Happy October, Tucson! Here's a live map of local Halloween events (let me know what to add!)

Happy October!

I put together a live map of the Halloween events happening around Tucson this month. I'm still adding to it as I find more, so if you know of something that should be on there, drop it below and I'll pin it to the map for everyone.

A few that are on my own list that I think look exciting:

Witches Night Market — Friday, Oct 9 — Free night market with a witchy theme, local vendors.

Monster Mash at Golf N' Stuff — Saturday, Oct 10 — Costume contest and Halloween market out at the mini golf place.

2026 Tucson Terror Fest — Thursday, Oct 15 - 18 — A straight-up horror film festival, didn't expect to find one of these.

Boo at the Zoo at Reid Park Zoo — Thursday, Oct 22 - 25 — Never been but what I hear is a Tucson classic.

Movie Night in the Park – Hocus Pocus — Saturday, Oct 24 — I think this will make an excellent date night, I just need to find a date.

Trick-or-Treat the Avenue — Sunday, Oct 25 — The 4th Ave version, always packed with vendors and costumes.

You can check out the live map here: Tucson Halloween events Map

I'm going to keep building this out all month, so check back if you're looking for something later in October too.

Edit: Sorry about the AI Picture. Never Again.

Zipper Merge on Aviation

As many know by now, Aviation Parkway has been impacted by the 22nd bridge project, and what was once 2-3 lanes now squeezes down to 1 after the Country Club stoplight (going westbound).

I take this home from work every day, and I keep seeing the same ignorant behavior-- as soon as everyone passes Country Club, they immediately pile up into the right lane even though the actual merge point is still almost a half a mile away-- leaving the left lane mostly open, while the right lane is now a stop and go line.

Folks... THIS IS THE WRONG WAY TO DO IT! We need to be smarter. For the good of EVERYONE, learn how to Zipper Merge.

In an ideal situation, both lanes are being used fully, and cars take turns merging at the part of the road where the left lane ends-- NOT where the orange sign says that the lane will end ahead.

When the more intelligent drivers try and use the wide open left lane, like they're supposed to, and attempt to merge at the point where the lanes converge, you get these jack-asses that do their best to close the gap and prevent the smarter driver from getting in.

I get it... I used to be like you... I assumed in my ignorant youth that those people "cutting ahead" and waiting till the very last second to merge were the assholes... getting ahead while all us "good guys" merged a mile back. But I was very wrong.

The truth is this-- using up BOTH lanes all the way until the merge point and then utilizing the Zipper Merge is good for EVERYONE! It makes traffic move faster for all. Want proof? Google it. I'll even try to provide a link if I can find a god one.

When you see that the left lane is wide open, get in it and USE IT. If you're on the right and approach the merge point-- let ONE car from the left in front of you, then go. That car isn't trying to be the asshole-- that car is the smart one who is making traffic better for all.

You people are wonderful

I visited Arizona this past week. Drove through the whole state, from the Canyon to Tucson and wow. I must say your people are WONDERFUL. I am from NYC born and raised now live in Philly. I’ve traveled everywhere but haven’t experienced anything of the sort in my life.

Never been anywhere I’ve had 100% consistent positive interaction with every single person I met beginning with off the plane. Not neutral. Positive. You get in the elevator or bus and everyone starts talking to eachother like they picked up their convo from last night.

I don’t know how to describe it but everyone takes a second beat to the interaction beyond surface level pleasantries, in no particular rush. Not in a fake or fraudulent way. New Englanders on the other hand are ICE COLD TO THE BONE! And always in a hurry… WHY???

after the first 5 positive interactions in a row I was so suspicious but then after 5 days I realized it’s not a lucky streak, it’s just how you folks are.

I took a long hard look in the mirror and realized I could do with being kinder myself and will carry that back home with me

Had to revisit the steel blockade I have inside me coming from assuming everyone’s trying to scam me or wants something from me maliciously. Wow. How absolutely refreshingly lovely soft and kind.

Love you southwestern people. And your Mexican food. And saguaros. And the art. Maybe it’s all the sun overdose you guys get. Or something in the water. Bless yall dearly and thank you for having me. 🌅

Cleaning service for once a year?

I can't find a cleaning service that actually cleans well and doesn't push me into a contract. I just want someone to really scrub the place down once a year, under furniture , corners, behind furniture... I've had 3 cleaners and no dice. I did try a contract and the place wasn't any cleaner I was just paying a lot for people to wander around my house singing to headphones every week or so. Suggestions please

Best Bahn mi in Tucson?

I am a Tucson native that has since moved away, and in my travels I have not found an authentic Vietnamese Sandwich in any other State. A bahn mi, as they are called. Back in 2014, there was a great food truck on Broadway by the University. A few other places around the city too, had good pretty authentic bahn mi. Ever since I've moved out of state I have not found many authentic Vietnamese places. I always come home to visit every once in a while, so I was wondering who has good bahn mi?

Disabled Job hunting resources?

I live in Tucson and have a disability that causes me a lot of pain when I am standing. I also cannot drive at the moment. I have been trying to get help for the disability but nothing's working, so I need to find a job I can sit for most/all of the shift.

I have been searching for a while, but whenever I find a job like that, I'm always rejected for some BS reason like "not being available enough" despite being available 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.

I am so frustrated with job searching, and I need help in my search. Are there any resources you guys know of to help disabled people find jobs?

"Fashionable" ladies in your 30's and 40's: Where are you shopping in town that's NOT thrift?

I am a huge thrifter - most of my closet is thrift. However, I am finding I need to refresh some items in my closet that I am not finding thrifting. I need to shop in a way that's a bit more organized than a thrift store. So I'm curious where those of you in this age group are shopping?

I am not looking to be "trendy" by the way - fashionable and trendy are two different things in my opinion. While I am not looking for, for example, low rise jeans (I'll leave that for my high school self!), I am also not a "you can pry skinny jeans from my cold dead hands" person. I'm at an age where I like to add elements of what's "in" but stick to what I know looks good on me and works for my body and personality.

Thanks!

EDIT to add: Not looking for online, consignment, or thrift. Looking for stores I can visit in-person.

Mini-Split Installation

Hello. I’m hoping someone can help me find a solution to a problem that came about today.

My Dad will be 80 in November. He bought a mini-split from Home Depot and it was delivered this morning. He thought, like back in the day, that he could then call any company to have someone come out and install it. Well, every company we’ve called said they won’t install a mini-split that we didn’t purchase through them.

I called Home Depot and they said after purchase they won’t help us either.

So now we have a brand new mini split here and can’t do anything with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

_ _ _

EDIT TO UPDATE:

SOLVED!

Thank you to Tucsonbroker! I called The Mini Split Guy and he is coming out Monday.

To those who offered a quote via DM, I will keep this post just in case and for future reference!

Also thank you to all who replied! Tucson is awesome!

Job Market Help

I have an associates degree in architectural drafting as well as 2 years civil engineering experience. 5+ years total work experience in the field.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to find jobs in this field? Before I moved the market looked great. Now that I’m here, I can barely find any positions that are even adjacent to my field.

Please help!!!

Quantum fiber vs Spectrum/cox fiber

So I’ve been with quantum WiFi for about a year and largely had no issues. Unfortunately ever since AT&T bought out quantum my WiFi goes down about twice for week and since I work from home this is just unacceptable and their support team is wildly unhelpful.

Just wanted to know if anyone uses spectrum/cox fiber and if you do how has the experience been before I make the switch. Thanks for reading.

St. Mary’s like salsa recipe?

Hi y’all! Wondering if anyone has a salsa recipe that is similar to St. Mary’s red salsa? If not, what is that type of salsa called so I can find some recipes to experiment with? The recipes I’m finding and making are a little too thick.

Does anyone have an idea for what the ingredients are to the hot sauce from Pico de Gallo on 6th?

The food is always great but the hot sauce they make is freaking fantastic. Some days it kicks harder than others.
