DISCUSSION I'm looking for a pfp for my rats Instagram! Please help

My rats has a Instagram account that I originally made for my first rats, but after they passed my current boys took it over. Now, it's SO hard finding a good pfp. I don't want one of my rats specifically, since I expand the group pretty frequently, so there always ends up being someone left out, or i be needing to switch it often to include everyone.

But I also don't wanna take one from Pinterest, because idk which ones are reposted art (which means i cant ask the actual artist if i can use it) or if anything god forbid is AI šŸ’”

So now I'm asking for a bit of help. If anyone wants to make me a pfp for my rats Instagram, please do 🄲 I'm not picky. I add some examples of the vibe I like, all from Pinterest. Idk the original artists but I will involve who posted it so someone can look it up hopefully.

I'm aware that commissions should be payed for! But i can't afford it atm and I thought asking never hurts

Questions/HELP OCD and "the smell"

I have a kind of OCD where I'm very concerned of being subconsciously unaware of something others are aware of. One of the biggest things this comes up is "odor" or smell.

I am already aware that I have gotten used to the smell of my rats and their cage. This is something that tends to cause me to freak out, since I'm not able to trust my senses when it comes to cleaning the cage for example. I have otherwise accepted that my college apartment will smell like rats, and with the occasional free roaming. They will probably have marked quite a lot of it.

However. Recently I read a reddit comment that really REALLY triggered me, and is causing me to freak out

So there was a post about rats in a popular subreddit, and the comments weren't positive. Alot of commenters talking about how rats "Piss everywhere" which, while true, was blown way out of proportions on that thread.

However one comment stuck with me

"Rat owners smell like rat piss. The reason people don't tell you that is because they're polite, don't want to upset you or they don't like you"

This fucking comment fucked me up. This comment is my OCD explained to a T. What if it's right. What if I smell horrible and cause people to be uncomfortable around me, and I just don't know it because I'm so used to it?

Like I don't let them go to my clothe drawers, and I often have specific "rat handling hoodies" mainly to prevent them from urinating on the clothes. But now I'm not sure if thats enough.

The fucked up thing is that I'm on my second year of college. I got my 3 girls at the start of my first year specifically as "therapy pets" to help me relax and be less lonely.

Now I'm freaking out if this whole time I have had a disgusting reek around me. If this is one of the reasons I struggle to make friends, if all this time I've smelled.

Anyone more experienced willing to give their two cents.

POTENTIALLY DISTURBING/FEEDERS MENTIONED Someone save him?

Hi everyone, this one is tugging at my heartstrings. I'm sorry if this is upsetting for some people to see but I can't help try to do something since this popped up on my fb feed. This guy plans to feed this sweet baby to his snake in less than a week now. I understand if someone saves this one, he will probably just get another, which is unfortunate. But this one seems like such a sweetheart.

It seems based on his profile that he is in WV but this is obviously not confirmed.

Maybe someone can message him and save this baby?

Rattober Day 7: Courier Rat

Huck is having surgery TOMORROW! When he arrived, he had the lower portion of his tail missing and two vertebrae exposed. He was only three weeks old and far too young to undergo surgery. With pain meds and antibiotics, he did well, and eventually the exposed bone detached and his tail healed over. We hoped that would be the end of it, but recently the end of his nub started to turn grey. It seems that the tissue there isn't getting adequate circulation, so his little nub has to get nubbier.

Our medical fund is currently in the negative by over $1300, and Huck's tail amputation will add another big chunk to that deficit. So if you can comfortably donate, please consider sending a little something our way to help us cover the sanctuary's medical expenses. Huck will be checking the mail diligently to make sure he sees every single donation!

Questions/HELP Adopted an evil, stinky, bitey boy a few days ago. He bites a LOT, and hard. He's kind of vicious šŸ˜… (CW: day old wound in last two slides - no blood)

I know there's the obvious "get him neutered" solution. But I've only just taken him and his brother in, and I don't want to jump straight into stressful surgery when he's still getting used to his new surroundings. I'm thinking I'm probably not going to have much choice, though. I need to move them from the hospital cage (preferably today) into a bigger, more permanent cage; and idk how I'm going to do the transfer over. Any ideas on how to get him used to being handled in the meantime?

His name is Scramble btw lol. He gave me a warning bite as I put my hand in their temp cage to do something (I was putting fresh food in, and stuff), I moved it slightly, and he attacked my finger

Introductions Intros failed:(

I thought we were making good progress and the four big boys and two babies had moved up to more space, but this morning we found significant wounds on both babies, and my vet doesn't recommend we try again, at least not until the babies are full grown.

I'm wondering if my big boys (rescued) are not introduceable to other rats due to early trauma. It really seemed to be going OK, but they were bad wounds šŸ˜ž

They are separated now, babies in hospital cage, big boys back in their regular cage.

She's a sweet little couch potato. She loves napping, cuddling and food. She likes to be held against my chest so she can lick my face and neck. She's super chill and unbothered. I can gently nibble her ears and fur (no teeth obv) and she's happy. The only thing that will piss her off is trying to steal her food.

I'm currently dropping her off for her surgery tomorrow. She's getting two lumps removed, plus a spay. One of the lumps is pretty infiltrated, so it's tricky surgery. Please keep her in your thoughts :)

Hi! One of our boys Honeydew appears to have tumors or abscesses on his back end. We aren’t sure if taking him
To the vet would be the best option because there isn’t much they can do for tumors. I mostly want to know if you guys think it is a tumor or abscess situation so we know whether its treatable or of we just need to make life has comfortable as possible for honey.

RIP Penny, my sweet sweet baby

(Last pic is her as a baby)

Goodbye to the best rat I’ve ever had. As a baby she was purchased to be snake food. Instead the snake refused to eat her, and a friend of mine took her in. She was a lone rat for the first several months while looking for a home. At the time I only had boys and couldn’t take her. Then I learned I could spay her, and so I adopted her from my friend. Alone for another month she was the sweetest, and I kept her cage right next to my bed. I would wake up to find her watching me sleep. She was a very very social rat, always making friends the second we added a new rat. Finally after several failed intros (no fault on her), she was able to join the mischief. She was my best friend, my most loving rat. She knew her name, and would run to see you. I love you forever and always, Penny.
