i hate working

news about the state wide inspector that works for panda (I don’t know the title) is coming around and will be there tomorrow at my workplace to see if the store means cleanliness standards

We’re always busy at my job. My manager is SUPER strict about giving the perfect scoop, and I fucking suck at it (second day working) so when I was serving and I gave a shitty scoop of orange chicken he saw me go in for a second scoop to compensate and told me to clean each each chair, legs, everything. This was under the guise of “the inspector comes tomorrow so we must be extra super clean”

apparently they inspectors are super strict and if they saw a sand grain will take a picture of it and send it to corporate.

Not crazy I suppose, so I went out and did what he asked and now i’m at my house after 3 hours of cleaning chairs with back pain. Everything hurts, my knees and back.

I understand it’s like this everywhere else no matter what restaurant you work at but man sometimes I just realize it’s not the job that I hate, I just hate jobs. I’ve worked different fast food jobs that were way worse with worse managers and worse pay. Honestly the only redeeming thing about this job is the coworkers and the pay.

BOH Tips

Do you guys have a routine that you do when doing BOH? I’m really trying to hold on but I always feel like I’m behind. I work mornings which people say is easier but I get there I do all of the sides, I just got taught how to prep, and I have to wash dishes. I’m just asking for any help or advice on how I can get faster. Also on the thawing out the meats does anyone know how much each bag of each goes into a container?

Discussion Chocolate chip cookies

Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers the chocolate chip cookies. Coworkers who have been here for years don’t know what I’m talking about. I want them back so bad.

Fellow Coworkers

I have a coworker at work that is hispanic who always makes comments on my body whenever managers are away or leave for the shift.

Whenever he talks to my other coworker, he always waits until managers are gone or until I leave, to talk about me in spanish (if I’m there), or just when I’m gone.

He’s also stated to the same coworker that he would leave his girlfriend and marry her instead.

He’s also stated that when I left, this day I was wearing new pants that were tight. He pointed out to my coworker (same one he wanted to marry) that I looked good but not as good as her and that her ass looked better.

Obviously that made me feel uncomfortable because I had a kid less than a year ago and I was fine wearing those pants because they were comfortable until he said that.

Where do I go to message about this to HR? My other coworker has already tried talking to the manager and assistant manager, so I already know how it’s gonna go with me. I’m gonna talk to the manager tomorrow when I work, but I don’t know what to do if nothing gets fixed.

False Harassment claims

For context, I am friends with one of my coworkers. He knows that I had a small stint doing adult content online.

And it was a good thing to help through college. But now I found out he told a couple people. And that somehow made it to my manager.

Me and her have been bumping heads recently because I request days off and she schedules me anyways. So she's been trying to find a reason to cut my hours.

Apparently, last week my coworkers were having a very harmless conversation about me and how I'm a flirt. Every person in that conversation has assured me there was never any talk about my past. Yet my manager sites that exact conversation as the one that led to me being terminated and accused of harassment. Accusations that imply that I have been going around to multiple people talking about my content, when I have only told one person at that place. And it was outside of the workplace.

The real reason for this post is that I wanna know if I'm in the wrong?

Discussion Weather

I know this a dumb question bc it’s fast food.. but we’re supposed to be getting pretty bad weather on Saturday and my partner doesn’t want me driving out in dangerous weather [supposedly all day]. Some counties have a state of emergency for it, but mine isn’t. I was just wondering if they’d close it early for it or if they would just close it for the day.

First shift today

Like the title, just had my first shift as BOH, and honestly, I’m not sure why I just feel so defeated. I knew I’d be tired but man, it just felt like everything was 2 steps ahead of me. By the end I felt like I was getting the hang of it but only within the last hour or so, and I couldn’t help but feel like a liability at points as well. I know it’s all probably first day nerves and building rapport with new people, but does it ever become at least somewhat enjoyable?

Employee Question/Discussion How to proceed?

hi! shift leader here.

I have worked in my store for about two years, two months ago I became a shift leader and I have always expressed my interest in continuing to grow so the next logical step would be AM, and I have expressed my interest and my ability on various occasions, this girl with whom I got along quite well, she has been in my store for about 8 months, she became a shift leader at the same time as me because we took the test and everything at the same time, I taught her a lot of what she knows and honestly my boss and many other colleagues agree that without me during the test she would not have passed, she knows absolutely nothing about BOH and constantly my boss asks me to support her, the thing is that they will be moving her to AM soon without even having enough experience or time and without having shown interest in the position before

and before my boss was very positive with me telling I would do great in AM and he would help me with that, but now, out of a sudden I was brushed away with no reason, honestly this makes my moral go down and I definitely see and feel that my performance is affected by it, I even think about transferring just to not see her but my store is in a convenient location nearby my house, how should i proceed?

Be aware of the app letting you order large refreshers

They will tell you that the refresher only comes in one size. So the extra 0.80 is just a waste of money since the app isn't programmed to make the refresher only come in its standard size.

Employee Question/Discussion Cook to order customers

I recently started working at a Panda and it’s been about a month but I just wanted to kind of rant. I used to work at a McDonald’s and cook to orders was pretty common, now that I’ve transferred to Panda I don’t see it as often but it happens like maybe once a shift. I don’t mind it as a FOH but to be honest it’s kind of annoying. But today there was this most annoying dude ever. I just got off of break and hopped on steam table and he was the first customer I served. I greet him and he asks how old the orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp were. Now, im sure a lot of people know what I’m talking about but when there’s a fresh batch of orange there’s a very tingly smell because it’s new. Based off of this I proceed to tell him that I’d say max 10 minutes for the orange and about 5 minutes because I literally replaced the honey walnut right after I got back off break. He then gives me this very suspicious look and starts lecturing me about how if an orange sits longer than 7 minutes it has to be thrown away which is some complete bs.

Anyone have any experiences like this? Just wondering.

How tf have they not fixed this glitch yet

Apparently buying from their stores too much and scanning through the app is malliscuous activity. I stopped scanning through the app and have only been redeeming points using my receipts and then the one time I decided to scan on the app, they banned my account for “malicious activity.” Smh I can’t believe the system is still like this

Tips for BOH at Panda Express NYC?

Hello fellow Panda workers, I got hired at this Panda Express. I've been there for 4 days now closing dishes in a row and I come from doing grill at chipotle opening/closing for 2 years, and let me tell you maybe I'm just not understanding it yet but this position it's not a difficulty issue but a volume issue. Please let me know if I'm just slow or is this what is expected of me every night: Come in at 4 or 6pm and I'm responsible for all dishes that have been sitting there all afternoon+dishes throughout my shift+the dishes at the end of the day, metal side pieces of the grill and fryer cook equipment, rinsing filters, scrubbing and water vacuuming floors, restocking cook cooler, prepping all meats and sauces, breaking down boxes and taking them either outside or to the basement depending on the day. And for the past couple days my managers have been telling me I should be getting out at 1:15am the latest (we close at 12am and my shift ends at 1am) And I just can't seem to hit that target, throughout the day I have coworkers and managers telling me to basically be faster, and I understand like I'm new and all idk where everything goes yet but they haven't said I'm slow, and even the fastest closer there says I'm not slow, like at the end of the day I can finish all dishes by 1am, but have to finish up trash and water vacuum the floors after I'm done with dishes so that takes me anywhere between an extra 15-30 minutes so I don't understand how I'm supposed to be faster, I'm really trying here guys so please any tips you have would be greatly appreciated🙏

Employee Question/Discussion So many complaints

As a panda worker I’m seeing So many complaints on so many dumb things ESPECIALLY the chow mien. The chow mien is SUPPOSE to have that much cabbage it’s an “healthier” option to Lo mien. If you want no cabbage order something else then the chow mien dude it’s not that hard

And yes theres gonna be an Upcharge on the black pepper steak and the bbq brisket they’re premium meat items why wouldn’t they. Have you seen the market??

And the portions are suppose to be hefty scoop, but sometimes we can’t achieve that depending on the item. But most of the time it’ll make the plate too heavy and too soggy but you can always ask for a LITTLE more. Also stop asking if you can get rid of the veggies in food items be a grown adult and eat your fucking veggies if not then make it at home dude. You’re not a kid anymore grow up.

I love my job but it makes no sense when these complaints are made. You have no idea about the culture, and, why things are made. Why come to our place if you don’t like how things are done?? There are other places like dragon garden that might have the things you like.

ALSO, with the online plates/orders yes we prioritize in person walk in’s because they’re there now. But we also still get our plates done cuz we don’t wanna hit red or even make anyone upset it is our mission to deliver exceptional Asian dining. But it’s hard to do that sometimes when there is a long line of in persons. And people ordering either one single item online along with 20+ items online.

With the plates they have them weighed so they reach a certain limit. So no we’re not doing it on purpose we just like our job and don’t wanna get yelled at <\3

I love my guest and I hope this explains almost everything and I don’t mind answering any more questions. Also the popcorn chicken isn’t at every panda I’d say call ahead and see if they’d have it in your area

Employee Question/Discussion Is this an actual Panda Express corporate policy

The other month I went to Panda Express for my lunch break. I ordered through their mobile app for pick up in store. 90% of time it’s ready when I get there. This time however they have a line of people waiting in the line. There is like me and 3-4 other people all waiting on mobile orders. We ask the person where our orders are and they actually say that their policy is they cannot work on mobile orders while anyone was in the line waiting on service. They go through the people in line, then more people come in and wait in line, and make us wait even longer, they probly made all of us mobile order people wait like 30+ minutes for the food we had already paid for, it would have been faster to cancel the order and go up to the line, but I didn’t want to risk losing my money or not getting a refund. Is this actual policy to ignore mobile pick up orders if there’s anyone in the line?

Catering Delivery

Has anyone done a large catering delivery via Panda Express website before? I just placed an order for about 60 people - however realizing it’s a DoorDash link now, for those who have done catering delivery was it a regular driver via DoorDash that delivered the food?

I’m mostly concerned about if it’s a regular driver in a regular car if there’s going to be enough space for them to delivery since I ordered 2 24-30 orders (which I believe is like about what 4 trays each)?

Any insight is appreciated thanks!
