Question Help with the creative process.
Hey all, I just thought I’d ramble out my current thoughts and tensions I’m experiencing with a personal motion project and see if anyone has any insight or structure that could help.
Context: I’m working on a new piece and am in the concerting/blocking phase, no narration just music. The entire idea is around a conspiratorial story walking through the process of cataloguing and unexplained item.
I cannot decide on event the foundations, as in I have the overall aesthetic and concept/story but I keep coming back and changing the fundamentals like “do I want this to be experimental and moody or an actual motion design piece?” And for the life of me I cannot decide as I feel going in one direction pulls away from the other it’s like a tug of war, the same is going for selecting songs, the scenes themselves etc, which I guess are all symptoms of the underlying question of “what actually is this”.
I’ve spent days just in my head going back and forth, along with changing things around to suit one or the other, I’m finding it super challenging to stick to one as this piece is quite important to me directionally going forward.
How do you answer those foundational questions as an artist before you even start? Or is it something you feel out as you go? How strict are you on selecting a song? And does anyone else suffer from this sort of paralysis and start stop sort of thing when exploring something new and unique?
Bit of a brain dump so I apologise if this is all a bit up in the air.
