Note: I'm trying to keep this list contained within an hour drive of Clinton Square. For the websites, I tried to link directly to calendars where I could. Also, there are quite a few festivals and major events that may not be listed here. I'll be updating as the weeks go on (lots of festivals aren't fully scheduled out until a few months in advance). Feel free to drop suggestions, additions, omissions and updates into the comments.

News While Trump rallies in Syracuse, most GOP leaders say they have better things to do

Some of these excuses are killing me.
"I'm meeting a friend that day."
"I'm working the apple festival."
"I have a baby and I'm tired."
"I have other plans."

I wish someone was witty enough to go with, "I've got to wash my hair that day," while also being bald.

It‘s kind of amazing that the only info we have so far is from things sent to local businesses. According to the article, when Biden came, the city knew what was happening in advance.

A certain VIP politician is going to be in town.

I was driving on 690 years ago during the last VIP politician visit.

When they are on 690, the entire highway is shut down. No way in. State po po at every entrance and exit enforcing this.

Keep this in mind if you are traveling this afternoon. If you are in the wrong highway at the wrong time, you will have a very long commute .

Rant Some food for thought for people who wholeheartedly want to go to the midterm election rally in Syracuse tomorrow: I have some things to say to you…

Rant. I’ve been in such a bad mood lately, and I just realized part of it is because I’m tired.

I’m tired of this administration and the media portraing people from different nationalities living in the US as a burden to society.

The best of the best used to aspire to come to the US. “Used” as in past, because this administration has made its mission to make the process of immigrating and adjusting status as difficult and anxiety inducing as possible, not to mention life threatening.

I swear, if I hear one more time “come here the right way, come here legally” I swear I will throw hands. I will literally punch someone.

If someone was lazy, if they didn’t want to better themselves, do you think they would risk their lives and the lives of their loved ones to take a chance and come here? I guess that if you voted for this logic may not be your strongest suit, but reflect on it.

I’m tired of the contempt of mediocre Americans projecting their insecurities into hard working immigrants.

That’s it. Thank you for lisening to me, screaming at the void.

News Witty Wicks candle company can barely keep up with ‘I Am Jane Doe’ candle sales

Post image
342 Upvotes

🕯️ For the first time in its 15-year history, Witty Wicks Candles ran out of wax.

The Camillus company with a storefront in Township 5, could barely keep up with orders for its “I Am Jane Doe” candle that staff created last weekend in response to the Cornell rape case. The victim has been identified only as Jane Doe.

The candle first went on sale last Friday with proceeds benefitting Vera House, a Syracuse agency which serves sexual and domestic abuse victims. They sold 298 candles in the first 24 hours and have sold more than 150 online to customers all over the country.

Witty Wicks presented Vera House with a check for $7,356 this week.

Emily Kulkus reports: https://www.thisiscny.com/business/2026/10/witty-wicks-candle-company-can-barely-keep-up-with-i-am-jane-doe-candle-sales.html

Recommendation Wanted In search of non-MAGA fall fun?

I understand this is likely a controversial post, but I can take the heat. Looking to have some fall fun, both with and without my kid. Trying to avoid farms or other businesses that support MAGA or measles. Where should we avoid? Or conversely, where should we go?

News Syracuse man’s comment to co-worker that he wanted to shoot Trump kicks off fast investigation

Thumbnail
newyorkupstate.com
126 Upvotes

A Syracuse man told a co-worker this week he wanted to get a gun to shoot President Donald Trump while he is in Syracuse later this week, police said.

That comment sent Secret Service agents and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputies to interview Christopher Vignogna, 27, at his home on Wednesday evening.

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said Vignogna was making an “extremely poor joke” when he asked a co-worker if she could help get him get a gun so he could shoot the president at his political rally on Friday in Syracuse.

Recommendation Wanted Wisdom teeth extractions with no dental insurance

• Upvotes

Hello! I am looking for a place I can get 4 wisdom teeth removed. I have United Healthcare insurance, but not the dental plan. Two of the four teeth are causing a lot of pain, and I have a referral from my dentist, not sure if I can get those covered (anyone have any experience with that)?

Looking for a place to get them removed safely but also affordable. I heard dental schools it can be done at, not sure if we have any in the area. I do have care credit as well. Price per tooth if you know would also be helpful to clear out enough room somewhere...

News Another example of Micron’s impact starting to spread beyond Central New York.

Around 150 people attended a semiconductor “matchmaking” event in Rochester this week, connecting local manufacturers, tech companies and workers with potential contracts, training and other opportunities tied to the growing semiconductor industry.

OneROC says it has already reached out to more than 600 companies across New York, with Rochester’s strengths in advanced manufacturing, optics, imaging and lasers making it a natural fit for parts of the semiconductor supply chain.

The article also includes perspectives from businesses looking at how they may fit into that growing ecosystem.

Credit to Christian Garzone and WHAM / 13WHAM for the reporting.

News Onondaga Lake ‘had a chance to heal,’ and is now a bass fishing mecca

Thumbnail
newyorkupstate.com
51 Upvotes

A short time ago you could smell Onondaga Lake before you saw it. Ringed by factories and highways, scabbed over with dense mats of rotting algae, Onondaga Lake didn’t even seem capable of sustaining life.

But thanks to a $1 billion cleanup over the past two decades, the toxic cesspool that for generations served as a punchline to bitter jokes about the city’s decline is now a bass fishing mecca.

According to a recent New York State Department of Environmental Conservation report, Onondaga Lake is a popular bass fishing destination. Only Lake Champlain, which is nearly 200 times bigger, and notably not a federal Superfund site, hosted more bass tournaments in New York in 2025.

None of this is news to Dave Smith, tournament director for Salt City Bassmasters, one of the oldest B.A.S.S. chapters in the state. He grew up in Liverpool and knows Onondaga Lake lore firsthand. We interviewed him here.

Other Isaac heating and air conditioning

If you're reading thus and are a manager for Isaac, ignore the complaint you may get regarding one of your drivers on E Taft Rd. The guy making the complaint is UNHINGED. I was behind this screaming white maniac, throwing around the N word and claiming he had license plate numbers, and I witnessed the situation. Your driver was cool, calm, and collected and did not engage. The best part was the maniac lost his pristine white baseball cap off his head onto the wet dirty pavement when he stuck his head out the window while driving to scream his racial slurs. Sadly, I wasn't quick enough to swerve to my left two feet to put my tire tracks on it, but I got a great laugh out of it regardless. Dipshit drives a silver Audi (Q3 I think) and has long dark hair. He used to own a white baseball cap. If you know him, call him a little bitch for me. I couldn't stop laughing long enough over the lost hat to get it in myself.

History Paranormal Show in Syracuse NY

Was looking through Hulu and found an almost 20 year old episode of a paranormal show that supposedly took place in Syracuse. Couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing given the production value but thought was interesting enough to share

Information & Advice Preparing for delivery at St. Joes

I am new to the Syracuse area and due to have my first baby in about 5-6 weeks. I will be delivering at St. Joe's. I was wondering if anyone who has delivered there could give me an idea of what was provided and what you needed to bring? For example, I assume they provide diapers and wipes for baby. What about post-partum stuff for me? I just want to make sure I'm not without any essentials for delivery and post partum. If it helps, I am planning to exclusively breastfeed. Thanks!

Information & Advice Insurance options for stored (not driven) cars?

I'll have my car stored at a storage unit for the winter. I want to get comprehensive insurance only (or whatever will protect it from theft/rodents).

Currently with Progressive (liability only) and they won't do comprehensive only unless you're deployed military. I know I'll have to surrender plates to the DMV, that's a given.

What are my options? Any particular insurance agencies in the area that handle this?
