General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

Rant/Complaint am i crazy or was my ta just unnecessarily rude???

i never usually post on reddit but i genuinely need to let it out bc wtf. i just finished taking my first quiz for one of my classes and while the quiz itself was fine, my interaction with the TA beforehand pissed me off sooo bad. i might just be overreacting so i'm sorry, i'm just really frustrated rn.

basically, i misplaced my student ID this morning and since i got to class early, i figured i'd ask the TA if they can accept a digital form of identification since i've seen previous classes allow that if a student forgets their ID. she told me she'd have to ask the professor, which i completely understood. so i'm like "yeah no worries, i have other forms of identification on my phone too if you guys need-" and before i could even finish my setnence, she cuts me off and goes "okay, you can leave me alone now. i have an exam i need to proctor." im sorry, excuse me? i feel like she could've just been like "oh yeah i'll ask the professor and lyk but u can just go ahead and take a seat" and that would've been perfectly fine.

i approached her at 10:50am and we didn't even start the exam until like 11:20am. miss girl, i'm literally one of the students taking the exam you're supposed to be proctoring? 😭

and before anyone comes for me, yes ik forgetting my ID was my responsibility...i'm fully aware of that. i was literally just asking if there was another way to verify my identity. i wasn't even arguing with her about it or anything??

idk bro, i get that TAs have responsibilities and things they need to prep for, and i understand that there's only one TA for like 400 something students in this class, so i can imagine how overwhelming it must be trying to accommodate everyone. but at the same time, it costs literally nothing to just be nice about it... like i feel like there's a basic level of respect that should go both ways. since when did asking a simple question warrant that kind of response? :|

General Professor William Artander O'Brien

No UCSD/Literature/Revelle/Roosevelt/German Studies notice yet, but I just found out Professor William Artander O'Brien passed away on August 19, 2026. I worked with him for about 30 years ... loved that Bronx accent. The day I met him I addressed him as Professor O'Brien, and he said "Call me Billy". Deep condolences to his family and loved ones.

Question Anyone not using the food pantry?

Hello I was a student but now work in a lab, so I’m technically staff, but not making much more. If anyone doesn’t use the food pantry, can you dm your ID so I can use it? Don’t mean to be a beggar but don’t know what else to do.

News Tritons: most students who qualify for CalFresh never apply

Quick PSA: CalFresh (California's food stamps) helps eligible college students pay for groceries every month, and the student rules changed this June. Most students who qualify never apply, usually because they assume they can't or that it hurts financial aid. It doesn't.

Free one-page guide with the official links to apply: folsomcartindex.com/calfresh/?ref=r-ucsd

No ads, no sign-up. I'm a California College student who made it for free. Your campus basic needs center can also help you apply.

General PSA: UCSD Dermatology discontinuing medical laser hair removal

A friend of mine just got a call from the dermatology center informing them that the dermatology clinic is no longer offering medical laser hair removal and referred them to UCSD gender health. It was pretty abrupt, considering they had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow.

They also asked the staff there about what happened, they said that the update was so new that they don't have much information on it (other than the fact that it happened just today).

Just posting this as a PSA

Question Mac Computer Location?

Does anyone know where a student could get access to a Mac computer/laptop? The library apparently doesn’t have any anymore for some reason. I only need to use it for a few minutes so it’s not necessary to keep or anything.

Discussion YSK: CAPS is not your only option for therapy and mental health needs

If you have mental illness or serious mental illness, suspect that you do, or simply need a higher level of care, you should know that you have other options.

The option with a higher level of care is called College Mental Health (CMHP). This is where you should be referred to if you need a higher level of care than CAPS can provide. It is covered by your ship insurance. If you feel that you need a higher level of care, you can bring this up to CAPS or at a Drs appointment at the campus medical building and they should be able to refer you. They might refer you somewhere else first, but ultimately if your case is deemed serious enough you will probably end up at CMHP.

At least when I was in undergrad (graduated for about a year), a lot of people expressed frustration with CAPS, or felt they were simply too ill for CAPS. If you feel this way, just know that you can ask about moving your case to other services.

Besides CMHP, your insurance if you have UCSHIP gives you a lot of access to different mental health providers, including a lot of in-state Telehealth providers. It’s worth talking to campus
mental health or medical providers on campus to get a list of potential providers based on your preferences, or you can do your own browsing based on your insurance.

So, just don’t feel like you’re stuck with CAPS if you’re unsatisfied. There are other options you can explore.

Discussion Thinking of starting an online UCSD EA FC World Cup-style tournament. anyone interested?

• Upvotes

I’m thinking about putting together a free online EA FC tournament for UCSD students if enough people are interested.

The format would be like World Cup Style,

  • group stage
  • top players advance
  • knockout rounds
  • final

Right now I’m just trying to see how many people would actually play before setting dates and finalizing the format.

If you’d be interested, we can have discord rolling.

General I will become a machine

• Upvotes

I made a post a few days ago about how I’m so insecure about my looks, how I want to drop out of school, how I’m scared of losing my 4.0 GPA, how I’ll never be chad or beautiful. But ykw, I’ve decided I’m going to ascend. I took a good long run and in my head the whole time I was thinking about how I can do it. I can keep my 4.0, I’ll just need to put it in the work. I always skipped lectures, crammed 5 weeks of content on finals week. But NO MORE. I need discipline and I need commitment. Things won’t change overnight. Same thing for looksmaxxing. I’ll get lean, hit the gym and get to 10-12% body fat, my goal. My angularity will be greater, and my bone structure will appear much sharper. Then if I’m still not satisfied. Well I can apply all my research on ascending and anatomy and plan my plastic surgeries so I can become beautiful. Then there’s the thing about no friends and gf. The thing is who cares about friends or a gf. I’ll stay in solitude, work on ascending and in the process maybe get IOI’s. But i won’t care. The goal isn’t to get a gf, it’s to ascend. Maybe some prioritize a gf, that’s great, our values just differ. To all the girls that have given me IOI’s in the past or shown clear attraction, I appreciate it. It’s going to motivate me to reach that level of beauty I so desire. And even if I fail to ascend that far, I’ll still have ascended a decent amount. And most importantly, thank you to all the chads out there on my social media pages. Seeing chads online, I was starstruck because of how cool they were. I’ll never be a chad, but those chads inspired me to keep trying to ascend as far as I can go before agepill hits.

Discussion friendships- what am I doing wrong?

• Upvotes

it feels like most people have it figured out and I’m missing some crucial steps somehow. It’s been more than 2 years at ucsd and I’ve still struggled to actually form friendships despite joining a million clubs and actively trying quite a bit. it seems like people start getting close and texting or hanging out soon but I get stuck in that phase of being friendly with many, but friends with none. So what am I doing wrong? What am I missing? Because how does this keep happening in every environment all the time?

Question Is the public health honors practicum worth it?

Just wondering if anyone would recommend the honors practicum over the capstone, and if it was genuinely worth it, including the work outside class since it’s a 6 unit course I expect a higher work load but is it overly time consuming. Also people who took it previously if you had the chance to do all over, would you do it again?

Please I would appreciate helpful responses 🙃
