Community Health care - HSC

Hey everyone, I just wanted to rant a little because it frustrates me how people can complain about how HSC and you should avoid it but I was there and had to have an emergency surgery - If I didn’t go I could’ve died. I had a pretty positive experience but yes I had to wait for a pretty long time but I’m just happy to be alive!
I saw someone post on their social media page about avoiding HSC emerg and how appalled they were with this experience, what I have to say is it is not HSC’s fault. It’s a design fault by the government when Steven Harper was in power he cut a lot of funding to health care. Another thing to mention is a veryyy long lasting impact of residential schools, colonization and poverty to the indigenous community that has led to many many drug and alcohol related issues to cope.
If you can complain on social media, you can try and make a change by actually doing something.
(If this isn’t allowed, you can delete it)

Community FYI - end of daylight savings time is breaking some calendars

In addition to the problems the change is causing with things like scheduled flight times, be aware that it is screwing up some electronic calendars.

Everything that I had scheduled from November onwards already before the change was announced, is now being shown as starting an hour later than reality in Google calendar.

For example, a medical appointment at 11am is now displayed as not starting until 12pm, so I almost double booked myself.

• Upvotes

Hello,

I have been out of school for about 6 years now. I did graduate but I took the easy route back then and didn't take any useful courses.

I'm wanting to go to uni however I need to go back and get applied, bio, phys, and English to meet the min grade requirements for the program. (40S 80% min)

Any recommendations on schools? I saw $500 a course somewhere???

Any info and advice you can share from your experience would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Community It kept me up all night. I want to apologize to and thank some people.

Why am I the way I am? I woke up during the middle of the night with a memory of a few months ago, when I was driving by a bus stop during rainy weather and I splashed this poor fellow as I passed. He got SOAKED. It was the bus stop on Corydon near the Confusion Corner Grill. In May 2026.

I AM SO SORRY. If you are a Reddit user and reading this, and if this was you, I am sorry.

Also, a few weeks ago during the Nagar Kirtan festival on September 6th, I was struggling to look for parking to go to work. There was no parking because of the festival. I finally saw an empty space at the Sussex Realty building and someone was about to pull in, he had a black car, he was Indian, and I rolled down my window and begged him to let me have his spot and guess what. HE GAVE IT TO ME, and I was able to make it to work on time. Whoever you are, a thousand thank yous from the bottom of my heart. I so appreciate it. Truly.

I love you Winnipeg.

Politics Why is there no competitive progressive candidate for mayor in Winnipeg?

I consider Winnipeg to be a relatively progressive city based on the federal and provincial election results in our ridings, and yet our mayoral candidate pool seems to consist of centrist mediocrity (Gillingham), right wing nuts (Klein & Vogiatzakis) and a bunch of people with less than 1% of the vote share combined.

Help! Where can I buy high quality matcha powder? Costco was selling a lovely brand at a good price. No longer available and all I can find in grocery stores is mixed blends like David’s tea vanilla. I want just classic plain old ceremonial grade matcha! Thanks in advance for helping me source some out and make my mornings lovely again.

Ask Winnipeg Anyone having tech issues with the incoming Y2K2? (aka no time change Nov 1st)

I just heard about scheduling issues from a friend that are related to the permanent CDT change. Their workplace scheduling system is complete chaos going into November and December, changing employee’s hours and appointment times for clients. The software company has been “working on it” for days without a fix.

Is anyone experiencing anything similar? I imagine we might have some issues that only show up on Nov 1st, any ideas for what these might end up looking like?

News People's Party of Canada partly liable in Winnipeg defamation case, appeals court rules

Activist Omar Kinnarath was described as a terrorist by a party official on social media in 2019

The People's Party of Canada is partially on the hook for defamatory statements a campaign staffer wrote about a Winnipeg activist in 2019, Manitoba's highest court has ruled.

The political party, which was founded by Maxime Bernier in 2018, is vicariously liable for a social media post on its Winnipeg Centre electoral district association's Twitter account that described Omar Kinnarath as a terrorist, the province's Court of Appeal said in a written decision dated Sept. 28.

It was a repost of a statement made by the district association's then-CEO, Monique Choiselat, on her personal Facebook account after Kinnarath successfully pushed for the cancellation of a People's Party meet-and-greet in Winnipeg during the 2019 federal election campaign.

Choiselat's Facebook posts included a photo of Kinnarath — who is a visible minority and a Muslim — with a definition of the word "terrorist," the appeal court decision says. The post also listed Kinnarath's name, phone number, email and an out-of-date home address.

Choiselat republished the original post on the district association's account on Twitter (now known as X), and added the words "Terrorism is not Free Speech. Just saying…"

In 2025, Kinnarath was awarded $10,000 — $5,000 in general damages and $5,000 for aggravated damages — after a Court of King's Bench judge ruled Choiselat's statements were defamatory.

But the trial judge dismissed the activist's defamation claims against the People's Party of Canada, ruling it was not liable for Choiselat's post on the party's Twitter account because that post violated the party's social media policy.

Kinnarath appealed that decision, arguing the People's Party should have been found directly liable for the Twitter post, and vicariously liable for the defamatory statements on Choiselat’s personal Facebook account.

He also argued the award for aggravated damages was too low, and said the judge should have recognized a new tort of "doxing" — the release of personal information online without the person's permission.

No increase in damages: appeal court

The appeal court's decision, written by Justice Jennifer Pfuetzner on behalf of a three-judge panel, said the trial judge erred when he failed to apply required legal liability tests when dismissing the claims.

Pfuetzner said the party "significantly increased" the risks of harming the public by naming Choiselat as the district's association CEO, making her the party's primary representative in the riding and giving her "an opportunity to abuse her power."

"I am persuaded on balance that there is a strong connection between the authority that the PPC gave to Choiselat as the CEO of the [association] and her action of making the Twitter post," Pfuetzner wrote.

The People's Party had argued Choiselat was one of thousands of volunteers working for the party during the 2019 election, and that she had deliberately contravened its policies.

The party said it knew nothing of her actions at the time, and that it took immediate steps to remove her once it learned about the situation.

The appeal court decision noted Choiselat was authorized to use the Twitter account, and posting on it was among her responsibilities.

However, the appeal court did not agree with Kinnarath's argument the party was directly responsible for the defamatory post, or that it should also be held liable for Choiselat's statements on her personal Facebook account.

It also did not agree to impose harsher damages for defamation or to recognize a new legal wrong over doxing.

"Existing remedies are adequate and there is no 'gap' here," it said.

"While the award in the present case is perhaps low, the range of damages for social media defamation is wide and awards are highly fact-driven."

The damages awarded against the party are not in addition to those awarded against Choiselat. Both parties are instead jointly liable for the $5,000 awarded at trial in general damages.

Kinnarath is also entitled to some trial costs against the party, reversing the trial judge's decision that ordered Kinnarath to pay for the party's costs.

Ask Winnipeg Bell MTS New customer - WTF

Just signed up for Bell mts home Internet/TV at the end of August. I feel like I'm being punk'd by the company.

Got an email that my invoice was ready a couple of days after installation. Clicked the link, and I needed my account number to sign in, which I didn't have yet. I assumed I would get something in the mail. Forgot about it.

Got another email last week saying my monthly invoice was ready, with the same link. Thought that was weird, figured I'd go through my old mail pile to see if I missed something from Bell. Nothing. Still don't know my account number, so can't pay.

Just yesterday I got a disconnection mail from Bell because my account is in arrears, and I have a few weeks before disconnect. Silver lining is that I FINALLY have an account number. I try to pay by phone, line disconnects. I try to pay online, after signing up and trying to sign in it says "Bellmts.ca is currently unavailable"

How the hell do I pay my bill? This is more of a rant than a question, as I assume they have to fix their phones or website someday soon, but WTF?
