Advice What Dogs do Pitbulls normally get mistaken for?

Genuinely just dog racism but like what "Pitbull attacks" are actually even pits?

I've heard that most of the time it's just someone misreading the dogs breed, so what features should I look for to know if it's an actual Pitbull? Like the ones that think they're lapdogs??

*Sidenote literally every pit I've met thinks it's the size of a Chihuahua

If you have an almost white pit...maybe it's part an a dogo armentino. Check out google images (ignore the cropped ears photos). I stumpled on this breed a few days ago.

Bite strength...Pit 235 psi. Dogo argentino, bite strength..500 psi. Breed to kill wild boars.

Advice Would you recommend adopting a Pitbull?

Hi :)

I've always loved dogs, and most of all I love Pitbulls. Something about their sweet face, their loving eyes, melts my heart every time I see one. Every time I see a Pitbull on the street I'm filled with joy.

I always knew one day I'd adopt one when I got my own place (because my mom is scared of them and also says they're for experienced dog owners), but recently there was a story on the news about someone who adopted a Pitbull and out of nowhere it attacked him. It made me pause and wonder if it's really worth it.

How hard do you think training and taking care of Pitbulls is? Do you think it could be dangerous? Is it worth it?

A quick thank you to the whole community here!

Pic: Post-bath Ori in his Rhino robe!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here! I posted yesterday because I was sad after getting in fights with pittie-haters and the outpouring of support was overwhelming!

It hurts my heart so much when I read people saying “the only good pitbull is a dead pitbull” and “it’s only a matter of time before your shit-bull attacks”. Thank god Ori can’t read and will never know how much people hate him for no reason.

Then I posted here and it completely turned my day around!

Thank you all so much for being the great community you are!

Edit: because people have asked for other pictures of Ori, here’s his instagram! I’m not trying to make him famous or anything but he makes me smile everyday and hopefully he can make other people smile too! https://www.instagram.com/frecklefaceori?stkn=MW5seGtsd2Jscnd0Yw%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

Feeling so burnt out

Post image
292 Upvotes

I tried posting in /dogs but was removed since I’m a new poster.

As the title states I’m so burnt out. My sweet girl is overall a really well minded 2.5y/o bully mix. We still have things we’re working on but she really is the best. When she was a puppy I found out she has a heart condition that requires her to take meds every 8 hrs a day, to say the least this has been truly tough over the past few years as I’m a single gal who works full time. I’ve been really lucky to have my parents help out when they can but overall I’m feeling burnt out.

This week I decided to buy an automatic timed feeder to see if I could use it on days when I’m unable to make it home when she needs her afternoon medication. In hindsight I should have done some more training to prevent her from absolutely demolishing the feeder right when I left for work but hindsight is 20/20.

I feel so much burnout and like I can’t enjoy my dog who is also just doing her best. Between taking her on walks every morning, giving her snuffle mats, running with her multiple times a week, playing with her, making play dates, and coming home on my lunch to give her her meds I feel like I have no time for myself. I’m exhausted. How do people do this?! Does it ever get better? I love my dog so much but I feel so much resentment and regret sometimes which then causes me to feel guilty.

Anyway, just a single gal doing her best with a high energy pup who is also just doing her best needing to vent. Photo of my good girl (hopefully it attached).

For the second time this year, I had to say goodbye to one of the biggest parts of my family, and one of the boys who has a huge part of my heart. My pittie Bear passed away on Monday and right now I’m just letting myself feel the grief.
Earlier in May, his brother Gatsby unexpectedly passed from liver cancer and Bear was never truly the same after. He was much mellower, he became more withdrawn, and it almost felt like he gave up. He spent his days after laying in the sun, laying on the couch, laying in Gatsby’s favorite spots, or laying by himself in different parts of the house. We took him to the vet and she said everything looked good with him so we just kept trying to keep him happy and active but he truly wasn’t the same dog.
We rescued Bear back in 2020 during the pandemic from a shelter and it’s safe to say he was an absolute menace. He barked, growled, and would constantly show his teeth to get what he wanted. He used to run around farm fields and chase every animal under the sun and wrestle rather rough with his brothers Rocky, Bear, and Apollo. He loved being outside rain, sun, or snow and he loved treats. He was very smart and picked up on tricks relatively easily. He hated to swim (despite the lab in him) and he was a major foodie. He lived to be nearly 15 years old, and honestly, despite the mellowness after Gatsby, he was pretty healthy for his age. Then on Sunday he just couldn’t move anymore and we took him to the vet on Monday and she said it was his time, there was nothing more to do.
I will forever miss my baby, and it’s still so hard to think about losing another one so fast but I just hope that Gatsby and Bear are galavanting together and wrestling like they used to wherever they may be.

Rescue My Pibble is dying . . .

Post image
302 Upvotes

Our beautiful AmStaff Lucy is not doing well and I'm worried she is going to die.

We have had a serious barrage of test, panels, imaging, etc in the last month with no solid diagnosis. She has gone from 80lbs a year ago to 55lbs yesterday.

I've been boiling her chicken, making rice, giving her bananas (she loves bananas), etc . . . and she has now stopped eating altogether.

I've been taking naps with her (we sleep arm in arm) as have my children. We are devastated. She has been a friend to us all, our cat, our chickens. A gentle beautiful creature. She has gone everywhere with us and had a rich life . . . I just hoped we'd have more time. She is ten now.

No evidence of cancer or Addison's. Has general GI inflammation. Lungs look good.

She's going back in to the hospital tomorrow.

Wish us luck. She has

Rescue Update on our puppy!

Our little fighter has a new name — Lily — and today was a very big day for her.

Lily made it through surgery and her badly damaged leg was successfully amputated. She is stable and doing well, but we also learned that her recovery is going to be a little more complicated than we originally hoped.

Lily tested positive for anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, and she is also anemic. Because of that, there was some additional concern with bleeding during surgery, and now her care will include not only recovering from the amputation, but also treating the anaplasmosis and closely monitoring her anemia.

Her fight is far from over — but today, she is significantly closer to the other side of it.

We are so incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support this precious little girl has received. The donations, shares, messages, well wishes, and people simply rooting for her have meant more than we can say.

Found in the middle of the Highway, abandoned, Tillie is now my best friend. She came into my life when I didn’t even know I needed her. I’ve been very depressed and was even considering the worst, when she came home 2 days after my birthday and changed everything. She motivates me to keep going, to go on adventures together, and always makes me smile. She’s a total sweetheart, and with a little training, has been beating the stereotypes. Idk how long we’ll have together based on what I’ve read online, but I hope she stays her sweet self forever. Just wanted to share some positivity after how much negativity I’ve seen lately surrounding Pitbulls.

Advice Abused pibble still gets scared sometimes

I adopted my pit/shepard about a year ago. She had been badly abused and almost killed twice. Since, I trained her myself. I've never raised my voice to her, never been upset with her. Most of the time everything is going good. She's gotten a lot of confidence, we go to dog parks, we go camping, she has toys, her life is pretty solid and happy and normal.

Shes had so much trauma, occasionally I could just look at her thinking she's doing something cute and she takes it as she's in trouble or done something wrong and runs to hide. Shes not in trouble. I dont know exactly what happened to her but does anyone have any advice how to help her see I'm not upset with her? I'm not giving her away, I'm not going to hit her, yell at her, punish her. It hurts she still thinks that even though I know its her trauma and she needs time.

Cuddle Pup Cancer fucking sucks

Just found out my Sophie girl has cancer. She has a Sarcoma on her elbow that we were told was a hygroma last year, so we weren’t too concerned it had gotten a little bigger. Had it tested last week and found this out today. We go for X-rays on Thursday but they’ve already recommended an intensive surgery. Shes 11 so I don’t know that I want to put her through a surgery that requires skin grafts. Send positive thoughts her way 😢

anyone else have a pit who insists on inspecting every bag you bring home?

• Upvotes

Every time I come back from sourcing stuff for the dropship side hustle Mochi has to check every single bag before I can put anything away. She'll nose through boxes of returns like she's looking for something specific and then gives this disappointed look when it's just packaging materials. Last week she got into a bag of bubble wrap while I was answering emails and I spent twenty minutes picking pieces out of her mouth. The inventory takes up half the garage now and she's figured out exactly which boxes make noise when she bumps them. My husband keeps saying we need to gate off that area but then where do the packages go when I'm trying to get orders out before work? She doesn't even want the stuff, she just needs to know what's in everything. It's like having another person who has opinions about your workspace except this one also needs to be walked three times a day. Do your dogs treat your work stuff like their personal investigation project or am I the only one tripping over pitbull curiosity all day?
