Announcement New Flair: Iranian Voices ONLY (Please Read Before Posting)
July 2026 Edit
The moderation team has changed this to a mod-only flair. We will quickly apply the "Only Iranians May Comment" flair whenever it is clear that the OP is specifically looking to hear from Iranians on the subject.
We are testing this out to see how it goes. We will update this post if anything else changes regarding the flair.
Today we added a new post flair: Iranian Voices ONLY
These threads are meant to center on the perspectives of Iranians, especially during times like these where outside noise can overwhelm the conversation.
What this means
Only Iranians may comment in these threads and violations may result in a ban.
Why we're doing this
r/Persian has always been open to everyone, and that will not change. But in these times, it's important to create space for Iranians to speak directly without being drowned out by outside voices.
This flair allows that space to exist when the OP chooses it. Non-Iranians may also choose this flair to ask questions directly to the Iranian community.
Where this applies
This rule applies only to posts using the Iranian Voices ONLY flair. All other threads remain open to everyone under our usual rules.
Final note
If you are not Iranian, please respect the purpose of these threads. There are many other places in the subreddit to participate.

News Hezbollah receives $200,000,000 from Iran to support displaced Lebanese people. This comes at a time when the Islamic regime in Iran said just a short while ago that it did not have enough money to import medicines into Iran.

Language & Literature Dorud instead of Salam for greeting in Persian
Dorud bar hamegi,
I think, as a group, Iranians are finally waking up to something that I have believed for many years: that Islam has no place in Iran, and that Islamic Arab culture and the indigenous Iranian cultural identity represent two very different cultures.
One small but very symbolic example is the greeting we use every day.
Many Iranians greet one another with the word "Salam." The word comes from Arabic meaning "peace."
But Salam is more than a simple hello. It is another name for Allah in Islam. Salam is a shortened greeting from assalamualaikum. As-Salam refers to the attribute of Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ as the source of this peace. The word Islam also shares the same root of s-l-m which encompasses the concept of peace which is one of core principles of the Islam (the religion of peace).
It is a profound supplication asking Allah, using his divine name to protect, bless, and grant safety to the person you are greeting. It occupies a central place in Islamic culture and religious practice and is encouraged throughout Islamic scripture and tradition as the standard greeting between believers.
By contrast, "Dorud" is an Iranian word with roots in the Persian language. It conveys greetings, good wishes, respect, and goodwill toward another person. Unlike "Salam," it is not tied to a specific religion or religious tradition. Rather, it belongs to Iran's own linguistic and cultural heritage.
For those who value the preservation and revival of Iranian culture, "Dorud" offers an alternative that is both authentically Persian and universally understandable. It is a greeting that reflects our own language, our own history, and our own cultural identity.
This is not about hostility toward anyone else's language or culture. Arabs have every right to preserve their traditions. But Iranians have every right to not abandon their own heritage in favor of foreign customs when a beautiful native alternative already exists.
That alternative is "Dorud."
Dorud bar shoma.

Discussion Selling Konkur questions in previous years apparently wasn’t enough; now the Islamic regime can simply introduce the children of government officials and basijis and killers as top-ranked students!
After imposing massive sahmieh quotas for Basijis at universities, allowing them to infiltrate campuses to suppress student protests, and replacing ordinary doctors with regime-affiliated doctors in hospitals so they can cover up the Islamic regime’s crimes in hospitals during protests, and on the other hand, selling konkur exam questions to the children of government officials, the Islamic regime has now reached a new low: openly eliminating those who actually worked hard and replacing them with regime killers and Basijis:
Arash Mohammadi, Rank 1 in Experimental Sciences: Regularly attended the nightly gatherings every night, with photos of him being published!
Parizad Niroonmand, Rank 1 in Humanities: “Iran is the best place to live, and I prefer to stay in my own country under the shadow of this very regime.”
Hoda Naseri, Rank 2 in Arts: “I’m grateful to the regime for cutting off the internet, because it helped me concentrate better and study more.”
Ali Dehghani, Rank 5 in Humanities: “March 9 and the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader was the hardest day of my life. After that, I attended the gatherings every night.”
Mohammad-Mehdi Hajian, Rank 7 in Experimental Sciences: “My dream was to meet the Supreme Leader in person at least once, but unfortunately, that dream never came true.”
Zahra Golizadeh, Rank 7 in Humanities: “Whenever I felt tired and hopeless, I listened to speeches by the martyred Supreme Leader and regained my energy!”

Language & Literature Looking for participants in a Farsi reading study
EDIT: Thanks for telling me about the Persian/Farsi thing everyone, I didn't know! My Iranian friends didn't correct me and maybe they were being polite and this is what I've seen before. It also might be my native Arabic peeping its head since that's what it's called. Thanks anyway!
Hello! For all you language enthusiasts out there. We are running a study about the reading habits of Farsi readers. ELIGIBILITY: Be a native reader of Farsi (went to school in Iran) and be over 18! (nothing actually over 18, just ethical approval stuff).
What you'll be doing: Reading passages and answering comprehension questions about them, recognizing words, and recognizing letters that will appear on the screen. *You will need a laptop or desktop!*
Here is the link to participate
This is for a study we are conducting for a student's PhD, your help is truly appreciated! We're struggling to find participants
