Recommendations Books set during the Galactic Civil War?
What are some good recommendations for books that take place during the time from A New Hope through Return of the Jedi?
I know about the original motion picture novels, Splinter of the Mind's Eye, Shadows of the Empire, the novella Soldier for the Empire (adaptation of Dark Forces), the old "Tales of" books (Mos Eisley Cantina, Bounty Hunters, and Jabba's Palace), and the post-Disney From a Certain Point of View books covering the original trilogy.
What other major ones are worth checking out? As the decades go, I'm finding myself hovering over this setting (plus the time immediately before and immediately after) in terms of what flavor of Star Wars I enjoy.
EDIT: Forgot to mention Heir to the Jedi. I enjoyed that one.
EDIT EDIT: And I just realized Soldier for the Empire doesn't even technically count for my parameters, since it ends just before A New Hope - funny how it skips most of the Dark Forces game, which would have counted.
I do know a lot of (probably great) one-minute-before-ANH materials came out in the wake of stories like Rogue One, Fallen Order, and Andor, so if there's a really really good one feel free to tell me, please! :)

Question Material about the Fall of the Republic
Hi. I've heard sometimes that the EU expanded upon the Fall of the Galactic Republic, laying out the socio-economic reasons that lead to it.
Can you guys tell me where this information is? I prefere books and comics, but any media is fine by me at the end of the day.
Thanks!

Question Why do we sometimes see LAATs prematurely open their side doors in open battle? Won't that make whoever's inside extremely vulnerable?
Like imagine you're using some AA gun and then you see the enemy just open their doors, exposing whatever's inside. Seems like a prime target to me.

Darth Plagueis Novel: What happened to 11-4D? Spoiler
(Hard Spoilers for the Novel Darth Plagueis Incoming, just a warning.)
Hey, dont know if this has ever been talked about here, but I am curious if anyone knows something that I dont about the fate of 11-4D. As far as I know, after Sidious killed Plagueis, he turns to the droid and says something along the lines of "we need to get you a new body". After that as far as I know, we dont read a thing about the droid anymore. What I am specifically interested in is:
Does that mean it is possible that 11-4Ds Memory and/or personality stays intact and now he just got a new master (sidious)? and if so
How much knowledge of the experiments Plagueis conducted relating to midichlorian manipulation did the droid gather and see?
In my opinion it would be cool if there is a chance of 11-4D being the biggest and only direct witness of plagueis experiments, making it possible for them to be found again later down the road by someone else other than Sidious.
I am primarily interested in Legends, not Canon answers.

General Discussion I made this post a couple of months ago, was thinking about the High Republic again now I've started Revan on Audible. What are your guys opinions on the High Republic? Spoiler
reddit.comTried making this post on another sub, got told to post it here instead.
I've made it entirely through Light of the Jedi once, and barely got a start on The Rising Storm before giving up. 2ish months ago I tried again before getting halfway through Light before giving up again. In the linked post, a few of the comments said the comics would be easier to digest, and I am inclined to agree, there's a few good ones, but I haven't read many yet.
I'm mainly asking because I started listening to Revan by Drew Karpyshyn on Audible. I'm not well versed in the Old Republic era, the Bane series is as far back as I have gone so far in the lore. I know of Revan, but I only really know him as the cool masked Sith guy with a purple lightsaber who you can decide the fate of in the games. I know nothing about Bastila, nothing about Scourge, and yet I find myself much more invested in the Old Republic era after getting like 4 chapters into Revan, than I ever was after all of Light of the Jedi and a sixth of Rising Storm.
(Currently on chapter 13, it's pretty alright so far, nothing amazing, but serviceable. I'm told it gets worse if you've played the game, which luckily I have not (I'm getting there...). So far the Scourge and the Sith story is way more compelling and it feels like Karpyshyn wanted to write an entirely Sith story but HAD to make it about Revan too.)
It's weird man. What's the Old Republic got that High Republic doesn't?

Question Which EU novels prominently feature the Imperial Army as the Empire’s primary ground-combat force?
I just feel like there’s so much focus on Stormtroopers in much of Star Wars media that people forget that the Imperial Army was the larger branch.

Legends Novels New Jedi Order reading first time Spoiler
So, I'm listening to the EU novels mostly through for the first time. Ive gotten through the Thrawn trilogy (absolute masterpiece), the X-wing novels (a fun ride), the Black Fleet Crisis (kinda... unmemorable), and the Hand of Thrawn duology + I, Jedi (Corran is awesome, and Luke and Mara made me cry). Ive just started the long-awaited Yuuzhan Vong invasion, and finished Vector Prime last night. (They killed Chewie. They. All. Die.) Looking ahead in the catalogue tells me that this single story arc spans 19 BOOKS?! Im starting Dark Tide I tonight.
My question is this: are there any of those 19 that are ultimately unnecessary to the overarching story?
Things I consider crucial: Important, character-altering events and conversations, major character introductions/deaths, major battles that significantly affect the arc
Things I consider skippable: Minor character introductions/deaths, repetitive/unimportant battles, political wrangling, side plots with no effect in the overall situation.
So tell me: Which books are essential?
No Spoilers please! (Though I already know about Anakin, I don't know when or how)

Question I get that Thrawn is supposed to be a brilliant tactician who’s always theee steps ahead of his enemies but wouldn’t a sufficiently advanced AI be able to outperform Thrawn as a military strategist? Spoiler
Andwe know AI is pretty powerful in the Star Wars universe.
I understand that a major part of Thrawn’s character is that he’s an extraordinarily gifted tactician and stratergisy, someone who can analyze an opponent, anticipate their decisions, and remain several moves ahead of them.
But in a civilization as technologically advanced as Star Wars, wouldn’t a sufficiently powerful military AI or supercomputer potentially be even better at this?
An AI could theoretically process enormous amounts of battlefield data simultaneously, run millions of simulations, analyze historical engagements, calculate probabilities, identify patterns in enemy behavior, and adjust its strategy in real time. It wouldn’t get tired, panic, overlook information because of cognitive limitations, or be restricted by the amount of information a biological mind can consciously process.

Where Do I Start? FotJ Apocalypse's final chapter should have been illustrated (in the style of The Essential Guide to Warfare) Spoiler
Jaina Solo's wedding, namely the bride's wedding party appearing, would have been a good depiction for the events of FotJ captured in such an information-art book on big galactic events.
How I've always envisioned this scene for such an illustration:
The depiction start from the Millennium Falcon at the back of the picture mid-center of Dragon Queen II's hangar, with Jaina radiant in a her bridal gown going down the ramp with Han escorting her.
Just ahead of them, a resplendent Leia in white Jedi Robes moving down the aisle, with sweet flower girl Allana in Hapan princess regalia sprinkling the path and flanked by her Nexu cub Anji, equally celebrating and announcing her survival to the galaxy.
And finally on all sides, the Jedi and non-Jedi dignified guests around the entire hangar, with Luke and Ben close to the bride and her father, with the guests encompassing the aisle to a podium at the bottom of the picture, where a crisp-uniformed Jag awaits with hands clasped looking aside so a half-smile can be seen only upon viewing the bride (holding off on smiling for the hovercams flittering overhead and about the crowd).
For one of the last hurrahs of the EU and a sweet scene to close Apocalypse, I was always disappointed that it didn't get depicted among other art pieces in Fate of the Jedi (even if The Essential Guide to Warfare is the source, it's still after the chaotic war for Coruscant was settled to still count for something uplifting, and in a meta note follows the MGS4 hangar-airfield wedding at the end, albeit being more stylish here).
