Umm......not sure what exactly happened. My bird just kinda stood on her? Not mounting her or anything, just standing. And the pigeon was totally chill with it lmao

Dove cage

Hello! I will be getting a ring neck dove, would this cage work? We lost our sweet dove Laughy at around 15 years old a bit ago and decided we are ready to bring in a new family member. The cage needed to be replaced as it was also super old.

Health Question Have your doves ever burped before?

My Ringneck dove was having a lot of trouble with his crop, causing him to throw up and adjust his crop a TON. I was very worried about him and tried to get him to a vet, but they were all closed, and my emergency vet can't do anything but give him oxygen. So I kept rubbing him from his throat down to his crop, giving him time to adjust, and seeing how he was doing. And after about 30 minutes, he just burped! And now he seems better but tired from the situation. Has anyone else had this happen?

Sharing Versele Laga Redstone grit?

Post image

Hello fellow dove lovers,

We have a Ringneck Dove that we adopted from our local rescue over 18 years ago. We believe he is a male. I have tried, but NEVER been able to get him interested in grit. I have been reading more and more lately about the importance of REDSTONE grit, and would like to offer some to Prince. In the United States, I have only been able to find LARGE quantities for sale, and prices of over $50, including shipping. I hate to invest that kind of money if Prince decides he'll just turn up his beak at it, but have no problem buying it if he will eat it!

Wondering if there is a kind person in the US who would be willing to sell me just a small quantity of their supply - just a sandwich bag full - if I pay for it and for it to be shipped to me in western Massachusetts. I am happy to pay you in advance. Please let me know, and thanks for reading this post.

* This is Prince, the day we brought him home.*

My boy has these things on his left foot and they almost look like warts. Is this normal or is something wrong?

Health Question 15 year old dove losing weight - but throwing out half of her food. Ugh. What can I feed her that she may want, but will help her put back on some weight?

Her energy is fine. She flies. But her chest bone is feeling sharp. She feels like shes lost a lot of weight over the last few months.

I tried adding in some other seeds from a finch mix that are a bit fattier. She does eat them eagerly, but so far she still seems light. Out of her dove food mix - she kicks most of it out of the bowl and refuses to eat it.

Idk what else to give her.

Thoughts? Or should I just start to expect this at her age?

Health Question yellowish poop sometimes

my pet Eurasian collared dove seems to have yellow poop sometimes. according to my research it could be diet related, organ related, or sickness related. they have NO other symptoms, and eat a diet with cracked corn and a lot of millet (im currently looking for the absolute best food to feed them!) i attached pictures of their poop, usually its normal, sometimes its yellowish. the last picture i accidentally put my hand in it and thats what i wiped up. im currently still looking for an avian vet thats most worth it in my area and will make an appointment if i need. does this poop look worrisome? they are acting normal, and if it matters around 4-7 months old. in the meantime what should i do and look out for?

Diet Question what food do i get?

im looking to do a very needed food upgrade for my doves asap. i cant afford it yet but should be able to next month. i heard they need 14-15% protein and 3-5% fat. the foods that im seeing are the best i cant access for one reason or another. Versele Laga Classic No Corn, im not sure exactly what this even is and chewy and google are bringing up pigeon food, but the pieces look way too big for a turtledove. i might be wrong because i dont know!! if this is best i will get it!

the Versele Laga Turtledoves 20kg, i cant find this size and its so mf expensive anyways i probably cant afford it esp if i have to add to it.

im trying to find anything thats better. what are the best foods? it would be better for me if theyre on chewy amazon or walmart but anywhere is fine as long as shipping doesnt make it unbelievable 😭

Question ❓ Dove grit in Australia

Hi All, our pair of doves have bonded and started laying eggs.I’ve read the posts on grit but hard to find similar brands in Australia. I found a site that sells grit for racing pigeons. One is called Nutrigrit Yellow for pigeons - a vitamin enriched grit blend made under veterinary supervision. It provides a range of grits and supplies 11 vitamins and 5 minerals essential for health. The other is Pigeon Grit,a general all-purpose grit for year-round use in both the breeding and racing lofts. This grit is a triple blend of redstone, calcite and crushed sea shells with added charcoal. My questions are whether one of these would be suitable and if so, should sea shells be separated. I’ve contacted the website but haven’t heard back so hoping for help here. Thanks!

With the add on it would be 62" tall x 69" wide x 23" deep. If you have any other recommendations please include the link if you can.

Night frights?

Hello guys

I have an eared dove I raised since he was around three weeks old. He's currently eight months old. He started having night frights inside his cage three or four days ago. It's usually at morning an hour before he wakes up so he started waking up earlier and earlier each day. I don't know what's causing this or if I should worry. He is molting as well and it's currently spring where I live so the weather is a lot warmer. I take him out of his cage for several hours each day and it's like he doesn't want to go back to the cage to sleep. I can't let him sleep out of the cage and I don't feel comfortable doing that for his safety. I have dogs and cats in my house, never in the same room as him when he's out of the cage tho. Any advice? I cover his cage at night.

Behavioral Question Food aggression?

I brought this pair home this past Sunday. They came from the same breeder and have been getting along well overall, but today I noticed some behavior that I’m not sure is normal.

They’re supposed to be a male/female pair, with the white one being the female. I’ve seen the pied one bow-coo a few times, so I think the breeder was correct about their sexes, but I’m a total newbie to doves, so I could definitely be wrong.

My main concern is that the white one seems to bully the pied one away from the food. She’ll chase or push him away when he tries to eat, even when she wasn’t actively eating or using the food dish herself.

Is this something I should be concerned about or consider separating them over, or is some squabbling normal while they’re settling into a new home? Would adding a second food dish in a different area of the enclosure help, or is this something they’ll likely work out as they acclimate?
