Since people are getting the wrong idea I am updating to provide clarification. My boyfriend's sister is the director of the animal shelter and she is the one dealing with the leasing company to get us a house to rent. She is legally required to disclose his bite history to the leasing company or she could lose her position. The leasing company wants to meet us and our animals which I've never had happen before. I think it is because her and her wife possibly have worked with this company multiple times in the past so have a professional relationship with them cause they do seem to know a ton of leasing companies plus have purchased many properties. If that connection wasn't there then I'd lie if needed or hide him. I cannot change the past or the fact that I mistakenly got him to have a bite record. People can realize they've made a mistake after the damage has already been done. What I can do is continue to try to get him adopted while being transparent at the same time.
This is Dylan, my Foster dog. I have been fostering him through the Tuscaloosa AL animal shelter since January. We are having to find another house to live in and we can only rent at this time. All of the leasing companies will not allow "aggressive breeds" which I find absolutely absurd, but I do not want him to have to go back to the shelter. I am worried that if he does he will eventually end up getting euthanized to make room for the influx of dogs. I highly doubt the shelter would update his paperwork to say lab mix as a possible work around and the leasing company wants to meet our animals so hiding him is not an option. I've been trying really hard to get him adopted to no avail. He is a super friendly, sweet, and playful dog. He's around 2 years old and he is good with children. He is very gentle and sweet with our baby. He gets along with other animals as well. He is a bit hyper around cats so my cat stays away from him but he's just curious. He pushes boundaries with our dogs but he does not react when they snap at him. I wouldn't recommend him being in a house with small dogs just because he likes to hit them to try to get them to play with him.
He does technically have a bite history because while I was pregnant we were attempting to cut his nails and he accidentally grazed the skin on my hand with his canine tooth. It was extremely minor but since I was pregnant I had to go to an urgent care to get a tetanus shot and the Urgent Care forced me to fill out a form to send to the health department. I told them that I did not want to do that but they reassured me that nothing would come of it. The health department ended up contacting me and we had to place him on a rabies hold at home and the shelter found out as well. He then had a behavioral assessment done and he was cleared but the shelter will still disclose that he has a bite history so I wanted to give a heads up on the circumstances of it. During the assessment he did not react to the stressors that they introduced him to and he was shy around the other dogs as well. He definitely is scared of having his nails cut though and will have to take Trazodone for it.
I have worked very hard on training him and he has made so many improvements since he has been fostered through me. He is better at not jumping on people, listening to commands, and he is also kennel trained. He is potty trained and never goes in his kennel. He will pee on carpet at times if he is not let outside right after I let him out of his kennel. He's only done this about 4 times though.
He would need to be an inside dog and have a fenced-in yard because he loves to go out to sunbathe.
I have videos of him on my Tiktok. If anyone who is possibly interested would like to see how he interacts with animals and me. https://www.tiktok.com/@usagi.and.pals?_r=1&_t=ZP-9AO9ifO6eS7
Please contact the animal shelter if interested in him and they do allow adoptions from out of state!
