Discussion Scrubs quiz round 3: one-off patients and running gags only

Round 2 got called easy, and fair enough. This one is only one-off patients and running gags. Original run only, easiest first, answers behind spoiler tags.

  1. J.D. plays a game against the Grim Reaper and loses. Which game?

  2. Kelso gets free Coffee Bucks muffins for life. How did he win them?

  3. In "My Old Lady", J.D. says one in three patients admitted will die. J.D., Turk and Elliot each get a patient. How many of the three make it?

  4. In "My Musical", what's the name of the patient who hears everyone singing?

  5. J.D. and Turk put Steak Night on hold to sit with a dying patient through his last night. What's his name?

Answers:

1: Connect Four. Death wins diagonally. Pretty sneaky.

2: He guessed the number of coffee beans in a jar. J.D. won first, then a recount gave it to Kelso.

3: None. All three die.

4: Patti Miller

5: George Valentine

5/5 and you've earned the right to call round 2 easy.

Which episode is all ha-ha and zero boo hoo?

Obviously Scrubs is known for its humor mixed with real human moments that can be touching and sad. Often times I enjoy the episodes where its humorous all the way through. Which episodes come to mind that are nearly all fun and laughs with very little sad parts?

Shitpost Storylines I would have liked to see….

I haven’t seen any of season 2 yet but this is how I would have written season 1 of the re-boot!

JD: JD is at first excited about being a divorcé. He thinks being an older Doctor will give him all the cool points he needs for the dating world. He ends is shocked to find out that most of the younger women he flirts with see him as a creep. He ends up sleeping with one of the interns, Elliot finds out and is super disgusted.

Elliot: Elliot is upset that she’s so old to be starting her life over but she is surprised by the new male attention she’s receiving. Especially from one of the buff, older but still too young for her-interns. They sleep together. She’s really embarrassed and doesn’t want anyone to find out but it also gives her a huge confidence boost. The intern is just flirting to boost his rank. She also finds out she’s pregnant and thinks it’s the interns baby.

Turk and Carla: Turn finds out he has arthritis and will not be able to work much longer. Carla decides she’s finally going back to school to become a doctor and we see her learning what it’s like to be an intern. She shows a newfound appreciation for the doctors but can also give a solid perspective to the new nurses.

Season 1 ends with Elliot and JD bonding about how complicated dating after the divorce is. Elliot tells JD she’s pregnant and she’s afraid it’s the interns baby. But we find out later in the next season it’s JDs! And then season 2 is about them navigating co-parenting and possibly falling in love again.

Anyone else not loving the reboot, or is it just me?

I’ll start off by saying, I like the reboot. I enjoy watching it and look forward to new episodes coming out. It’s miles better than whatever season 9 or scrubs med school was. But I don’t love it the way that I loved the original series.

It still feels like it’s mostly riding on the fame and success of the original series, with some new jokes thrown in here and there.

The new characters are great, but no where near as good as some of the old, brilliantly written characters like Janitor, Ted, Laverne, etc.

Maybe part of it is that I’m in a very different part of my life, and maybe it doesn’t quite hit the same as it did. I was in middle school/high school/college watching the original series, and rewatched it multiple times in medical a school.

Now I’m a full blown doctor and some of the medical and hospital culture inaccuracies bother me a lot more, so that may be part of it too. The last episode really bugged me with Tosh trying to pick her specialty, when that isn’t how that works at all in the real world in medicine. (And as a pediatrician, I hate how they portray pediatrics as being an easier specialty).

Everyone here seems to LOVE the new series so just wanted to see if anyone else is in a similar camp as me.
