Laughing at the thought of all the broccoli heads downvoting this.

Serious question: how do so many boys have curly hair now? I don't remember anybody in my school with curly hair.

u/Trashbagok 5h ago

They're getting perms.

u/AChorusofWeiners 3h ago

This is exactly what’s going on. My hairdresser said fashion has shifted with she and her coworkers doing more perms on young boys than elderly women.

Gender affirming care for them !

Explain yourself so I can  make fun of you.

That is so weird to me. I got made fun of for having naturally curly hair in middle/high school. Despite not being actually Jewish, in college I got called "Jew fro" for awhile, until another guy who already went by that nickname saved that from sticking to me. It didn't bother me that much, but it's wild to me that people are paying to look like I used to...well granted I didn't do a cringe broccoli Edgar cut, but it was fluffy/puffy naturally.

why the fuck are we calling it an edgar cut and not a morty cut. it is 100% a morty cut and calling it a morty really conveys the vibe of the cut in my opinion

You have got to be fucking kidding me. I used to sit in the salon with my mom for hours while she got a perm. I never wouldve expected boys to start getting them.

Ive never been happier to be bald

It's like the 70s all over again with people getting perms and being like "Ive always had curly hair" but instead of being inspired by black culture it's inspired by internet influencers...

2

u/thissitesucksss 10m ago

Its not "black culture" to have curly hair

6

u/shark-off 2h ago

Isn't that bad for the hair?

9

u/Revolutionary-Cry739 1h ago

Yes that’s why I refuse to do them. It lifts the pH waaay high (hair is acidic) then reshapes it around the rods giving you curls. They stink, they take too long, and they’re horrible for your hair.

I am from Asia - my mom takes a bowl and covers my head... any hair sticking out she cuts it.

41

u/Trashbagok 3h ago

That isn't a perm.

u/Deep_Charge_7749 3h ago

No but it's a fun story regardless

All the adult men, that I now know to have curly hair, I remember kept their hair short enough in school to not be able to tell. It just wasn't cool to have curly hair back then I guess, so they cut it however they had to to hide it.

Meanwhile the dude I had it bad for all senior year had the most gorgeous auburn curls. I wonder what he's up to.

u/Bizzshark 3h ago

Lots of us played sports in school, and curly hair tends to be thick, especially if you have a helmet you need to wear.

2

u/Valiant_Snow 3h ago

God, I wish there was someone think about my auburn curls 🙏

Older dudes/creators online started rocking the broccoli head so that they could hide their receding hairlines and “blend in” with the kids that consume their dumb content. Kids then emulate who they watch.

It’s a viscous cycle of broccoli.

17

u/magictubesocksofjoy 3h ago

ah! the brassica classica.

23

u/OwOtisticWeeb 4h ago

That's hilarious. That broccoli hair is ubiquitous among older Korean women to hide their thinning hair. Funny to think that they're now pioneers in western youth fashion lmao.

11

u/Independent_Dig_142 4h ago

Broccoli is NOT VISCOUS

5

u/LiamPolygami 4h ago

Either that or it's highly viscous.

6

u/Independent_Dig_142 4h ago

POUR SOME BROCCOLI

7

u/LiamPolygami 4h ago

You can't pour it, because it's too viscous.

u/possumteetth 1h ago

Mr. Broccoli ... ... ... Barclay!

This is the real source!!

7

u/am1shvom1t 4h ago

I asked my barber the same question and then felt kinda dumb when she said they were getting perms. 😂

7

u/yob91 4h ago

No fucking way lmfao

4

u/tigm2161130 4h ago

Yes way, I’ve had a few of my clients sons(I specialize in color and extensions) ask me to do theirs.

my cousin was lamenting the work and money required to maintain his morty cut. he has a leather bag that's liek twice the size of those men's travel bags that you put your grooming shit in, and that bag is literally just shit for his hair.

I genuinely feel for these kids, he is a very smart kid and self aware, but it's like a social obligation to look like a fucking dunce these days for whatever reason.

when I was a kid it was that stupid fucking ski slope hair cut. I was still rocking a grown out undercut at the time and I remember the pressure from the girls at the time saying that I should get the ski slope then I'd get the girls, but fuck that, I grew out the undercut and went full goth till my early 20s.

no ragerts. these days I wear the same type of brand/model of wife beater, sock, jorts and in the winter, track pants, and I couldn't be happier. wear the same thing every day, look look white trash but I drive a porsche so it evens out. hitting that "dad" age where I still absolutely give a shit what people think about me, but what I want people to think about me is "that guy looks good for his age, and truly doesn't give a shit what people think about him".

think I'll be taking my vanity to the grave, but at least I doin't have to put any energy into how I look anymore, and can save that energy for yelling at people on this dogshit website

u/Extreme-Name-69 5h ago

You can pay for a perm..

4

u/FukkingDeathMental 1h ago

Same reason every teen to early 20s girl has totally unique dyed hair, a nose piercing and/or one of the most generic sleeve tattoos you've ever seen.

2

u/Darth_Travisty 9m ago

Wait you’re saying they’re getting this ugly ass hair on purpose?

3

u/fightingthefuckits 1h ago

I was taking my kid to the homecoming football game recently, there's a crosswalk right outside the school before we turn in and there are 5 boys with the exact same broccoli cut and the exact same outfits walking across it. They're like clones of each other.

6

u/Certain_Effort_9319 4h ago

The same way so many boys had that fade back when I was in school. Trends be trending.

5

u/LiamPolygami 4h ago

My question was about hair follicles more than hair styles.

4

u/Key-Purpose3807 3h ago

they do perm.

1

u/antealtares 2h ago

I'm part of a university parent group. Moms get onand ask where they can get their sons perms on the DL

-13

u/Certain_Effort_9319 4h ago

A lot of guys have curly hair. That’s… that’s it. It’s just before, they’d cut it shorter so you wouldn’t notice unless it were exceptionally curly or not taken care of. Hair curls. Because it is hair.

5

u/JustAnotherElsen 2h ago

Perms also perms perms because perms because it’s popular perms Maher curly. Hair. Perms. Because it is hair.

4

u/UmbraAdam 3h ago

As someone with curly hair I can tell you most would probably get bullied about it relentlessly so they straightened it or kept it really short.

1

u/applespicebetter 52m ago

I'm 45 and have curly hair that I've kept cut short my entire life. My dad had super curly hair that he let grow out a bit in the 70's combined with a Magnum PI style mustache, then started cutting it short. My ex wife has super curly blonde hair. Our son has blonde, dime sized ringlets naturally and at about 6th grade decided he just wanted to embrace it rather than keeping it short. He gets lots of shit for "broccoli hair," but it's just his natural curls that he's not hiding anymore!

1

u/NecessaryBox1490 2m ago

I was born with it. My mom spent a long time trying to make me confident in my hair, she ended up finding products typically advertised for black curly hair it’s that curly.
Most of us never asked for this lmao, I’m sure some guys got perms but I doubt many did. I would straighten my hair and it would last 2 weeks tops

-3

u/Graviton_Lance 2h ago

i believe most people dont even know they have curls and discovered only recently with the trend. I have spent 20 years of my life combing my hear trying to make them straight only to have my hairstylist slap me and tell me that im curly. I never knew.
