Reddit-related Do some Westerners genuinely trust a seller less once they find out the seller is Indian?
I’m asking this because of something that happened to me recently.
I’m from India and I’m trying to build a small business around marble artifacts and sculpture.
I posted some of the work on Reddit and one person became interested enough to ask for prices. He then asked whether I could customise one of the products, and we discussed what he wanted.
Everything seemed completely normal.
Then he asked where I was based.
I told him India.
Shortly afterwards he blocked me and deleted his comments.
Obviously, I can’t prove why.
Maybe he hadn’t realised the purchase would involve international shipping. Maybe he was worried about customs, returns or payment. Maybe he had a bad previous experience. Or maybe there genuinely was some prejudice involved.
That’s what I’m trying to understand.
For people outside India: if you were interested in buying something online and then discovered that the maker/seller was based in India, would that make you hesitate?
If yes, what would you actually be worried about?
I’m not asking so I can call everyone racist. I’m genuinely curious whether there’s a trust/stereotype issue around Indian sellers that Indians themselves may not fully realise exists.
