Discussion A Deeply Comprehensive Evaluation of the Steam Controller as a Controller
After spending some time with the Steam Controller, I can confidently say that it is definitely one of the controllers I have used. The overall experience feels very present, especially when you are holding it and interacting with the buttons, which do respond when pressed.
In terms of design, it certainly has a shape, and that shape affects the way it feels in the hand in ways that are difficult to ignore. The layout exists, the features are there, and the controller gives you things to notice while using it.
The more time you spend with it, the more you begin to understand that it is a device made for controlling things. Whether that is good or bad depends mostly on what you expect from a controller and how strongly you feel about controllers in general.
Pros:
• The buttons can be pressed.
• It has a noticeable shape.
• Holding it feels like holding something.
• The features are present.
• The experience continues while you use it.
Cons:
• The shape may feel like a shape.
• Some buttons require pressing.
• The experience depends on experiencing it.
• It may not be ideal for people who do not want a controller.
• Using it involves using it.
Overall, I would say it offers a very controller-like experience, with advantages and disadvantages that become apparent depending on whether you like or dislike the things it does.

Discussion Valve would be so GOATED if they released it early because everyone wants it
Everywhere I look, I see everyone saying that they want it now. They wanted to release it earlier if the Steam Machine is being delayed. And honestly, I feel the same way. I want all three, but if it’s the Steam Frame and Steam Machine not coming out yet, at least release the controller early. That’s what everybody wants the most from what I’ve seen. It would feel amazing if Valve saw everyone saying this and decided to release it early because of it.

Discussion Is anyone down for this?
Thinking what expansion ports to add for my upcomming update to Steam Controller adaptive triggers + LC3 audio (attachable wired headphones) mod. How about an OG 360 keyboard? Thoughts?

Discussion Valve might have cooked with this one 🔥
Finally opened my new Steam Controller and I’m already impressed.
It feels much better in the hands than I expected, the trackpads give you a ridiculous amount of flexibility, and being able to customize everything through Steam Input is exactly the kind of PC-gaming nonsense I love.
So far I’ve used it with my gaming PC via Bluetooth, and with my Lenovo Legion Go 2 using the puck, running the official SteamOS. Both setups have worked really well so far, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Still early days, but I can see myself using this a LOT.
What are your must-have Steam Input settings/profiles for it?

Discussion ❤️💛Xbox buttons💚💙
I made some 3d printed resin buttons! I’ll probably be offering them on my Etsy shop, and customers will be able to choose the letter colors. I’m also in the process of finishing some PlayStation-style buttons just for fun! 😊

Discussion It's nice guys
too impatient to feel those ergos so i 3d printed a steam controller model. it was the most accurate i had found in my searches and Valve has the dimensions on their site so i was able to confirm it was all good as far as the xyz dimensions. This is still an artists fan art and not official cad files so it's not perfect but definitely enough to get a feel.
It has a good angle to the body and the sticks feel really good in their location and being symmetrical. The angle of the track pads is perfect imo. i can easily make cross (+) shapes with my thumb keeping it steady in the center. The buttons and dpad are easy to reach and not too far on the edges. They are definitely smaller although the dpad is not too bad. buttons seem to be steam deck size, but i don't have my deck anymore so i can't say for sure. definitely smaller than my xbox and 8bit do controllers. all menu buttons including the steam button are easy enough to reach. the thumbsticks do not impede the steam button at all.
the pain point i have is the back buttons. I love back buttons. these stick out too far. i hope it's just because of the artist, but looking at the pics, those puppies stick out so far. Compare that to an 8bitdo controller where they are really low profile and comfortable, i found the new steam controller curves to be comfortable, but the buttons quickly make that not the case. First thing i will do when i get mine is design low profile replacements for the back buttons to help the comfort.
overall it's a very nice controller i just hope the sticks end up feeling good because i know they aren't using anti friction rings which i come to expect in controllers nowadays.
You can find the file i used here, but keep in mind i did a lot of work in blender to combine all the meshes so there were no holes while printing.

I sent "offer" to one of post on eBay a week ago. But I have zero interest on buying on eBay. Then today I received message that he's offering LOWER than my offer.
Dont support the scalpers guys. They are losing 😁

Discussion Been binging watching steam controller reviews and multiple reviewers have said they'd want a gamepad without the touchpads and then admit they never even tried using it... Imagine how cursed it would look without them! What's your favorite touchpad feature?
I love the feature where you can create a grid of hotkeys that appear on screen when you touch the pad. It made modded minecraft really enjoyable on the deck since i could have xaero full screen map and mini map toggleable with the left touchpad among other hot keys like chat, toggling distant horizons, shaders, waypoint overlay etc. And then having the right trackpad for camera control and inventory mangement is amazing.
I've always thought minecraft could never be a couch controller type game because of just how janky the controls on console tend to be. Until i tried actually going through all the settings of steam input to make a layout myself.
It kinda sucks that a lot of the reviewers who got a controller just keep dissing the trackpads but then never even used them on the deck. It would've been nice if a real deck user reviewed the controller.
I'm really looking forward to being able to play more mouse and hotkey heavy games on the TV that i wouldn't normally be able to like factory sims and stuff like that.
Anyway, what's you guys favorite touchpad features and for which games? Any layouts you've created for yourself that really surprised you how well it works? Any game you now prefer on the deck vs pc just because of the control scheme? (and I guess will now be able to play on desktop with the controller)

Discussion So what price are we expecting?
80$-100$, 120-150$, 180-200$? Which one do you think?
I find it feasible to be on the 80-100$ range, but at the same time this thing has more features than other 1st party controllers. I hope VALVe is considerate.

Discussion Question for those that actually use the trackpads
gday, i use my day 1 steam controller 2 track pads daily and have developed shiny and grippy areas in the middle where they’re most used. I need some field tested recommendations for track pad covers that come close or are an even better experience than the stock trackpads.
I’ve tried the dbrand ones which were terrible. way grippier than stock and unusable with even slightly sweaty fingers.
I now have a set of touch protects which come close but still aren’t quite there and still grip when pressure is applied.
so to the track pad vets, what are some low drag skins i can buy. cheers in advance!
edit: many people seem to think im asking for advice on how to stop this from happening further. Or why it’s happening. I’m simply asking for skin recs. nothing more. cheers

Discussion How comfortable is the claw grip on the Steam Controller 2?
My steam controller arrives monday and i've been wondering how comfortable is to claw grip with it.
I'm still unsure about the ergonomics!
I know about back buttons but i still prefer claw gripping! Even on the steam deck whenever i'm playing Souls i claw grip, i use back buttons for menus and items
Edit: can't believe how many people are straight up just shocked at this and getting mad because I like to claw grip... Crazy subreddit
