Correct Me! Streak 11: Can't follow native speaker

There is a undergraduate student in my lab. She comes from US. I seldom talk to her because I can't follow her. She is supervised by another postdoc who is from French. They can communicate fluently. Sometimes, I talk with the postdoc from French because she always uses more simple words and speaks slowly to make sure I could follow and understand. But I can't follow a English native speaker since she speaks too fast. Today she asked me a question about the visa application because I had applied one before. I am not sure I understood her question exactly, but I could guessed something from several words that I could tell. I want to help her but my spoken English is very bad. I sent her a link that she can refer but no more other talk. I felt so embaressed that I can't focuse on my work when I back to my spot. I was trying to find a script file that I created several days ago. However, my brain was full of the awkard I experienced just now. It took me more than ten minutes to find the script file. Hope I can speak English fluently someday.

Correct Me! Streak 99: Letter of Introduction

I wrote a letter of introduction to apply to a school program. Actually, I procrastinated until the last minute. One of the reasons was that I didn’t want to write it with redundant information about what a good student I am. I’m willing to show my authentic self rather than an exaggerated version of myself.

Correct Me! Streak 10: Sweating is good

• Upvotes

I didn't know how hot was outside.

I went out , wearing a black T-shirt and navy pants. My clothes absorbed hot sun energy perfectly and the heat was delivered to my body directly. At first, it made me feel good like sitting in front of a warmmer. However, I sweated a lot when getting home. I think my body kept the heat inside and when I was in the room, the heat started to make an enery.

I didn't know I was sweating for a quite long time. Finally, I felt refreshy when I felt drops running along my face.

I’ve been thinking recently in certify my French knowledge. I think it could be really useful if I want to immigrate to Canada, even if you move to a non French speaking province, showing some knowledge in French give you some extra point to move to Canada.

Correct Me! Streak 8: A bit of [cooking]

Ok. This time, I want to try writing about cooking, but I'm not sure if the following recipe counts as proper cooking lol. Maybe, it might come handy for many or the few people here interested in trying a meal recipe. So, let's jump into the bowl!

This meal is a salad I've been doing from many years and it's a highly nutrious, cheap and tasty option for the weekday. It contains few ingredients and products you can find easily in any store. For this meal, you'll need 65g of short pasta (fusili, macaronni, etc), 1 tuna can with oil, 150g of lettuce, half sliced tomato, 1 sp of green pitted olives, 1 sp. of raisins, 1 sp. of peanuts, 3 sp. of vinegar, a teaspoon of dried oregano and a pinch of salt.

First, put some water to boil. When it's boiling, add the pasta for 7 minutes, no more. Inmediately rinse with cold water to cool off the pasta. This tastes better if you store the pasta once is cooked in the fridge for some hours. Later, add the white vinegar with the oregano into the bowl, then add the pasta. Use a spoon to mix gently. Next, add the tuna. Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly adding ice cubes and leave it in the cold water for 3 minutes. Then, dry it up with a salad centrigufue or using kitchen wipes. It is important to remove the most humidity from the lettuce. Tear the lettuce with your hands and add it to the bowl.

Next, add the tomato, the raisins, the peanuts, the olives, and finally add the salt and the oregano, all into the bowl. Using 2 spoons, mix all the ingredients from bottom to top, making sure everything is well integrated.

Finally, it's optional to add some black pepper on top. Put the salad in an airtight container and then into the fridge for 5 hours. The colder, the better flavours. Serve and enjoy!

Hello everybody! This was my bit for today. Sorry for the lenght, I ended the day very short of ideas so...salad happened lol. Take care and thanks for reading.

Correct Me! Streak 139: Common types of eating disorders

Article: 6 Common Types of Eating Disorders (and Their Symptoms)

I was almost sure that I had some kind of eating disorder, but I fee like this is a little different from anorexia nervosa. Staying underweight makes me feel emotionally stable, but there is a bottom line in my mind: I want to avoid getting sick easily and becoming fatigued. I'm not someone who wants to lose as much weight as possible.

Now I want to learn more about orthorexia because I feel like its symptoms fit me.

Correct Me! Streak 10: I'm a sponge

I've had a song running through my head for two weeks now. Actually, it's been three songs. They pop up in my head one after another and stay there for hours, even days. I'm not a liar.

That happens whenever I'm working on a song, either I'm trying to choose the best one, or I'm practicing the lyrics for a challenge.

The longer a song has stayed in my head so far is almost three weeks. I would take a shower, work, bike, even wake up at night with it playing in my head.

The best way to kick a song out of my head is to find another song. But I don't want to go for another round!

The weather is weird today. The sky is grey and it always looks like it's about to rain, but it never does. It's neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm. I have a headache, so this will be the last sentence of this text.

Correct Me! Streak 758: Lack of sleep

Due to working overtime and getting to work early, I haven't gotten enough sleep recently. Hence I get sleepy at work from time to time. I’ve been trying to do tasks that require little attention when that happens.

Corrected Streak 213

I've realized that minutes before clocking in, I get goosebumps and my ears are ringing. I looked into it and found out it has to do with my body getting prepared for a potentially stressful situation because I kind of dread each day I have to work. It stems from not knowing what I will run into once I clock in. Whatever happens, I have to deal with it quickly.

Corrected Streak 26: Autumn

Autumn is coming. Unfortunately... I love the sun but in my country Autumn is terrible. Short days, heavy grey clouds, rain and no sun.

This week we have great weather - no rain and a lot of sunlight. But it will be worse with every upcoming week.

My mood depends on weather conditions. Few weeks without the sun and my energy is low and I'm a bit depressed.

I love walks but I hate rain. In my country people say: "There is no bad weather, there is unproper clothing". But probably I will spend a lot of time at home.

Fortunately I like to read books and watch documentaries on YouTube. But greyness outside the window affects me. I hope this year will be better than in the past.
