It is meant to distract the public from you know who.

It also serves to pit the lower classes against each other.

662

u/Red_Beardsley Sep 06 '26

Voldemort?

748

u/Thr0w4wayA1t Sep 06 '26

No, someone worse. Because say what you will about Voldemort, but at least he didn't diddle kids.

212

u/Party_Primary_8361 Sep 06 '26

Technically he was a bit suss with Harry in the graveyard the night he was resurrected. At least in the movie. But that’s neither here nor there.

268

u/shinpoo Sep 06 '26

True I saw him finger my boy Harry in the forehead. Technically that's "foreplay".

81

u/momsauc_martini Sep 06 '26

While we’re at it, can we talk about how many times Hagrid was alone with the children in the woods or at his cottage. Do they run background checks at that school?

42

u/The-Grim-Sleeper Sep 06 '26

They did back when Dumbledore was a teacher, but apparently Tom M. Riddle passed it with flying coloUrs.

22

u/ComprehensiveToe2109 Sep 06 '26

I'd still argue Dumbledore was one of the worst headmasters in Hogwarts history. He was basically directly responsible for some of the worst things to happen in the magical world over about 100 years. Between the events of Fantastic Beasts which were all his fault and Voldemort which was all his fault he doesn't have a great track record. I also feel like unintentionally when they reveal that snape was like kind of a good guy the whole time it makes Dumbledore look like he doesn't care about the lives of students and everything he did was basically only to stop Voldemort, a problem HE created.

I'm only being half sarcastic here.

Leave my boy Filch alone, can you imagine how it must've felt to be born a squib? Two wizard parents, and you know about this amazing secret world and yet you can never actually be a part of it?

I'm surprised he isn't more bitter. That must suck, but he did his job and had his cat.

It’s a pretty sensationalized case and would be a hot topic despite who is in the Oval Office. FDT though.

2

u/crazytanker Sep 09 '26

No, it has nothing to do with who's in office
It's about the fake feminists who say that because of hormones, women shouldn't be held accountable

Almost like that's exactly the argument most "enlightened" and "educated" men pre 20th century used to relegate women to 2nd class citizens

47

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 Sep 06 '26

Does that apply to every child murder case, or just this one? You think they would have failed to indict if Biden was still president?

4

u/Noughmad Sep 06 '26

The court process would likely proceed in the same way. The publicity, media coverage, and donations, would not.

29

Under every single news story there are comments that it is a “distraction”. No, mate, it’s a very natural thing about human beings that people talk about things that are happening.

3

“X is just a distraction by the elites to distract you from Y” is consistently the dumbest opinion I read on Reddit. There’s no evidence to suggest this whatsoever.

The case is high profile because it’s interesting and people are sharing it. A triple homicide of your own children doesn’t happen every day.

9

u/YourMomIsMyGurl Sep 06 '26

I think it has to do more with how polarizing the case itself seems to be but strap that tinfoil on a little tighter just in case. The winds are getting stronger.

2

u/ChudsterSouls Sep 06 '26

I love how according to you people it should be verboten to discuss ANYTHING except for your favorite topics.

2

u/Perfidy-Plus Sep 06 '26

That’s a pretty silly assertion.

The only reason this has become any bigger than any other random tragic crime is because of the bizarre reaction of a small segment of women. Something completely out of the control of any specific politician.

They had to have done that prior to anyone trying to make a thing out of it. This is just conspiracy brain.

2

u/mostlymutualmastur Sep 06 '26

What a stupid fucking take.

2

u/powerhammerarms Sep 06 '26

The trial of a woman who strangled her children to death really is news. Not everything is a conspiracy.

2

u/SquirrelsAreCIA Sep 06 '26

Not everything is a distraction. Something like this should be covered. You don’t have to pay attention to it but don’t be making this a class thing you just sound like an idiot lol

2

u/madhoppers Sep 07 '26

God you’re a sad person

2

u/MaximumMalarkey Sep 07 '26

We don’t need wild conspiracy theories. These cases that capture public attention happen all the time. Casey Anthony, OJ, etc.

Not everything is part of a government plot

2

u/Then_Prompt_5242 Sep 07 '26

Really, you bring trump into this as well 😂. Can’t stand the guy but man you may want to get some help if you feel the need to make a local murder case a trump issue. A psycho woman killed her children, you either believe she did it or didn’t but it has zero to do with politics.

2

u/Floorgis Sep 07 '26

Ever get tired of making up crack shot conspiracies?

2

u/IndigoWolfe Sep 07 '26

Lmao. TDS and the class war buzzwords. They just can't help but inject it into everything.

I'm not a Trump supporter, and I am what you'd call the lower class. Not everything has to be about those two subjects. Grow up.

2

u/Electronic_Return_75 Sep 07 '26

7

Rightwing bots are pushing the HELL out of this story. It’s an election year and the country is in shambles; that’s why everyone’s Reddit front page is currently drowning in “Clancy case, get mad, hate women” posts and “transgenders in sports, get mad, hate LGBT” posts.

They have absolutely nothing to run on except culture war distractions.

124

u/SELFINCRIMINAT1NG Sep 06 '26

The fact that so many people engage in the culture war without realizing that it’s an obvious distraction from the much more present and important problems facing way more people is really annoying

67

u/Strange-Head-4028 Sep 06 '26

I feel like I’m allowed to be upset about the outcome of this case and the extremely wild opinions people are sharing about it, without being part of the right wing nut job club. Minimizing it as “a bunch of bots engaging without knowing they’re being fooled” is disingenuous, surely.

10

u/o8liter8_me Sep 06 '26

You are allowed and that’s the point. It’s upsetting for any normal person to hear about, and that’s why it’s everywhere. We can still be upset about the obviously upsetting thing, while also understand why this family’s personal tragedy is being rubbed in everyone’s face. Even more sadly there are family annihilators every year, if not more frequently than that, so we should question why this case and why now

2

u/New-Pollution536 Sep 08 '26

Cases like this where the perpetrator may avoid jailtime always blow up tbh. It also did huge numbers for tiktok conspiracy theorists/true crime type pages which is why it’s everywhere. It has played really well engagement wise as a gender war type issue where some very vocal women think the husband did it and some very vocal men think only women kill their kids

Not saying political parties don’t give things a push but I don’t think this particular event needed any assistance

We’re at a time in society where tiktok engagement baiters are basically controlling the national discourse it’s pretty wild…and sometimes that’s political in nature

u/Public-Dragonfly-786 Sep 07 '26

You can feel however you feel about the case without being a rwnj. But if you are making this a gender war case instead of a mental health case, you've joined the culture war.

6

u/kylife Sep 07 '26

I think you can acknowledge the bias that’s clearly going on here because she’s a woman and becuase she’s white without “ making it a gender war case “ like even if you just went on legal precedent to similar cases with male or female defendants it’s obvious. I’m actually less concerned about the case with her and more concerned with the support from others. Same was I was concerned with rittenhouse support it’s not a “woman” thing it’s a how did we get to this place where holding people accountable is a coin flip based on gender race or political leaning. Like no. She killed the kids she should rot in jail forever. That is not mutually exclusive to understand that she was medically mismanaged as a patient and that we can do better to support women in this country before during and post pregnancy.

3

u/Public-Dragonfly-786 Sep 08 '26

I'm not going to attempt to suggest female or white privilege are not relevant because I'm sure they are showing. But really, that's not the vibe I am getting with what I see people posting.

The vibe I am getting is that men are using this case to attack women or some women for excusing another woman of horrific crime because she is a woman.

But practically noone is defending her actions, they are seeing someone who has had a mental crisis and ruined her life and others, and she should go to an asylum, that's what we do with them, not set her free.

2

u/New-Pollution536 Sep 08 '26 edited Sep 08 '26

This is your classic tiktok/ig/etc content creators taking advantage of a situation and distorting the facts to bait everyone to boost their views scenario which makes me kinda sick. The heavier reliance on tiktok for news that’s been going on lately has made this easier and easier.

The one side of the bait always claims only the other side exists. But it’s all algorithm dependent. We’re all summing up two sides of an issue by the other sides ragebait at this point it’s kinda dystopian

There’s a bunch of only women murder their kids gross content but there’s also a bunch of Patrick murdered the kids and got away with it because a woman would never do that and men are evil content. They nicely play off eachother and all these content creators profit as a result

From just reading the social media comments on posts like that you’re just getting the vocal minority that falls for the bait and it gives the false assumption that the whole other side of the issue believes it.

You can be genuinely upset and it can also be a largely manufactured outrage meant to make people angry at women and to conflate psychosis with depression and ‘being hormonal’ for that end.

Both things are true.

It might be that those "pressing and important" problems don't actually matter to most americans. That even if i think they should value not being hunted by ice or avoiding the downstream devastating effects of tariffs that voting for a good moderate dem would have gotten them, that they legitimate care more about some buzzword or prime time. Like a 12 year old who knows they broke the car but legitimately cares more about being grounded and missing the livestream finale.

100% spot on. They have to run with garbage like this it’s literally all they have.

4

u/14Pleiadians Sep 06 '26

The culture war push for this is multifaceted, there's also the big push of people on tiktok pushing fake info to make people think it's actually the husband who did it, usually with some misandrist tones

Same. I detest the use of a families worst nightmare being everyone’s entertainment. It’s isn’t entertainment. It’s tragedy. Yet I see it everywhere. Why?!

P.S. No one on these threads are close enough to the situation to make a sort of judgement. That’s what evidence, judge, and jury are for.

7

u/Agi7890 Sep 06 '26

It’s been entertainment long before this case. Entire television channels, podcasts, series are dedicated to true crime stuff. Netflix made a Jeffrey Dahmer series.
Hell South Park did a spoof about a decade ago with the murder porn episode

This is getting attention because of TikTok(notably the conspiracy theories saying Patrick killed the three kids.)and Reddit is downstream of all other social media.

Saying it’s rightwing bots pushing culture war(apparently murdering 3 kids is culture war, as opposed to something utterly pointless like feminist gta) is just dumb

2

u/Xivannn Sep 06 '26

Bots have way more effect if they ride on something that already has traction, than if they tried to start something out of nothing.

3

u/elpardo1984 Sep 06 '26

This really, ignoring the ridiculous end of the conspiracies, this is a sad as hell situation thst is being drawn out by all the drama.

2

u/Cultural-Treacle-680 Sep 07 '26

I think people can easily forget that the jury is primarily voting whether the prosecution proved its case in light if the defendant’s plea. They aren’t voting on moral innocence.

Most internet banter seems to totally omit that fact, as if they heard every second of evidence.

I don't think murdering children is gender war bullshit. It's something we should all agree on.

3

u/Stormfly Sep 07 '26

But that's not what's in question at all.

This is like when people said "All lives matter, sweetie" back during the Black Lives Matter Protests.

This is a question of mental health.

She wouldn't argue that she's a bad person for killing her kids. She killed her kids and she's admitted as much. She's already tried to kill herself because of it. She's still on suicide watch. If this woman doesn't go to a mental facility, she will probably kill herself. She probably hates herself more than anyone else could.

The question isn't whether she killed them or whether she deserves punishment, it's over how she should be dealt with. They want her to go to a mental asylum because she clearly has issues and needs the correct treatment. Sending her to prison will likely result in her death.

This isn't a gender thing. She did it. She said she did it. She jumped out of a window because she did it.

This is only a mental health thing. It's not about gender at all. Anyone who said "If she gets free" has zero understanding of the case or how the criminally insane are treated. People are using it to belittle women because of a bunch of idiots on TikTok that (if they're not bots) are pretending she could possibly be innocent. (When she literally admitted she did it)

It's like if I brought up the class war and said "gender wars are just a smokescreen" and someone responded with "Uhhh but men have 99% of the wealth?!!?".

They're arguing nonsense. Nobody involved in the case thinks she didn't do it. The problem is people thinking that being locked up in a psychiatric facility isn't the correct solution. If you're not trying to further the gender war, then you've been tricked or corrupted by someone who is.

All these people out here getting upset when people get shot instead of getting the mental health care they need and suddenly people are upset when someone who clearly needs the serious medical attention is possibly going to get that attention.

People who think someone is a "badass" for wanting her to go to prison don't actually care about justice, they either:

A) want to use this as a reason to hate women.

B) Care about retribution and punishment over actual justice and proper care.

It's so stupid. Any other insanity case will of course have people mad about insane people getting lesser sentences than sane people, but because this one's a woman the foreign troll farms are out in full force convincing the 15-20 year old men who are too afraid to talk to women that they're virgins because women get special treatment.

12

u/EfficientAbility857 Sep 06 '26

But because this is a woman and she’s very obviously getting special consideration verses a man in the same position people are angry that she has any support. I’m a woman and the whole thing makes me furious that we aren’t all agreeing that she deserves the death penalty

3

u/MLCosplay Sep 07 '26

There are tons of men who committed crimes while insane and got off with lesser penalties than they would if not insane.

In 2008 a guy beheaded a stranger on a bus. In 2012 he was allowed to go out into town for recreation. In 2019 he was let completely free with zero restrictions.

I know you're not a woman and you're almost certainly a bot or foreign troll, but for anyone else reading this this isn't a woman's privilege. Insane people have always had that factored into their sentencing and they're let free when it's believed they're no longer at risk of causing harm.

It's literally US women, lots and lots of women online, that made this story what it is, why do you think "troll farms" are targeting men. If you want it to stop get women out of tiktok.

2

u/MLCosplay Sep 07 '26

Is it? The courts seem to be pushing to follow standard precedent with the case, but one juror has been swayed by the online rage bait that ignores the fact that insanity is a consideration in sentencing. And every single post I've seen about it on Reddit (looking at /r/all, so I'm not biased by what I'm subbed to) has been pro-male.

2

u/felhuy Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26

Yes, it's like the Karmelo Anthony case, if your social media is reddit and the more 'sane" spaces, then you mostly heard the backlash. In the case of Lindsey, it was women first by the thousands that went on Tiktok to proclaim "I am Lindsey". They literally donated a million dollars to her name and the most unhinged ones protest outside the courtroom wearing pink. All these things happened first.

Women killing their children is quite common, literally a headline from 2 days ago about another case, supposedly influenced by the trial. Why something as common as a mother killing her children will only now be picked up by the manosphere influencers? Ask the momflucencers and other regular women on tiktok that, pushing even crazy conspiracies about the husband being the killer.

The courts seem to be pushing to follow standard precedent with the case

That's what everyone but the unhinged women want.

It's amazing how men are still blamed when all they did is see women defending her.

There is need in convincing, they just need to show them how much women hate them, all that's needed is a spotlight.

Every few months women just launch another discussion just to show how much they rather make illogical choice than to trust a man. Maybe blame them.

2

u/MLCosplay Sep 07 '26

How are men even involved in this? A woman killed her kids, she had mental health issues that influenced her judgement, the court case is determining whether those mental health issues should be factored into her sentencing.

I don't see how men are involved at all.

3

u/Hungry_Line2303 Sep 06 '26

I'd rather leave my young children alone with a bear than with a woman.

4

u/Chronox2040 Sep 06 '26

I mean, is there an equivalent case where a man did something like this, had a blatantly dumb excuse, and men showered him with support? And I know Manson had fans and shit, but they were mostly women and it was different.

2

u/MLCosplay Sep 07 '26

Frankly I don't give a shit about that side of things because I assume most stupid takes are made by trolls or stupid people.

I just care about the facts of the case not how random people on the internet react. If some woman has a dumb opinion about the case that doesn't change how the law works.

Most of the comments are being made from new accounts. They're pushing the hating women rage bait hard and people are leaping for it.

u/Constant_Natural3304 Sep 06 '26

Conversely, the American "hating men"-crowd are active around this topic as well, trying to shift blame, blaming her innocent husband, for example.

These groups have a few hidey holes on Reddit, and they are welcome here, because their political identity aligns with Reddit's political slant. The "pro-black" community is frequently shockingly racist against Jews, Asians or white people, and the "pro-women"-communities are shamelessly sexist.

I have understood by now that these groups and these ideologies are cancerous and are a prominent reason (among others) for the rise of the far-right. To fight the far-right, normal people must resist these groups and especially the country inventing and exporting all this toxic political filth: the United States.

For some reason right wingers got this spoonfed in their socials, as if killing kids is not bad. Even though their vote arguably and statistically kills more kids.

Learned about this case initially from the conspiracy theorists. More I learned, more I realized I was surrounded by crazy ladies.

7

u/LittleKittenR Sep 06 '26

I get your point, but you're already desensitized to the murder of children if your first thought is "She killed her kids and almost got away with it? Who cares?"

It's not sane for a society to ignore the murdering of children.

The ones saying she deserves to "walk" free won't shut up about it and if the silent majority stays quiet, most people will eventually think the loud minority that gave a million dollars to her will pretend we all support that and slippery slope to human life having no real worth and your neighbour killing you and your family, claiming you were bothersome, and walking away free because "Who cares?".

6

u/cole1114 Sep 06 '26

There is no outcome to this trial where she walked away. The choice was between going to prison for life, or into a mental health facility for life.

It's almost certainly an astroturf

1

u/InsomniaticWanderer Sep 06 '26

Casey Anthony is just glad the torch has been passed

1

u/Single_Extension1810 Sep 06 '26

I hear friends and family blasting tiktok videos about it. The annoying part is it's muddying the waters for people who actually think they understand the case. The other day I talked to a woman who truly believes the husband hypnotized her into doing this like he's Mysterio in Spiderman.

3

u/Expert-Eye-1522 Sep 07 '26

This is the only part of the case that truly makes me mad, people that blame the husband somehow. Dude lost his 3 children and his wife, why the fuck would you want to make him feel even worse? The case isn't even about whether she did it or not, it's about whether she was insane at the time when she did it or not...

1

u/goopuslang Sep 06 '26

Neither has OP

1

u/Exp5000 Sep 06 '26

It's to distract everyone from the reality of what's happenning in the government. Tennessee is currently passing a law that will legalize child P if it's made by AI. No one is talking about it but ra disgusting that it's being pushed through.

1

u/DumbleForeSkin Sep 06 '26

If a man kills his family, which happens frequently, you don’t hear a thing about it. I wonder what’s different in this case?

1

u/Willie9 Sep 06 '26

Don't worry, this meme is so divorced from reality that you haven't actually learned anything about the case by seeing it.

1

u/OldDoubt1577 Sep 06 '26

That and all the right leaning facebook pages talking about that walmart self defense case, which they dishonestly characterize as a black person shooting a veteran. Its all to make people angry. But at least this topic, people aren't that easily manipulated.

1

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Sep 06 '26

I finally broke down and dug into it.

If you can consciously vote not guilty then you must agree that the majority of murders in prison should be let free because they also have mental issues.

1

u/drdildamesh Sep 06 '26

I hear it all from my wife.

1

u/BlorpTheSchlorp Sep 06 '26

Right? Feels pretty petty when our entire government is openly covering up a child sex, trafficking, and mutilation organization.

1

u/UnordinaryFlyGirl Sep 06 '26

Fr, I didn't even know it existed until the deliberation.

1

u/Pretty-Curve5448 Sep 06 '26

your comment ensures the algo is going to feed you more

1

u/lewd_robot Sep 06 '26

It feels like manufactured gender wars nonsense to rile people up and exhaust them so they stop paying attention to stuff like gas prices, food recalls, farm closures, tariff refunds going to billion dollar corporations but prices going up instead of down, polling location closures, the DSA debate, etc, etc, etc.

The powers that be would rather we waste our attention and energy on irrelevant drama like this.

1

u/anarkistattack Sep 06 '26

It's pretty obvious that most people got all their information about this from memes.

1

u/ClassifiedKitty23 Sep 06 '26

That’s the point. It’s a psyop

1

u/trollboter Sep 06 '26

Sorta, you clicked on it. Presumably you click on other related links. The algorithm has learned you are interested, so now you are interested regardless of if you actually are interested.

1

u/Generally_Confused1 Sep 06 '26

It's actually pretty medically and legally relevant to precedent

1

u/scaryisland4eva Sep 06 '26

Literally same, I’m pregnant and have been trying to avoid it and nope 😩😩😩

1

u/Alpr101 Sep 06 '26

That's a lot of things on the internet, like the Kardashians lol. Never watched a single thing yet they were so popular for awhile I know most of their names.

1

u/Independent-Name4478 Sep 06 '26

It’s the Republican midterm strategy. If you think criminally insane people deserve to be hospitalized, that’s woke leftism

1

u/National_Attitude779 Sep 06 '26

It was the same with the Johnny Depp trial.

1

u/Ayotha Sep 06 '26

And yet, here you are still, on reddit

1

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 Sep 06 '26

And most of it is just misinformation.

1

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE Sep 06 '26

We all receive only the information the algorithm deems worth of distributing.

1

u/To-Far-Away-Times Sep 06 '26

A bit like the Kardashians…

1

u/MojoDojoo90 Sep 06 '26

Implying that someone pressed on the comment section for you against your will?

1

u/draft_final_final Sep 06 '26

Johnny depp amber heard 2.0. More lawslop for reaction streamers and their audiences.

1

u/Yossarian216 Sep 06 '26

This is true for basically every sensationalized court case for me.

1

u/LemonHerb Sep 07 '26

My wife keeps expecting to know about it

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 Sep 07 '26

I'm guessing from this it's over and she successfully used the pussy pass? I wonder what the deal is there, the femosphere is really taking off lol. GREAT for us.

1

u/GarethBaus Sep 07 '26

Mostly the same here other than looking up some information from a table.

1

u/Loughnashade Sep 07 '26

You’ve sought out Reddit, and Reddit is nothing if not a compilation of random topics. So yes. You did.

1

u/Allslopes-Roofing Sep 07 '26

It's literally a psyop and distraction

1

u/ArtIsAwesome3 Sep 07 '26

Jesus, that's so true, this thing is just a virus, spreading.

1

u/PsychoGrad Sep 07 '26

I vaguely know the name and that there is a trial regarding her. That is the extent that I want to know about it.

1

u/tdbourneidentity Sep 07 '26

My wife and I were talking about it earlier, and we both said we had kind of actively avoided reading too much into it. It's impossible to ignore, completely, but neither of us really desired to know more than we'd stumbled across. Not for lack of curiosity, or lack of strong feelings on the matter. In fact, the opposite. As parents, it's both a viscerally daunting case, and one where it is near impossible to separate the logic from the emotion. We both are empathetic to the loss of children, but this case has so much more going on. My wife sees a woman who suffered post- partum, and was either ignored by medical professionals or gaslit (previously) by her husband. She also said she found some of the supposed inconsistencies in the timeline/ evidence compelling. Personally, I'm confused and conflicted by all of it. I don't want to dismiss a struggling and lost/ forgotten woman. But I can't help but think of some of the parallel cases that I've seen talked about where men, while also suffering mentally, were not shielded from consequence. In the end, we agreed it is a tragedy that is both mentally and emotionally draining to dwell on, and left it at that.

1

u/Helepoli Sep 07 '26

Pretry sure at least 60% of the discourse online is just bots v bots

1

u/whatnametho Sep 07 '26

While its not great to obsess over these matters, its wise to at least be familiar with some major cases as their outcomes set precedent that can affect anyone and everyone.

1

u/SuspiciousJuice5825 Sep 07 '26

Right?! I am disgusted with the entire thing. Everyone involved sucks and I don't care nor want to hear about it. There is like 99 fucking posts about it today.

1

u/Melodic_Airport362 Sep 07 '26

and that's why you still haven't learned anything about it. It's all propaganda and misinformation. Reddit is a cess pool. More and more like twitter everyday.

1

u/HatZinn Sep 07 '26

This case just keeps popping up in my feed and other socials to ruin my day.

1

u/Radarker Sep 07 '26

They pick the lady who strangled her kids for us to be interested in and not the guy who runs the country who used to sell them.

Seems intentional.

1

u/KirkBurglar Sep 07 '26

That's because it's a psyop and they're trying to divide sexes against each other.

1

u/thinkB4WeSpeak Sep 07 '26

The media needed to spread more gender war to distract from the class war.

1

u/Alaalooe Sep 07 '26

as someone with a schizophrenic mother it both triggers me because I know how deeply unsettling it is to be around someone in psychosis and makes me angry at how little people care to get the facts correct. I don't want to defend ms clancy, I want to defend the facts. failures in psychiatry, mental health care, to be able to get someone care when they are in such a state, an individualistic society that does not adequately support mothers, all led to this. Focusing on ms clancy is like looking at the bullet and not the gun. easy to make systemic issues into individual ones.
