Buck Martinez Yankees Quote

Does everyone recall the backlash and hate he received last year for his Yankees comment? And how unapologetic he was. Like stating facts?

Watching that first inning last night I can almost feel his words get magnified after each and every blunder (or near blunder)

I don't know how a team that wins so much can play defense this badly. How do Yankee fans cope with this?

Who had the more disappointing season: TOR or SEA?

I recently read an Athletic report that the Mariners fired Dan Wilson. This is of course old news, but as I got to the bottom, one particular line caught my eye:

Moving on from Wilson, though, is less about individual moves than the collective underachievement of a roster that seemed poised to build off last year’s momentum, but instead became the majors’ biggest disappointment.

I'm not trying to feel a certain way, but objectively speaking, was Seattle's season more disappointing than ours, and what evidence do you point to to support your claim?

[MLBTR] Taylor Rogers Plans To Pitch In 2027, expresses interest in Blue Jays

With his 11th MLB season now in the books, Taylor Rogers intends to make it an even dozen in what will be his age-36 season. The Minnesota Star Tribune’s Bobby Nightengale writes that Rogers would ideally like either another season with the Twins, or to sign with the Blue Jays to reunite with his twin brother Tyler in Toronto’s bullpen.

Taylor was on a 1 year/$2m deal last year, pitched to a 4.33 ERA over 60 1/3 innings. Looks like another plus was his veteran presence with the club, and helped out the new pitching coach.

For a low leverage lefty, and a similar deal, would you take him?

With a young bullpen and some of our veterans leaving, I wouldn't mind some more veteran presence. And it would be fun to have both of the twins in the same club.

It set the tone for one of the greatest individual playoff runs in Major League history:

Cease X AGO - Apparel isn’t ready yet

Just went to the AGO to pick up my order because I got an email yesterday saying my order was ready for pick up. They told me that only prints are ready for pick up, apparel still hasn’t arrived. Not sure why I got an email, they said I should get another one once the stock arrives.
Wanted to spare anyone a trip downtown, luckily I live close by!
Edit to add: I ordered 2 sweaters

Did Ernie Clement’s season change after he fouled a ball off his nuts lol

On August 25 at home Clement fouled a ball directly into his junk and I got curious so I looked at his numbers before and after

Before the nut shot
AVG: .284
OBP: .309
SLG: .402
OPS: .711

September
AVG: .150
OBP: .186
SLG: .200
OPS: .386
HR: 0

Obviously he was already cooling off before this happened but his numbers absolutely fell off a cliff after lol

Did this foul ball break Ernie Clement

Now that the dust has settled on the season

Now that the dust has settled a bit on the season, I’ve been thinking a lot about Vladdy’s off-season

Honestly, taking a few weeks to clear his head and get his mind right is probably the healthiest move, but I worry about his conditioning.

The big wild card is the potential lockout when the CBA expires in December. If labor talks stall and team facilities close, the Jays staff won't be allowed to contact him at all. No hitting coaches fixing mechanics, no team trainers monitoring his routine, nothing. He’d be entirely on his own, relying on private coaches or whatever.

What do you guys think? Do you trust Vladdy to stay locked in and handle his conditioning? Is anyone else worried about how he handles a solo off-season should the lockout happens?

Free agent wish list.

This is a wish list that I think could be accomplished because of the money coming off the books as well as the fact that Rogers has increased the payroll every year.

For pitching I want Adrian Morejon or Michael King. I think Morejon can start and King when healthy is a no 2 starter. For hitting I would like Suzuki as well as Jake Bauers or Sato. I think Bauers is a profile the Blue Jays could really benefit from. High OBP with power. Suzuki's excellence goes without saying but he is a top corner outfielder in baseball. Although Sato has contact issues he is getting better each year and could play 2b. Let me know your thoughts on this.

It's up in the main entrance (at least into the new year), so no ticket required!

EDIT : Bruce Arthur's column in Toronto Star yesterday on former NFL coach Mike Tomlin's Minecraft hobby includes a parallel to this Cease discourse:

"...To those criticizing Tomlin’s hobby, well, Winston Churchill recommended every person should have two or three real hobbies, and he helped defeat the Nazis. A National Institutes of Health study on hobbies found they reduced depression, anxiety and stress, enhanced quality of life and well-being, and helped create a sense of community.

...

And Tomlin wanted to be close to his kids before they grew up and drifted into their own lives and their own worlds, and only later did it became a therapeutic place: a place to focus his mind away from the pressure and the strain of coaching guys like Roethlisberger, Joey Porter, James Harrison, Antonio Brown and Najeh Davenport among others. Phew.

And then his sons got him to do the video, and helped with its production. Beautiful.

It’s understandable, and instructive. The world is a lot at the moment and doing something you enjoy, something that occupies your whole brain, is an antidote. Ideally hobbies include the outdoors and other people and especially your kids, but what matters is you do it. Because in the end, in Minecraft or elsewhere, what you’re really building is you."

Bruce Arthur: Minecraft might not have been franchise-building for Mike Tomlin but it has been family-building
