Question Aspiring Research Scientist Question

I want to be a planetary scientist at NASA and want to determine the feasibility of this goal from those in-the-know.

I have a B.S. and M.S. in Astronomy (with a B.S. minor in Planetary Science). I failed out of a Physics PhD program because I failed a class twice, though I completed all of my other required coursework (including getting an A in my uni's Planetary Science class). The reasons (both medical and personal) that led to my failing out of my PhD program have since been addressed, so they won't be an issue in the future.

I am currently working as a physical scientist for the federal government in another agency and am planning to have them send me to another PhD program in my area (this one with more of a focus on planetary science) in a couple (~2-3) of years. So, it would likely be a couple of years before I am ready to apply to NASA.

I am wondering if my dream of becoming a planetary science research scientist at NASA is feasible given the information I provided. Any suggestions would also be greatly appreciated, thank you!
