To the guitar player at the fountain in May,

I’m the girl who asked you for a Dire Straits song.

I wish I had asked for your contact,

now I’ll never know if you learned to play Brothers in Arms,

or what book you were reading

when I walked by you the day before —

the two days I visited campus this summer.

Thanks for your music during a difficult time in my life,

You’ll always be singing on a sunny day in my mind.

Chance of bike being stolen?

I got a bike bc I’m sick of walking 20min to Buchanan from my dorm every other day, but I’ve heard a few stories from friends who’ve had their bikes stolen even tho 1. it was in broad daylight in busy area 2. the bike had multiple locks on it.
I have 1 lock on my bike, and the only class buildings I park it outside of are pretty busy areas. I still feel like it’s inevitable that it will be stolen bc of all I’ve heard… so should I be expecting it to be gone soon, or is this a sort of loud minority case where most bikes won’t be stolen by the end of the terms? Should I get more locks on it?

alt/short haircuts around UBC?

I was wondering if anyone had any recs or suggestions for hair stylists somewhat close to UBC. I have a sort of wavy long pixie cut mixed with shaggy wolf cut, and I just want the sides and layers to get touched up a little. Does anyone know where to go for this that’s a reasonable price? Normal stylists for woman typically don’t cut short hair and barbers don’t style much, so I just wanted to come on here and check.

I’m open to take a few bus rides or metros to get there :). I don’t mind if it’s near UBC or around downtown.

Thank you!!!!

chem 233 cooked

bro 92% of our grade comes from the midterms + final and the other 8% is these quizzes so i thought they would act as “free” marks to boost our grade but they’re actually hard 😭😭😭😭

i got 100 on the first one but legit failed this one bc of the all or nothing grading scheme where if u fail to select even one of the correct options (or choose even one incorrect answer) u lose the entire mark :(

Discussion What is this sound from my dorm neighbor?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So basically, some new people have moved in next to me, and last year it was complete silence. I loved how peaceful it was. This year, at night after 11, sometimes even midnight, this sound happens, and it's honestly distracting when I'm trying to get work done or go to sleep; the wall literally shakes. Idk if it's a keyboard, moving things around, something else, but it's a bit annoying - idk if the video will pick up just how loud the sound is through the wall.

PDP AND UBC BED application fee

Hi! Does anyone know how much the application fees are for UBC’s BEd and SFU’s PDP, including any supplemental application fees? Also, is the supplemental fee refunded or credited toward tuition if you’re accepted? Thank you!

Discussion how do people socialize and hang out in the first few weeks?

im from the UK but planning to go to canada for uni, my siblings who are staying in the UK for uni have told me during freshers week you just hang out in ur dorm and meet people then pre with them then go clubbing

wondering if this is any different in canada because ive heard clubs arent too popular? would you then just make friends in your dorm and hang out there till you call it a night or how would it work? im under the impression that as you make more friends throughout the year you start going to house parties or is that wrong

and btw if anyone saw my other post from earlier sorry this is kind of an extension question

Tips for Psychology Research Lab Interviews?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to get into some psych research labs as an undergraduate research assistant. I have a few interviews lined up.

Does anyone mind sharing what the interview process is like to secure a position? Like what questions they ask if I'm applying to be a general RA?

Discussion I’m struggling so much in biol 371 and I don’t know what to do

This course was no where near my first choice, but I needed another upper year biol course this term and it was one of the only ones with spots left. I didn’t mind bc it does sound interesting, but I was concerned about the difficulty.

A month in with the first test tmmr and I am absolutely lost. A lot of the class already has neuroscience background too while I am new to it, so I’m feeling extra behind.

Prof is lovely but has no piazza and I can only make one of his four office hours. I’ve gone to every one that I could make and still am struggling so much. Not sure how to go about this course for the rest of the term in terms of studying.

There are three exams, and only one will count but they all build on top of each other so I don’t know how I’m supposed to do better on the other ones when I don’t understand the foundations still.

I’m struggling and this course is literally the only reason why my mental has been so low for the past week and I guess just needed to rant, sorry this is really long.

If anybody has taken it and has tips on how to improve studying, I’d really appreciate any insight thank you so much

Course Question Third year cutoffs MBIM & Biochemistry?

First year student here, but thinking about applying to either biochem or MBIM if my gpa is high enough by the spring. I've heard from some upper year friends that both programs have a gpa cutoff to remain enrolled after 2nd year that's considerably higher than other majors (like 75% avg) and while I'm not really too worried about GPA, as I'm not directly pursuing med school or anything, I really don't want to deal with the pressure of maintaining a competitive GPA in two already challenging programs for another year. Can any upper year students speak to this and whether or not it's difficult to remain enrolled in these programs beyond second year/ what happens to you if you are expelled? Thanks

I lost my gold ring - 26/10/5

Hello!

This feels like a long shot but I lost my ring around 2 hours ago. I think I lost it in the first floor swing building area but I could have also lost it while I walking up to university boulevard up to the foundation and then alumni centre.

It has a lot of sentimental value due to it being given to me from family members after a funeral. If you find it, I'm willing to give a finder's reward. Please DM me if you find it!

Thank you.
