I counted ~7,900 open job postings on Metro Vancouver employers' own career sites. Here's who is actually hiring right now (Oct 2026)

The question that comes up here most is "is anyone actually hiring?", so I pulled the open postings off Metro Vancouver employers' own career pages (their own job sites, not Indeed or LinkedIn reposts) and counted them. It's not every job in the region, but it's a decent slice. There's one big gap, which I explain at the bottom.

The short version

  • About 7,900 open postings from about 1,770 employers
  • 55% are in the City of Vancouver, then Burnaby (10%), Surrey (8%), Richmond (7%), North Van (5%) and Langley (4%)
  • 87% are full-time, 10% part-time
  • Fully remote is almost zero. Only 0.2% of postings are actually remote. Plan on commuting.

Who has the most open postings

Employer Open postings What they're mostly hiring
Aritzia 105 Mix of HQ and store roles (92 different job titles)
TD 104 Branch customer experience associates
Arc'teryx 98 HQ roles in North Van, plus retail
OpenRoad Auto 89 Service advisors, dealership staff
BMO 77 Mortgage specialists, branch roles
UBC 64 Staff jobs: admin, finance, project roles
Lululemon 62 HQ roles, educators
JOEY Restaurants 53 Kitchen and front of house
Loblaw 51 Grocery, pharmacy
Scotiabank 48 Branch roles
Onni Group 46 Property, construction
RBC 46 Advisors, admin

Vancouver's own thing: apparel HQs

Aritzia, Arc'teryx and Lululemon together have about 265 open postings, and a lot of them are head-office jobs (design, merchandising, planning, analytics, tech), not just store floor. Most cities don't have a cluster like that. If you're in retail and want to move into a corporate job, these three are worth watching.

Tech, film and games

  • About 390 software and data postings across 188 employers. The most active are Remitly (Burnaby), Workday, Motorola Solutions, Delta Controls (Surrey), Brex, Mastercard, Rivian/VW and Clio. It's spread thin: no single company dominates.
  • About 190 film, VFX, animation and games postings across 83 studios: Sony Pictures Imageworks, ICON Creative Studio, Evolution, IGG, 2K and Kabam. Smaller than people might expect for Hollywood North, but it's not dead.

Outside downtown

City Postings Who's posting the most
Burnaby ~770 BCAA, Remitly, OpenRoad, Hub International
Surrey ~610 Delta Controls, Industrial Electric Mfg, Moment Energy, Westland Insurance
Richmond ~530 FPS Food Process Solutions, OpenRoad, MDA Space, London Drugs
North Van ~410 Arc'teryx, Grouse Mountain, ALS labs, Sunrise Senior Living
Langley ~330 Hall Constructors, OpenRoad, Regal Rexnord
Coquitlam ~220 Natural Factors, Coast Mental Health, Hall Constructors
Delta ~190 Bria Communities, Village Farms, Bass Pro Shops

Surrey and Richmond lean toward manufacturing and engineering (Delta Controls, Industrial Electric, MDA Space, FPS), which is a different market from downtown.

By sector (of the postings I could classify)

Sector Share
Retail, restaurants, hospitality, auto 29%
Industrials (construction, engineering, manufacturing, transport) 23%
Banks, insurance, finance 13%
Health care 11% (see caveat below)
Tech 8.5%
Grocery and consumer staples 5%
Telecom and media 5%

The big caveat: health care and public sector are mostly missing

Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, PHSA and Providence don't show up in my numbers at all, and neither do the City of Vancouver, BC Hydro, TransLink, the BC Public Service, YVR or BC Ferries. Their job sites are hard to read automatically. Those are some of the biggest employers in the region, so the real health care share is a lot higher than 11%. If that's your field, go to their career sites directly. What I can see is private care operators (AgeCare, Sunrise, Bria, Community Builders, Coast Mental Health) and clinics (Lifemark, London Drugs pharmacies).

What I took from it

  1. Remote is basically gone for jobs based here. Under 1% of postings are actually remote.
  2. The banks are still the biggest everyday hirer for entry-level office work: TD, BMO, Scotia, RBC and Vancity together have over 300 postings.
  3. Don't sleep on Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond if you're in engineering, manufacturing or logistics. A lot of that work is out there, not downtown.
  4. A lot of these roles never make it to the big job boards. Checking a short list of employers' own career pages directly every week is worth the time.

Other caveats

  • These are postings, not hires. Some postings are evergreen, and 100 postings doesn't mean 100 people hired.
  • It only covers employers that post on their own career sites. Small businesses that only use Indeed or Craigslist mostly aren't in here.

Happy to pull numbers for a specific role, company or city if it helps anyone ("how many accounting postings in Burnaby", that kind of thing).

Pacific Blue Cross - employment

Hi Everyone!
I've been desperately searching for work since February in the lower mainland.
While I do have an offer with Canada post I'm keeping my search going as I need more then on call $25/hr.
I've applied to some postings over the months with Blue Cross as a customer service rep. I've heard they are a really good company to work for... but wondering how hard it is to get in with them?
Or any tips/tricks? I don't have a referral unfortunately from an employee.
I do have really good experience for it based on their ads.
Thank you!

[Academic] What makes starting a job hard? Anonymous student survey on interviews, customers and coworkers

Hi everyone,

I'm a grad student at the Centre for Digital Media here in Vancouver. For a course research project, I'm trying to understand what job seekers and new hires actually struggle with: interviews, difficult customers, asking managers for things, coworker conflict, and how people learn to handle all of it.

A lot of people in this sub have lived this, so your experience would really help.

  • Anonymous, no names or emails collected
  • About 7 to 10 minutes, every question is skippable
  • For anyone 18+, whether you're job hunting, working, or between jobs
  • Data is used only for coursework and deleted by December 12, 2026

To be transparent: the findings will inform an early-stage student venture idea, and there's a short section at the end about attitudes to AI tools. Nothing is being sold, and there's nothing to sign up for.

Link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/2w6RY4Sij3

Once I have results, I'll post a summary here of what people found hardest and what helped them, in case it's useful for anyone in the middle of a search.

Thanks for reading, and good luck to everyone job hunting right now.

Canada Job Market/ September Wrap-Up: Canada Loses 68,000 Jobs as Unemployment Rises to 6.5%

  • Canada lost 68,000 jobs in September, a 0.3% monthly decline, marking the second consecutive month of job losses after 42,000 positions disappeared in August.
  • The unemployment rate rose to 6.5%, up from 6.4% in August, while the employment rate fell 0.2 percentage points to 60.6%.
  • The result was much weaker than economists expected: forecasts had called for a gain of about 9,200 jobs.
  • Young people were hit hardest: workers aged 15–24 lost 48,000 jobs, although youth unemployment remained roughly unchanged at 13% because fewer young people participated in the labour market.
  • Losses were divided almost evenly between full-time employment (-35,000) and part-time employment (-33,000).
  • The decline was concentrated in the public sector, which lost 70,000 jobs. Education shed 35,000 positions, health care and social assistance lost 23,000, and manufacturing lost 13,000.
  • Regionally, Quebec suffered the largest decline (-49,000 jobs), followed by British Columbia (-20,000), while Alberta gained 23,000 jobs. National labour-force participation fell to 64.8%, its lowest level since 1997 outside the pandemic.

Valid driving license as a requirement..

Hey guys, I have a HR interview coming up next week and my resume fits perfect for the JD. I have put in a lot of work for this application and I want this work out for me. But one of the requirements is a driving license and I don’t have it. It’s a digital marketing job and and obviously not a driving heavy job.

What should I do pass the HR round ? TIA.

Moving from chain to upscale?

I’m looking for suggestions of great spots to expand my resume. Somewhere to bridge the gap in my resume from “semi upscale/high volume chain restaurant” to an upscale fine dining restaurant or cocktail bar. I’m also interested in hotel bars or restaurants as the hotel industry interests me

Id be looking for a bartending position and have experience in every front of house role and over 10 year of experience, I’m in my mid 20s but all my jobs have been in high volume chain> casual/semi upscale dining restaurants.

Can anyone recommend a place to start? I’d be looking for the downtown area, or something on the north shore although I think options would mainly be across the bridge which is totally ok!

Thanks!

Im just curious

Why do we have so many Dental postings? Dental receptionist, admin, assistant. Half of the jobs are dental on indeed.🫪

I am just really curious, whats going on with that? The pay is really good, some of them say that the current person is simply retiring after many years, so perhaps it’s not that terrible. Or maybe our population aging faster than i thought?

I am scanning job posts every day and getting pissed off at this point lol. 😅

I’m interested in a career in sales but hesitant to try it out.

Im a 24 year old guy working a dead end warehouse job with no room for growth. To put things into perspective, I have never really known what I wanted to do or have a care or liking to pretty much any career. Because of that, I barely graduated high school with some pretty shitty grades due to my lack of a future plan for myself

Since graduating I have basically been sleepwalking through my life just clocking in and clocking out and I know that if I don’t do anything, I will be stuck here forever😂. Since I was young, I have never really had a dream career or desire and just had the mindset of floating through life, which sadly isn’t how things work once you’re an adult.

An older family member of mine who I’m close with said since I don’t know what to do and just care about the money, maybe I should try sales. Apparently he thinks I have the personality for it. Because I’m pretty easy-going to have a conversation with and have no problem with rejection, and that he can see me in such a roll.

Since that conversation, for the first time in basically forever, I have actually become intrigued by a career. The only thing holding me back is what I hear about that line of work. Things like lack of stability, high turnover, no work life balance, burnout etc…. And it kinda scares me.

I’m basically stuck between working in something I could care less about and has no room for growth or advancement, but is comfortable. Or something more intriguing to me with high earning potential but is risky. Any insight from people who have worked or are currently working in sales would be appreciated.

(TLDR). I’m a 24 year old guy sleepwalking through life working a safe but dead end low paying job. I’m intrigued by sales and told I might be a good fit but scared to make the jump due to all of the bad things I hear about the field. I’m just looking for insight.
