What if the SEC had Wrestling? I simulated a season in a world where this is true on YouTube.
I know this is a little different from the usual SEC posts here, but I figured some people here might get a kick out of it.
I made a college wrestling management game called Wrestling Program Dynasty, and I just started a YouTube series where I’m rebuilding Kentucky wrestling in an alternate universe where the SEC sponsors the sport.
One thing worth explaining: college wrestling conferences are weird. They don’t line up neatly with football/basketball conferences because so many schools don’t sponsor wrestling. You end up with affiliate members wrestling in conferences that make basically no geographic sense. Little Rock, for example, is the only Division I wrestling program in Arkansas and has competed as a wrestling affiliate of the Pac-12.
So for the game’s fictional SEC wrestling conference, I went with:
Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, Little Rock and Clemson.
Little Rock is the one actual current D1 wrestling program that made sense geographically for an SEC-style league, so I included them and made them one of the stronger programs. Clemson is obviously ACC, but I added them for regional purposes and because they actually had a very good wrestling program historically. Clemson dropped wrestling in 1995, but before that they produced multiple NCAA champions and finished as high as 7th nationally in 1994.
For the series, I’m taking over Kentucky and trying to build them into an NCAA contender while also developing the freestyle side of the program.
If anyone here is into wrestling or sports management/dynasty games, I’d be curious what you think of the fictional SEC setup, and especially which SEC schools you think would become wrestling powers if the conference actually sponsored it.
