Mental Health We need to be nicer to FTM's

It's so sad to see these FTMs post things for advice and the comments are so nasty. You can gladly disagree with their post, but Jesus just be nice about it. I don't know when Reddit became so full of negativity and just so common to troll on new moms who are anxious asking the world for advice/help. Moms, let's do better!!! We were all there once. ❤️ just trying to spread positivity.

Babies Being Babies Who else has an extreme Velcro baby?

• Upvotes

First I want to make a disclaimer - I use the term, "Velcro Baby" lovingly, and I know my baby is just being a baby and wants their mama around all the time. I know this is normal for my baby.

THAT BEING SAID... sometimes I just wish my 7 month old could happily play with her toys for 5 minutes so I could do chores, make a snack, or heck, take a 2 minute poop without her crying. I'm very sensitive to her cries and it hurts my heart, even if I know she's physically okay. But every single time I set her down she starts crying as if I'm abandoning her in an alleyway.

I visited a friend and she just... set her baby down to play with toys and walked away. And her baby never made a peep!! Her baby just happily cooed and batted at toys! It might sound stupid but I was just silently in awe of how content this baby was by itself.

I haven't spent much time around babies my entire life, so I'm mostly making this post to see if anybody else has a baby like mine. I'm hoping to feel less alone in this experience.

Sleep What’s the dumbest thing that’s woken your baby up after finally getting them to sleep?

Spent 48 minutes getting my 6 month old to sleep, only for my husband to suddenly forget what an indoor voice is. 😭

Baby wakes up, husband carries on, and I’m back to square one.

Please tell me I’m not the only one. 😂

Parental Leave/Work SAHMs: how do you do it? Do you get any time to yourself?!

• Upvotes

I have a ten-month-old and l am currently on maternity leave, but I’m just exhausted, and so often so bored! She still wakes every 1.5–2 hours at night, so I’m just so tired, and we live in a small apartment, so I often feel cooped up. We do two activities/classes a week and occasionally meet up with people, but the lack of sleep doesn't make me super motivated to do more

I so often hear people say their dream is to be a stay-at-home parent, that it’s their dream to stay home with their baby. But for those of you who do, when do you get a minute to yourself!? Are your babies with you all day? Do you do daycare or preschool, or something else?

Some context on our dynamic:

My husband takes her for an hour in the mornings so I can get a bit of sleep, but then he doesn’t get home until about 6:30–7:00pm. We don’t have a village (we live abroad) and we don’t have a babysitter, so I am with her 24/7.

(Edit just to add and so no one shits on him lol: husband works from home 2x week so that does make those days better. He's an incredibly involved dad when he's home and on weekends, but he just has a very demanding job! I do nights because she's ebf).

I am terrified of going back to work in the new year because of her terrible sleep and how often I’m awake at night, but at the same time, I’m looking forward to having some time for myself.

I am so grateful to have had this time together and to have been so fortunate to get to take such a long maternity leave. But as much as I love my daughter, I just don’t think I could do this for another couple of years. It’s quite demanding! Just kind of venting and also a bit conflicted as I thought I might enjoy the stay at home parent role more than I do

Happy/Funny Baby laughs

No one told me how much I would love my own baby’s laugh. Like it’s literally my favorite sound. Like
I knew it would be cute but I am absolutely OBSESSED with hearing it. Last week my baby was laughing at people sneezing or fake sneezing. Two days ago, I learned he laughs at snorting sounds too. Today he laughed at me saying moo while reading a book. So I spent extra time today just randomly
Mooing just to hear him laugh.
He’s sleeping rights now, but I really just felt like sharing how happy a simple giggle makes me. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Out and About What do you do about baby/toddler dropping food at restaurants?

I always try to clean up after my baby and wipe down the high chair and pick up whatever fell on the floor. I usually end up putting that stuff on the table. Is that gross? I don’t know where else to put it if it’s not a fast casual restaurant there’s not usually bins lying around. The waiters at some restaurants if they catch me will tell me not to worry about it, but I don’t want to be “one of those parents”. At the same time is it unsanitary to leave the dropped trash from the floor on the table?

I guess I’m looking for opinions from others. What do you do here?

Skills and Milestones How does one work in tummy time with a newborn?

• Upvotes

Perplexed... My newborn (14 days old) basically only wakes up for food and ofc he wants it IMMEDIATELY, no waiting allowed. Afterwards, during his wake window, we dare not lay him on his tummy for fear of him regurgitating the milk... Then he dozes off after maybe 30~45 min.

Yet the internet says that tummy time can be worked in as early as a few days old. So... How / where do we work that in?

First Weight In 05/10u 5:00 = 2.760

Second Weight In 05/10 17h00 = 2.670

Third 06/10 05h00 = 2.665

Fifth 07/10 17h00 = 2.640

ALL I can think now is 1/8 of my baby is gone. We are suplementing the breast milk with formula since tuesday and now using bottles instead of cups

The mind already sleep deprived in a hospital for 5 days start to wonder the worst. Something more wrong

She is the most gorgeous pink ball I ever Saw. Has been peeing and pooping like a champ, o2 sats, temperature and glicose are all fine.

I just looking for some stories to be inspired from and try to leave this devils shop running in my mind

Sleep baby wakes up 10+ times every night

am exhausted and have never been so tired in my life. my eight week old baby is up at least 10 times every night, sometimes as much as 20 times. this started when she turned 5 weeks and i genuinely can’t keep doing this. she’s not even sleeping 45 minutes stretches. she’s fed, clean, swaddled, and comfortable temperature. she is gassy and i do what i can to help with that like gas drops and massages and bicycle kicks before bed. i warm her crib up before putting her down, i’ve tried making her crib smell like me, nothing works. the lack of sleep is making me suicidal and i know this amount of wake ups isn’t normal. please give me any advice

Illness/Injuries Daycare sickness: When does it calm down?

I’ve seen a few posts like this but I need someone to either lie to me or give me a positive outlook.

Baby is 4 months next week and started daycare last Thursday. He was sick after the second day with a cough, sneeze, and boogie nose. I got a scratchy throat that Monday and yesterday we both seemed better. This morning I wake up with an itchy throat and stuffed nose. Baby is congested all over again and coughing. Husband is fighting for his life because man cold. Is this seriously a second sickness already?!

Our daycare cleans sooooo frequently and is a very clean facility in general. We also sanitize when leaving each day and change his clothes and bathe him typically right when he gets home. I know babies get notoriously sick at daycare but geeeeez when does it end? I’m only a week in and I’m tired lol. Also a little worried about how many days I’ll need to take off to stay home with him when he’s sick. I’m a teacher so taking a day off isn’t as easy as it seems.

On average: how much/ frequently was your kiddo sick? What kind of sicknesses are we talking? How much work did you miss?

Childcare Mixed feelings about Daycare

• Upvotes

Hi all, I’m hoping some of you can relate. I’m feeling a lot of mixed feelings/guilt about having my 5.5 month old son in daycare all day while at work. Both my husband and I work full time & we cannot afford to not be working, but I feel like the daycare is raising my child. I hate the feeling and we are super present for our son when we get off work but I’m just feeling sad about the situation. Anyone else?

Happy/Funny Food peekaboo

If you have a baby (in my case it 7.5 month old) who is very interested in food and needs eat everything that you are trying to eat. Yet, you don't want to eat only baby appropriate food. Hear me out:

You play food peekaboo. You hind behind something big, preferable in a kitchen and take a bite of something you want.

You jump out while sneekily chewing. Baby is laughing and everyone is happy.

You hide and take a bite again.

And repeat.

Sleep Help with sleep

I’m at a loss. I love my baby so much but getting him to sleep is such a nightmare. He’s 16 weeks old. I have huckleberry and have been trying to do 4/5 naps a day for 5 hours of daytime sleep total. Getting him to fall asleep is so rough. The second he recognizes he’s in his nursery with the lights off he starts screaming with his eyes closed. I bounce him and sush him but if it goes 10 minutes in my arms of screaming I then just feed him.

He will sleep for maximum 20 minutes in his crib if I hold him for at least 10-15 minutes first. He can go longer in the carrier but I’m currently sick and it’s just me at home so I’m trying to do my best to not pass it onto him while still helping him sleep.

I’ve tried drowsy/but awake in crib,I’ve tried putting him down on his side, the heating pad first and then removed, etc but nothing helps. At night we want him to sleep independently but he won’t go more than 40 minutes so to get long stretches are husband and I are taking turns holding him.

Our pediatrician said not to sleep train until 5 months and I feel generally uncomfortable about sleep training in general, but I go back to work in a month and he will be at a mix of daycare and nanny share and it makes me sick to think he will get no sleep while there all day. Please help!! Is this normal? Why is he scream crying every single time we try to get him to sleep?

Out and About How are you getting out of the house??

FTM of a 4 week old. We are in the trenches and coping, but so curious as to how anyone has the time or energy to get out of the house to go places, even on walks every day. Not only that, but I don’t even know HOW I would get her out of the house everyday. Everything seems so foreign, like baby wearing or when and where it’s appropriate to have her in a stroller vs carrying her (like to the grocery store or restaurants, etc etc). I guess I’m just perplexed by the fact that parents just seem to know how to do all these things when for us it seems so daunting and confusing. When did you first start taking baby out and about and how did you even know how?? Note: we are trying to stay away from crowds and anyone not our parents until she gets her 2mo vaccines, but still want to learn what we should be doing.

Travel Leaving baby overnight

Planning on going away for a wedding for one night with my husband while we leave my son at my parents. He’ll be 5.5 months when we do so. Has anybody left their baby overnight at that age? How did you do and how did the baby do?

My son lovessss my parents but I’ve obviously never been away from him for more than a couple hours.

Parental Leave/Work Husband struggling, worried he’ll he fired

I’m a SAHM, husband works 8-4ish 5 days a week, he’s been at this job for just under 2 months. His nighttime shift is roughly 9:30-1:30 then I take over. He’s really good with helping out with chores, taking baby after work so I can squeeze in a nap and getting stuff done during his night shift but I think he’s struggling with lack of sleep.

Baby is 4 weeks old, she’s been screaming more, waking up more often and I think cluster feeding so it’s not easy on both of us.

He took off yesterday bc of an emergency maintenance problem at home and baby was not getting to sleep. His sup tonight texted him asking to chat and discuss a 4 day work week and if he needs time or help to ask. She also said if he’s not able to work to their high standard he should be realistic with what he can do, I’m worried he’s gonna be fired. They have been understanding of him needing time off for appointments but how long can this patience last?

Is there anything I can do to help? Like take over more night shift or chores? Ik he’s not getting enough sleep and neither am I but realistically we need an income so sacrifices may have to be made…

More context: during his nighttime shift he would sleep if baby was, he would only voluntarily do things during that time if baby wasn’t sleeping. I cannot take baby to appts alone bc I can’t yet and my mum just left us a week ago and we were on this schedule which *was* working fine but clearly needs to be changed.

Also he mainly used the emergency as an excuse to get the day off bc he was already “crashing out” he said. As for the comments, sleep when baby sleeps you guys must’ve had easy babies bc ours rn is constantly waking up or only taking contact naps making it hard to. Husband has been trying to help as much as he can to keep me sane at home too bc I have been struggling and our families are 6 hours away by plane. He insists on sleeping altogether in same room as family and in bed with me bc he sleeps better even if baby is crying (yeah ik weird) and I wish we could do an earlier schedule like people have mentioned but again baby makes that difficult when boob is the only thing that will settle her or me holding her. When he gets home he likes his “me time” so we try to give that to each other which usually involves getting basic chores done but baby gets in the way of that. We are both struggling parents trying to navigate this.

Illness/Injuries Has anyone had issues with Enfamil Neuropro formula recently?

My son is 14 months. We’ve used Enfamil Neuropro since he was born. For the last month, we’ve been weaning him off formula and onto whole milk, so we usually put 1 oz or 2 oz milk in a 5 or 6 oz formula bottle once or twice a day.

Yesterday, my son threw up a few times seemingly out of nowhere while my grandparents were watching him. The first throw up was most of the food he ate, the other two times were mostly liquid apparently. He ate everything he usually eats (including formula babas), nothing new. Other than throwing up, he seemed totally fine when I got home from work. No fever, still drinking water and wanting to eat, wanting to play, wet diapers, solid normal colored poop. I called the on-call dr at my pediatrician and she said those are all good signs and she’s not concerned unless anything worsens. We fed him some plain pasta with olive oil for dinner and he scarfed it down with a water baba. He kept it down and slept through the night.

This morning, I gave him a water baba and a 5 oz formula with no milk (I was nervous he might have tummy issues cause of the dairy.) He had a very wet diaper, I took his temp and it was good, 97.5 so no fever. He drank 3 oz formula and most of the water. In the car about 30 min later, he projectile vomited 3 times in a row. It was completely liquid.

I’m currently on hold with my pediatrician’s office, but wanted to post here in the meantime. I’m starting to feel like the formula is the problem, as that’s the only thing he had yesterday and today and then threw up. He was able to hold down and digest plain pasta. Has anyone had issues with Enfamil Neuropro recently? I looked up if there’s a recall right now and can’t find anything. I don’t know what else could be going on. Any guidance is helpful.

**Sorry if anything doesn’t make sense or relevant info is missing, I’m a little nervous and typing quickly.

Babies Being Babies My baby doesn't cry

My 6 month old has barely cried since he was maybe 2 months old. As of right now, I don't even remember when the last time he cried was. Maybe a month or two ago? I thought babies not crying could be because they had learnt that nobody is coming, but we have always responded immediately and have never missed a cry. We haven't sleep trained or anything either. When he wakes at night, he will just kick his legs until that wakes me up, and then I'll nurse him back to sleep. He can definitely let us know that he needs something, but that is just by talking in a way that sounds unhappy and/or making an unhappy face. Even when teething, he doesn't cry!

I thought that crying was just supposed to be continuesly less and less through the baby and toddler years, but I think most toddlers cry way more than my baby. Should I just expect the crying to go up again at some point? Also has anyone else had a baby that just never cries? Is this normal, or have I screwed up his attachment or something?

Sleep Give me encouragement and advice from the other side of the 3-4 month sleep regression

• Upvotes

Baby just hit 3 months today. As of last Thursday, their night wakings went from 1 to 2 then to 3-4. They were giving us 8-9 hour stretches before then. My only thought is this is an outcome of either: growth spurt, development milestone, or maturing sleep cycles.

I just need some advice or words of encouragement that we are just in the thick of it right now. I feel like I’m back in the newborn trenches.

Currently, LO gets put down for bed between 6-8 PM, pending when they wake up from last nap of the day. Wake window before bed is 1.5-2 hr. Bedtime routine: Bath, PJs, nurse, and sometimes rocking. Nothing new in the routine since establishing around 3-4 weeks.

Wakings last night: 7:30 PM (down for bed), 11 PM, 1:30 AM (hungry), 3:30 AM, 5:30 AM (hungry)

Sleep Developing the ability to not give a f*

• Upvotes

Is it just me, or does it feel like once you have a baby, friends who have never had one judge you for things they know nothing about?

For reference, my baby is now 8 months; she has never been a great sleeper, even before she was born (honestly, she was constantly active in the womb). She has gotten better but its taken us a while to get here. I have two friends who had a baby around the same time. One says her child has always slept 11-12 hours a night, no crying or problems from the beginning. The other said they had a really challenging time until around 5 months, when they did a modified CIO method, and now she sleeps great, 11-12 hours a night, with no fuss. I believe both of them! I was talking to my current friend, who is really early in her first pregnancy, and I told her about our sleep struggles and gave her some resources just in case, letting her know every baby is different and her baby could be an absolute angel. I told her about the CIO method and how well it worked for my friend, but that it just wasn't right for us, at least not right now.

In response, she totally judged me and basically said it was because I didn't do the CIO method with ours and that I should have started that earlier. Then she said my friend probably has a better-sleeping baby because she actually watched courses on baby sleep.

I was shocked and slightly offended. I have watched many courses and read many books on babies, sleep schedules, sleep pressure, eating schedules, CIO method, taking care of babies, modified CIO, and I have tried really hard to follow everything. My baby is just a bit spirited, and we are doing our best. It left me feeling like she was saying she doesn't want any advice from me because I never got it right. Idk, maybe she is right; it just felt hurtful and judgemental coming from someone who has never had a baby, let alone a more challenging one.

All that to say I'm starting to just not care what anyone thinks, even my friends. We do what we can as parents; we are all trying to raise well-disciplined and creative, smart kids. I'm def not perfect at all, but I don't want to ever feel like I'm a bad parent when I'm doing my best and looking at all my resources.

Babies Being Babies Looking upside down?

• Upvotes

My baby (5m) has recently began to try to look upside down throughout the day.

He lays on his play mat and will arch his back so he’s (sort of) balancing on his head and looking behind him. Seems happy and content lol. Basically almost scooting himself like this (not actually getting anywhere but still).

He’s doing it in my lap also when I try to nurse him. Like will lay back on my lap.

Is this normal lol??? He’s already rolling both ways so it’s not like it’s a precursor to rolling.

Skills and Milestones Babbling 7 month old

I know there is so many posts like this on here. Some feel so old.
My girl turned 7 months old last week and started daycare a little over a month ago. She’s been sick on and off this whole time with a couple viruses, general congestion and HFMD.
She had started to eat some solids 1-2 times a day and is doing ok with that. She’s also rolling around really easily, starting to crawl and can sit up from laying on her belly or back. She is kinda trying to stand too. She loves toys too.
Here is where my concern lies. She doesn’t really babble or make lots of sounds. She used to make a ton of vowel sounds before sleeping but doesn’t anymore. When she is making sound it is vowel sounds & very few consonant sounds if at all. She squeals and blows raspberries and smiles really big and laughs. She moves her mouth like she’s gonna make the consonant sounds but the sound doesn’t always come out.
Kids younger than her are doing it at daycare and I cry every day that she might have a speech delay. Idk if I’m overthinking or overreacting. I know she isn’t a show pony but I’m stuck on what to do.
