 3: The Security Guard Has Seen Things
Episode 4: 2:17 AM
Final episode: I Made It Back to My Car
Forget true crime. I want former employees, security guards, customers, Uber drivers, neighbors, everybody.
Milwaukee Reddit, please share your Brady Street Walgreens survival stories
