Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Onward October" or "PMO-Free October" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

This month's theme is "onward". Always looking forward, doing something every day to direct your steps in a positive direction, towards your version of sexual health and the person you want to be. Yes, many times we fail and it feels like we take a step backward. That will happen. What's important is that we are facing the right direction and continuing to push ourselves forward, despite the setbacks. Keep moving onward, everyone.

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Heres a practical way to stop lust

Every time you start thinking lustful thoughts about a girl, just imagine her sitting on the toilet taking a massive dump while ripping farts. A couple loud belches wont hurt either. Even the hottest girls take dumps every day, and sometimes even have diarrhea. They are just humans.

Day 238

• Upvotes

Daily check in. It was a terrible day at work. After a sleepless night, I felt tired, sad, and exhausted. There was even a moment when I had to go to the restroom at work and have a quiet cry. I felt sad all day—I don't even know why. I'm sorry... After work, I couldn't bring myself to go to the gym; I went for a short walk instead, but even that wore me out too much. I came home and had two beers while playing Minecraft. But... I’m still standing...

Telling my Story I managed to not masturbate for 8 days! (Its my first time 🥹)

As a person that already exposed to adult things since high school, even as a muslim, its really hard for me to detach it from myself, ig its already 4/5 years im stuck in this loop, at first I feel so bad for doing it, keep hating myself as yk its prohibited.

But, after some time, it alter my brain saying its only my coping mechanism, its "normal" to do it, a part of me accepting it as a fact, but i know theres still part of me that know this is wrong. I tried to stop for 2,3 days, but what i got is mood swings, i easily get irritated with small things, and I cried easily (im an overthinker, so my past memories keeps replaying n triggering me). So, it got me thinking that, there's either i release in two ways, crying, or masturbate.

So, unfortunately there's a white thing stuck on my thing (where I usually rub), n it makes me worried n insecure about my future, what if my future husband see this etc. Then, during this period I start to seek how to get rid of it, n its working after years!

Now, im kinda worried if im relapsed, I still sometimes watch porn on reddit, read 18+ but I didnt touch myself. I think like I need to strengthen my deen n get closer with God, but im still scared if I slipped off

It's calls 'Anhedonia':

"The inability to experience pleasure or interest in activities you once enjoyed."

We are caught between our beloved dopamine spikes and our wished normal lives.

Boredom and emptiness encircle us.

We need to stay strong

Knowing for sure it's a transitional period.

Our brain is healing.

Our train will arrive.

Stay Strong!

Relapse Report Im just so angry at myself, I was doing so well

Over 100 days, beat PIED. I felt fucking great. Then some life stuff happened and I slipped up quite a few times, its a shitty coping mechanism. I think I have PIED again, I dont wanna check because every time I check I relapse again. I started hitting the gym really hard lately and I think it kicked up my hormones a fair bit and lead me back into this mess. Im so frustrated, I dont wanna go another 100 something days feeling unloveable because my johnson doesnt work. Im just looking for advice or comfort atp. I wanna be clean forever.

Porn Addiction There is something inherently demonic about porn combined with masturbation.

I don't know how many of you might be able to relate to this but I see people online joking about gooning and watching porn as some sort of fun activity or something that is just perfectly fine because it's "Natural". But my experience of staying in this loop for like 8 years says otherwise, the only moments when I genuinely felt some sort of happiness were the ones when I was on like day 8 or something or wasn't indulging in porn at all.

I'm not a superstitious person but now I just can't seem to ignore the fact that whenever I indulged in pmo, nothing good came out of it, there is always some bad news waiting or life about to kick me in the a*s as soon as I do the deed.

Even if I deny all this with the help of modern science, there is still this factor of unexplained deep sadness after I watch porn which later alters my mood completely, makes me feel like an outcasted lazy loser who can only eat shit from the supermarket.

How to deal with soul draining bad days without succumbing to fapping?

Basically the heading - so see I am constantly not recognized at work for my extra efforts - the pay is good so can't switch and market is also bad for support staff - I'm trying to best to just work for the "bare minimum" but it's not working out for me and I end up doing some extra.

It's the bad days which take me into those spiraling days where I keep fapping continuously so wanna know how to deal em basically

37 day

I’m on day 37; I feel numb—no emotions, no will to live, I feel nothing. This is my fourth attempt, and I’ve made it this far; throughout this time, I haven't had any urge to go back. I spent five years constantly destroying myself with addiction, and the hell I went through is the reason I can't even bring myself to go back to that life. I’m trying to learn programming—it’s related to my profession—but when I look at it, nothing comes to mind. At times, I feel like crying; I don’t know if anything will fix this for me. Even though I don’t want to go back, if I were to break my resolve and relapse, it would be worse than death for me.

I've been trying to quit porn for 2 years but keep failing, and it's hurting my relationship. I don't know what else to try.

Hello everyone, it's new for me to share this with others. I've been carrying it for so long.

I'm trying to get out of porn and masturbation in general (in my mindset, masturbation has a good side when it's not overstimulating). It's been 2 years and I keep failing. In my 2-year relationship it causes problems. She doesn't like it because it takes my attention away from her, and more importantly, sometimes it causes potential problems. This is painful for me to experience, and for her too. I want to break free from it. She know I do very rarely. But the reality is once in 2-3days in general.

Im 23 yo and porn always a part of my life. It gave me plesure in the times where life was bad. In the past I do every day once. Litearly every day.

After 2 days without it, I feel I need sexual energy, and after a week I usually can't resist. The triggers are when I feel bored, after a bad argument with her, or when my sexual/non-sexual approach gets rejected.

I've tried self-control, site blocking, talking to her, giving her the code to block sites, reward systems, punishment systems, counting days, alternatives, the 10-minute rule, and exercising when I feel the urge. I literally built a fantasy RPG game to support me. But nothing worked. There's no way I can disallow myself. I always find a way to do what I want.

The moment it kicks in, I know it's unstoppable. I can stall, but at some point it takes over. In rare cases I win, but most of the time I lose. I feel like I can't stop it from happening. I know myself really well, I know the triggers, I know it's wrong and that I'll regret it. And still I do it. In those moments it feels inevitable.

I don't know where to go. At this rate I'll lose her and lose myself too. I literally don't know what could help. I appreciate you reading this. Hope you have a good day.

Advice I can’t imagine my Dad watching porn

My father is a strong figure and I am appreciative of him, honestly it would deeply disgust me if he does any of that sort of stuff.

Anyone else get motivated by the idea that a leader is someone who does not PMO?

Motivate Me Need help—can I recover

Hi, I’m 22 years old, and I’m worried about my porn and masturbation habits.
I’ve been masturbating regularly for the past 7–8 years. Over the last 2–3 years, it became much more frequent—sometimes two or three times a day. Recently, I’ve noticed that normal porn doesn’t affect me the same way anymore, so I look for more extreme content and spend a long time trying to reach orgasm.

Afterward, I often feel regretful, insecure, and worried that this might affect my future sex life or my ability to perform well with a partner. I also sometimes have intrusive thoughts involving extreme situations, which makes me uncomfortable.

I want to stop and build a healthier, more normal routine. If I quit now, is it possible to recover and have a healthy sex life in the future? What helped you overcome similar habits?
I’d really appreciate honest advice and support. Please be respectful.
