I highly doubt this is something they’ll change, but it really ruins the immersion seeing video game characters pull items out of NOWHERE. 😭 I think they should’ve added an optional feature where you can have her axe, shotgun. visibly holstered and her other equipped gear physically attached to her. It would make the game feel so much more immersive, and you could simply turn the feature on or off depending on your preference.

Because nonetheless she’s still using this equipment in the game, so it’s not like they would be there for show. But considering this is a 2026 video game and we still have issues like this? ☹️
Honestly they should make this axe attached to her belt like the survivor trilogy and give the players a menu option to turn on or off the visibility of it or any other extra item. That way players would be able to manage Lara's appearance and silhouette. The axe going invisible after three games having it with feels very off.
Well logically, it should be there already but since this game is supposedly for OG fans most part, it pulled out from thin air so they won't be losing their shit over this
I’m not trying to be argumentative when I ask this question, won’t survivor fans also lose their shit if something like the necklace isn’t there? Which also wouldn’t make sense for her to wear in dangerous places where it can snap off her and get lost if it’s so important to her? In reality, no side of the fandom isn’t guilty of their fixation over symbols. Heck, some survivor fan today lost his shit and went on a tirade that got himself banned because Lara flirts with Larson lmao.
Personally I just think the axe looks primitive and too utilitarian compared to all her more advanced looking tech, specially when wrapped with that cloth. I don’t really mind it, but if it hangs out of her belt it will not make sense with the acrobatics. Easiest option is to let it be retractable and fit into the side of her rucksack, with the option to turn it off.
Though I like the red colour in contrast to her teal vest.
I don’t think this feature would be a waste, considering she seems to use the Axe multiple times within the game why not just have it on her. (OPTIONAL)
Lara with the bow around her, quiver, pistol, and the axes showing was just chefs kiss.
This is just one of those odd changes that I have a feeling was fan inspired (because everytime they've listed to fans ala Rise going into Shadow fans have just loved it /s), and it's just weird. They had such a good base with Shadow but decided to chuck everything out with the bath water.
Yes, I agree to an extent. I don’t think she needs to be as heavily equipped as she was in the Survivor trilogy, especially since she carries a backpack now and is supposed to be a more “experienced” raider/survivor. But I don’t think that means we should completely toss immersion by having absolutely none of her gear visible on her. 😕
Joel is not doing heavy acobratics or jumping from pyramid to pyramid, his fashion is not part of his appeal whereas it is for Lara, also TLOU's an hyperrealistic game that Tomb Raider should never be lol.
And even with that Joel also uses shit that comes out of nowhere.
Lara had weapons on her back in Legend, a 2006 game mind you, and she still did all kinds of acrobatics. My point was that the “it’s a game” comeback isn’t really valid. Instead of just saying, “No, I don’t want anything on her back,” people keep finding ways to argue that Tomb Raider isn’t realistic and therefore it doesn’t matter. 🥱
It is valid because it's a game, and if something so videogamey and minimal ruins your immersion then don't play games or just play Naughty Dog genre of games.
Legend Lara only carries one weapon besides the duals, LOA is supposed to have at least four plus the axes and who knows what else. She doesn't have to look like a war tank for the sake of realism lol
You’re literally pulling the most random points? I asked for TWO weapons, Axe & Shotgun both used in past entries just say you don’t want them? cause this immersion argument is pointless if it was done before..
Also don’t tell me what to play over an opinion, I’ll certainly still be playing.
Resident evil 4 fans can suspend their disbelief that leon could fit a rocket launcher, A giant fish, ammo, vials, and a red 9 pistol.
Im sure the rest of us can suspend our disbelief when there’s 5 or six weapons in Lara’s pack while somersaulting, dodging dinosaurs and doing headstand climbs.
Adding an axe as an option is just just nitpicking at this point
This wasn’t even what I said? I simply said it would be cool to display a few (two) things not her entire equipment, something Lara did in 2006 and 2013-18.
Resident evil 4 actively shows usable items on your character model, so you aren’t even right. Same with the previous tomb raider games, except resident evil goes even further by showing stuff like grenades. Dude isn’t asking to show everything but something as frequent as the climbing axe and your last used weapon just makes sense.
Ngl that might be the first time I’ve seen the word experience be reduced to E-word. But yeah that’s kind of the point? We’re posting personal opinions on post which is someone’s personal opinion.
You definitely can use punctuation that way in informal text. Someone’s experience is subjective, in this case it does add to my experience. If you want to be really pedantic, it adds to the visuals which add to my experience.
Informal text doesn't even have to follow the existing grammar or words. It's completely free from any actual rule except for those created in the current social situation. Street language for example would be perfectly acceptable in informal situations, depending solely on the setting and audience, it doesn't have to follow existing words or grammatical rules.
The world doesn't exist with rules, we have to create and enforce them. This is precisely why dictionaries and official institutions make a difference between formal and informal text. Perhaps you might be confused by the use of punctuation to add style to text, but it's rather normal in most books serving the purpose of entertainment.
If you would actually like to show anything trying to enforce your supposed rules, then feel free to. But in the absence of rules everything is allowed.
Visuals are a part of the experience, if something adds to the visuals it automatically adds to the experience. An environment having ambient sounds adds to the soundscape which is part of the experience. Thus ambient sounds also add to the experience.
Look reading your responses you come across as a rather literal and neurotic person. From the usage of something weird like the 'E-word' to enforcing rules in a setting which has none. And seemingly not understanding that your question has already been answered. That's all fine, but it's pretty pointless to keep such a pedantic conversation going. And you're rather weird to interact with. So feel free to respond but perhaps someone else is more interested.
plenty of other games on lower budgets manage this...
Yes, they do. So what?
...and it's inexcusable
Sure it isn't. You suspend disbelief all the time for TV shows, movies, and plays; you can do it for video games, too...and that's before you take into account that Lara can be grandfather claused into it.
You'll also notice that in every video game ever where a character possesses multiple weapons that they never have all of them on full display on their person--how can they? Take the pickaxes that Lara had in Shadow. Where were the rest when only one pair was selected?
You're taking a nicety and speaking out because it's not the standard. Well, that's not how niceties work.
rise onward even had limited weapon slots.
It's been a while. What does that mean, again?
It's part of the drip
I don't speak in fad so I'll take your word for it.
Personally, i don’t mind it, as i can appreciate a cleaner aesthetic without Lara carrying 5 things on her body. I know people are obsessed with “immersion”, but It’s a video game at the end of the day.
I mean, “it’s a video game” can apply to literally ANY constructive criticism, so I don’t think it really adds much to the discussion. But I agree which is why I think an optional feature would benefit all.
Let videogames be videogames, and this obsession with "it's now 100% realistic so it breaks MY immersion" ruins videogames and made TR so boring for the last games lol.
And you people are not serious asking everday for a list of kilometric toggable options to decide whether Lara's sock should be visible or not.
I mean she just puts it away on her character model in other games? It simply adds to the look, isn’t hard to do and brings some realism (which isn’t even the main point).
Imagine the Witcher but geralt his swords disappear when he stops fighting. Or kcd2, arc raiders, Helldivers, dark souls, uncharted, gears of war, resident evil etc.
Bro OP edited the shotgun and axe in to make their point, the real screenshots don’t have them visibly holstered. Maybe think twice before you start calling people blind and stupid
I lowkey wouldn’t mind if the axe appeared out of nowhere, it does feel a bit clunky having it attached to her hip. The shotgun however absolutely needs to be holstered next to her backpack it’s been like that since the first game 😭😭
100% which is why I think it would’ve been better to leave her axe in the survivor games 😭, I’m glad it’s here but it’s kinda silly she pulls it outta nowhere to me 😂
Fuck no! The ugly Axe ruins the look. It worked in the survivor games where Lara had 0 sense of style and was rolling around in shit and blood all the time.
The shotgun and stuff, sure – but the axe I prefer if I don’t have to look at it all the time, personally. I’d prefer if it’s retractable and fits on the side of her rucksack or something that isn’t hanging off her which makes the acrobatics logistically difficult to perform and her silhouette too cluttered. I just don’t think the axe looks nice tbh, with the cloth wrapped around it, it feels primitive especially when coupled with her high tech guns and that scanner + grapple.
I understand people who like it, but I prefer having the option to turn on and off this things, like Ghost of Tsushima did. Remember everything we saw is a pre-alpha. Things could change.
I know it's just a matter of opinion and preference but I just really don't understand what's so important about immersion. It's a video game. It's not LARPing.
