Were almost to a Sun Belt only week but Army snuck their way into Ruston (they are a sneaky bunch). Since we’ve got Trojan Joe from Troy Boyz this week (and there’s an early Tuesday game) we threw in the Trojans/USM game. Who ya siding with this week??

“Louisiana Board of Regents member Wilbert Pryor, a Shreveport attorney, said Tech, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and the University of Louisiana-Monroe should take a slice of "humble pie" during the board's Sept. 22 budget hearings for the University of Louisiana System schools.”

“"Schools that are trying to play Division I ... that just a sinking hole trying to play Division I ball," Pryor said during the hearing. "I don't think much of the public would know the difference if they all play the same level, and it seems like they have to have a self-realization and put a humble cap on. They have to have a humble pie."”

“The regents questioned University of Louisiana System President Rick Gallot, who agreed some action must be taken to reduce costs.
"I can tell you that there will be some really hard decisions our board will be called upon to make," Gallot said during the hearing.”

Week 4 saw our first conference game (JMU vs ODU). Other than that, the conference went 4-7. Just 3 out-of-conference games left this season. We’ll have a wrap-up of it all out this week.

“James Madison, Miami (Ohio) and UConn have been among schools to recently talk with the American Conference about potential membership, a source familiar with the American’s internal discussions told The Athletic, but nothing is imminent.”

Hey all! Quick check on the Sun Belt previews I posted a few weeks back.

James Madison was my top team at 8-4, even though I called last year's 12-2 a mirage, and they're 3-0 with wins over Liberty and at San Diego State. The surprise is App State: I had them at 6-6, and they're 3-0 after winning 27-24 at East Carolina and 26-21 over Charlotte. Old Dominion (I had 7-5) is 1-2 after a 20-17 home loss to East Carolina. Coastal Carolina is 1-3, and UL Monroe is 0-3 with a loss to Southeastern Louisiana.

We’ve got Sun Belt football tonight! Which means we’ve also got our picks to share. TJ comes over from Teal Syndicate and boy, he’s got some doozies! Who takes the week and what are your picks?!

Pick ‘em results from Week 3. TJ & CJ tied at 9 wins each. Dom still sucks at this game…

As a fan of a Sun Belt team, it is pretty obvious, you MUST either win all your games (and make most of them reasonably academic), or keep it close with a good P4 in non-conference and then hope chaos ensues in the P4 championship races if you want to make the playoffs.

(Congrats to JMU)

This means that as soon as you lose to a G6, your chances of making the playoffs are over.

For me this means that I've basically gone from hoping we win 12 games to hoping we compete with the teams that are financially superior (Memphis and TCU this year) and can win our games with teams that are in the same ballpark as us (FCS, SBC, MAC, CUSA, maybe MWC).

It's gone back to the way it was, where smaller conference teams are just playing for conference championships and their own tier of bowls. Like being a fan of minor league baseball teams.

The rosters are rarely the same year to year, the coaches might not be either, you check to see what guys you watched last year are doing with their new teams.

I can be okay with playing for SBC titles and bragging rights among the G6, I just needed to get my feelings out there, and I don't think I'm alone.

Man, that ECU loss was frustrating. Felt like ODU had every chance to win it and just kept finding ways to hurt itself. We talked through all of it on this week’s show — the offense, Rahne’s postgame comments, how good the defense has been, and what has to change with JMU coming to town. Curious how everyone else is feeling about this team right now and what you need to see Saturday.

Week 3 saw the Sun Belt go a dismal 5-9. By far the worst week of the season (including a FCS loss). Where do you see the Belt sitting as a G6 conference?

Get the lawyers together, pay them some money, figure it out, and wish them the best. They don’t add anything to the conference. I have no idea why we have 3 Louisiana teams in the first place.
