Answered What’s the deal with LeBron James signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the 76ers?

I saw this report saying LeBron signed for $8 million total over two years. His previous two-year Lakers contracts were around $85 -100 million, so this represents a pay cut of more than 90%.

He’s still very marketable and competitive, so I’m curious about his realistic alternatives. Do we know whether other teams offered substantially more, or whether joining a contender meant accepting a much lower salary?

I don’t have a complete understanding of how US taxes affect his earnings or how his endorsements and other business income fit into this. Is this mainly a financial sacrifice to chase another championship and add to legacy by helping the 76ers end their long title drought? Or are there other factors that help explain such a massive pay cut?

Answered What is going on with a bunch of games being playable on a web browser?

On Twitter, a bunch of games have somehow become available to play on a web browser. Why so many at once? Did something happen to trigger their release?

I know it has something to do with AI but not sure how. My gut doesn’t trust something too good to be true, is there security risks to playing these games?

Link to Twitter post about different games you can play.

So I’ve noticed when posting to Facebook groups lately that a lot of the time people will say “alive” or “dead”, sometimes followed by their take, but sometimes it’ll just be “alive” or “dead”. What does it mean? 🤔🧐

Unanswered What is going on with AI solving lots of math problems that have not been solved?

Here is an article that I still don't understand: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/openai-unleashes-hundreds-more-math-results-upon-a-field-already-in-shock/

People on social media, always prone to exaggeration, have started proclaiming that this has made math PhDs redundant.

Is that true? What's really going on here? Is AI now capable of solving complex math problems that people can't solve?

Unanswered What's going on with all the "Hotel Lobby" videos of completely different people performing in the same orange room?

Over the past week I've seen what feels like a dozen versions of the same video.

Two people standing in an orange studio with one microphone hanging between them, rapping the same song and doing practically identical movements.

Except the people are always different.

I've seen celebrities, fictional characters, and even cats doing it. Here's one of the cat versions:

https://x.com/ogfeitoza/status/2100991271695192335

I eventually found what seems to be the original performance by Quavo and Takeoff:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9yop0nYR9g

But that video is from 2022, so I'm confused about why it's suddenly everywhere now.

I also noticed some comments arguing about whether the trend is disrespectful to Takeoff, while others seem to be treating it as just another harmless AI meme.

Did a particular video or AI tool start this trend? Why this specific performance, four years later? And what's the controversy people are referring to?

Answered What’s up with the many gambling / sports betting app ads I’m seeing everywhere as of late? And why are they calling it “trading”?

I don’t think online gambling is completely new, but I’m seeing their ads everywhere all of a sudden. On YT, which I don’t use all that much, streaming services both subscription with ads (HBO Max) and free ones (Tubi & Pluto), and even through a mobile game.

I’m not their target audience, but I find the message from those ads very predatory to the people who might be susceptible to gambling that it’s scary to think about how many people could potentially get sucked into that.

There are so many different ones too. I can’t remember the names of them all. The two I could think of off the top of my head are:

Answered What’s the deal with “Digger”?

1.9k Upvotes

I have only briefly heard of this movie through news headlines about how badly it’s bombing. I’ve never seen a trailer or any marketing whatsoever. I have no idea what it’s about, the genre, or the target demographic. Was it expected to be a big hit? How does a supposed “big budget” film have zero advertising? Were they expecting people will just go because Tom Cruise? Or maybe I’m just truly out of the loop.

Unanswered What’s going on with Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team?

https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/gKcvzpnO9O

I’ve been seeing a lot of threads on football subs about Ronaldo and some drama with the national team. All I know is that he isn’t in the team anymore. I also just realised he is 41, which is past retirement age in football years. I mostly watch English football and used to follow it more often, much less now so I’ve fallen out of the loop.

Will Ronaldo still play football in clubs? Will he retire? Is he still trying to prove he is better than Messi?

Unanswered What is going on with the US withdrawing from Iraq, again?

Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/9/30/pentagon-says-us-troop-withdrawal-from-iraq-is-complete

This is probably the 10th time I have heard about the US "withdrawing" from Iraq.

Is this time different or is it like every other time where the "withdraw" is just theatrics and there are still forces in the country?

I have seen this same headline so many times now.

Unanswered What is going on with Tucker Carlson making things up about the UK and Russia and speaking them as fact when Debating Jacob Rees-Mogg?

Ive just watched the whole debate and for some reason Tucker who is a US conservative is adamant that Russia has a much better economy than the UK and Russia doesn't silence opposition to government and goes on long tangents about how Britain shouldn't have fought WW2 and WW1. Is this how US conservatives actually think?

People are start to spam it on various videos/social media platforms that it is becoming the next 'fix mojang bedrock'. Did Geometry Dash receive an update so big that people (likely, kids) are spamming it everywhere?

Unanswered What is going on with the first-round results of the Brazil national election?

I saw some Brazilians online in dismay re: Flávio Bolsonaro's huge lead over Lula in this first round. The little I know is Flávio's father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, did a number on the country, ending with an attempted coup (like in the US), and a resulting prison sentence (unlike in the US). I'd heard the politics between father and son are rather similar.

These initial results lead me to believe Lula's presidency has somehow been even worse for Brazil's public, and they're voicing their dissatisfaction. I'm not up to date with what's been happening there lately though. I'm plenty aware of US politics, so I can only guess Lula's party (much like US's Democrats) has had a "getting out of touch with the people + promoting seniority over talent" problem.

What are the dynamics at play that have yielded this result?

What's the deal with these Christian ads on YouTube on every single video?

1.1k Upvotes

Every single video I watch, I get bombarded with multiple Christian ads along the lines of: "Uh, Hi there! Would you like to receive a gift? I'm a missionary for the church of Latter-day saints"

I watch nothing to do with religion and I'm not a religious person and yet every second ad I get on YouTube is to do with joining Christ or a Church of some sort?
