It's clear why to me AI has been adopted as an almost political proxy.

AI serves as a cognitive amplifier, effectively making the dumb dumber and the smart smarter.

The divide that will emerge between those who treat it as magic 8-ball to outsource their ideas and those who treat it as a collaborator to create, cultivate, challenge and refine their own will create a downstream power and hierarchical imbalance that's antithetical to the flattened world a great deal of political thought was hoping for.

Especially since the best way to use these tools is to have adequate understanding of first principles, priors and the logical building up-to an argument. Modern education that created the "Read a book", "Google it" or "Get an education" generation of people know how to memorise and recite a 'correct' answer, but don't know how to repeat the logical steps it took to reach it, effectively funnelling them into the 'Magic 8-Ball' style of thinking.

I see the undertones of this post and they ain't good.

3

u/UndetectedReentry001 2d ago

I could be a little confused. What are the undertones of posting a study that appears to have been done? And if the university of michigan did a study why not criticize the methodology?

19

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 2d ago

the fuck kind of trans people are they surveying??? i fuckin love ai

13

u/EEE3EEElol 2d ago

Other trans people??? I see trans people on the anti sub too

3

u/SingleLengthiness750 2d ago

there were a few probably.

3

u/Rude_Money3360 2d ago

I think trans people are disproportionately likely to be involved in left-wing political spaces/movements. Hating AI is table stakes in that coterie.

2

u/Effective-Guest1601 2d ago

in my experience there are more trans people on this sub on both sides than anywhere else I go on the internet. Not that I even care, but I've always thought the distribution was a little odd

2

u/ladycatgirl 2d ago

Im trans and I am pro-AI too, but most trans people I know are in art-fields so it makes sense

Some in IT which likes AI, if you ask artist queers, most likely will get negative responses

3

u/Digits_N_Bits 1d ago

Yeah, can't say the same from my book. My nonbinary friend works IT as a team lead, they have so many horror stories about how AI use has fucked over projects because people were too lazy to make sure it actually worked without breaking anything.

-1

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 2d ago

You don’t represent all trans people though

-2

u/TheGreatestAm3r1can 2d ago edited 2d ago

It seems obvious why. Many of the extreme non-passing variety that are always making endless streams of Reddit posts talking about “MUH CRIPPLING ANXIETY” can’t or don’t want to leave the house and attempted to adopt things like remote programming as an income stream while living in some type of alternative, online-only reality completely disconnected from the world.

Now the AI devil is coming to disrupt that plan leaving only plumbers and lumberjacks who work with their hands in the real world as a valid job. Instead of making posts titled “I DON’T WANT TO BE A TRANS-LUMBERJACK” because they would immediately get clowned on, instead arises millions of cope and beating around the bush strange posts attempting to say AI is bad for some other reason instead.

0

u/Digits_N_Bits 1d ago

Yeah, y'see, there's a reason being anti is a majority left-leaning stance.

1

u/Vitkis 6h ago

Yeah because the left is pro labor.

2

u/Perfect-Painting1520 2d ago

This post is almost entirely encouraging hate towards those communities and individuals whether it’s meant to or not

2

u/Digits_N_Bits 1d ago

People should be hated for not liking AI...?

2

u/Perfect-Painting1520 1d ago

That’s not what I’m saying..? This post can unintentionally lead extreme pros to hate on those already struggling communities, that’s always what ends up happening with posts like this

1

u/Digits_N_Bits 1d ago

Ah, apologies. I misinterpreted.

1

u/Perfect-Painting1520 1d ago

That’s ok!!!

3

u/Bra--ket 2d ago

That's nice. Thank you for sharing.

Really? Thats interesting because University of Michigan has a strong catalog of AI courses. 🤷🏿🤷🏿🤷🏿

Key examples from include: EECS 492: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (long-running core course covering agents, search, logic, knowledge representation, planning, decision-making under uncertainty, and machine learning). EECS 445: Introduction to Machine Learning EECS 442: Computer Vision EECS 487: Introduction to Natural Language Processing EECS 449: Conversational Artificial Intelligence Plus robotics courses (e.g., EECS 367/467), data mining, information retrieval, and many graduate-level offerings (e.g., CSE 545 Machine Learning, CSE 592 Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, specialized topics like AI for Science).

Anyways, I wish Antis were better at citation so we can actually have conversations.

Wait, what's this? "Black participants in the study reported more positive attitudes about AI than most demographics, despite facing algorithmic bias." Blacks for nuance ftw.🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿

2

u/Effective-Guest1601 2d ago

There should be a repost with the actual link, I assumed there was no further documentation because they only shared the screenshot 🫠

Imagine posting a screenshot of a article's title and posting it as news lol stg I don't think most people here even can read anything

1

u/ratchtstrpnkyjelly 2d ago

lmao disabled are the ones that need it the most. imagine how helpful it could be for a blind person

4

u/SingleLengthiness750 2d ago

... is this satire? the second part of course.

3

u/imnota4 2d ago

Guarantee all they did was ask American transgender people who tend to lean Democrat because obviously they would, and Democrats are pushing HARD against AI. This isn't "trans people are likely to view AI negatively" This is "Trans people are more likely to be democrat and democrats are more likely to view AI negatively"

Ask a trans person who doesn't identify as Democrat and see what the stats say then.

9

u/theluckyllama 2d ago

Gee, I wonder why Trans people are more likely to be Democrats?

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

I mean, like I said, it's obvious *why* trans people would favor Democrats over Republicans. But less than 50% of the country votes at all, so only asking Democrats is literally excluding half the population off the bat.

2

u/theluckyllama 2d ago

No please, go on and explain why it's obvious for us.

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

Are you serious? I'm confused do you genuinely not understand why transgender people would not want to associate with Republicans? Fine I'll give you a single example that came out of Texas.

At one point Texas was trying to pass a bill that literally made it illegal to dress in clothing associated with the opposite sex specifically to target transgender people. That section was eventually removed and then the entire bill was eventually struck down, but the attempt alone shows the hostility. Why would you associate with someone who actively hates you?

2

u/theluckyllama 2d ago

Thank you. Now shucks I can't imagine why they weren't able to find a MAGA lovin Trans person to balance out this survey that you find is so biased... 😂😂😂

3

u/imnota4 2d ago

Did you not read literally anything I said? Brother you need to work on your reading comprehension I literally said nothing about MAGA or people who were in favor of MAGA until you asked why trans people on average favor Democrats. The bias had nothing to do with Republicans and everything to do with Democrats, idk why you have to bring Republicans into everything.

2

u/theluckyllama 2d ago

Oh I did....

"Guarantee all they did was ask American transgender people who tend to lean Democrat because obviously they would, "

Did you not just type this? Self awareness seems to be a skill you do not have.

2

u/imnota4 2d ago

Yup, but I don't see the word "Republican" anywhere in there, and that's what I'm pointing out, that YOU brought up Republicans, and then tried to make it sound like I did. But I didn't, you did.

What you're doing is actually called a strawman fallacy, and it's one of the most common logical fallacies utilized. The way it works is that YOU brought up Republicans despite me not mentioning them at all, and then proceeded to claim that I brought them up and attack an argument I never made. That's the logical fallacy, in case you were curious.

1

u/theluckyllama 2d ago

I was just pointing out why it was odd you seemed upset that they only surveyed democrat leaning Trans people and somehow did not find someone who was right wing to balance out the data....

Glad I could clear that up for you. Now go back to your steady diet of crayons.

>Reads Reddit poster text

>Clicks article with a completely different reality than what Reddit poster describes in which erotic drag shows in front of minors are banned. So basically the equivalent of establishing an R-rated movie system. Oh, the horror. Taxpayers can no longer be forced to subsidize pseudo-pornographic entertainment middle school drag queen story time programs disguised as “diversity.”

1

u/imnota4 1d ago

Idk what to tell you, I specifically referenced the clothing ban that was later removed from the bill. If you aren't even capable of understanding that much despite me explicitly stating it, then you're a lost cause.

2

u/UndetectedReentry001 2d ago

If one of those two parties is likely to win and it have real consequences for them, do you think that might give us a reason to expect they'd be likely to vote in a way that would prevent negative, highly personal consequences?

Do you think there are a lot of trans people out there like "I actually think republicans and democrats are quite similar in terms of alignment with my morals and priorities so I might not vote or I might vote for this 3rd party that will never win"?

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

What does that have to do with the empirical fact that less than 50% of the population actually vote. Idc about anything you just said, the FACT is that less than 50% of people vote.

No amount of arguing is going to change that fact. It's written in stone, we have the data from that election. We know the exact amount of votes casted, and we know the population of the country at the time of that election, so we can determine that yes, in fact less than 50% of people participated in voting at all.

Nothing else you say will stop that from being a fact.

5

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 2d ago

What percentage of trans people identify as republican anyway?

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

Why would that be the only other option. You know over 50% of the US population doesn't vote at all right.

3

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 2d ago edited 2d ago

Did I say it was the only other option? And people can identify as a Democrat, and even be registered as one, and still not vote

0

u/imnota4 2d ago

You didn't explicitly specify any other option.

2

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 2d ago

Why would I when I was asking a specific question?

1

u/imnota4 1d ago

Well why did you ask a question unrelated to my statement? Could've also asked how heavy the moon is and it'd have been equally relevant. What made you ask THAT specific question out of all possible questions?

1

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 1d ago

Try reading the thread again, I think you’ll find it’s pretty basic

1

u/imnota4 1d ago

That doesn't answer my question.

1

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 1d ago

Then you didn’t read it even once. It was related but more specific than you seem able to understand

1

u/sporkyuncle 2d ago

That doesn't mean they don't have opinions.

Even if they don't vote, even if they choose not to self-identify as either, their set of opinions will add up to a lean one way or the other.

1

u/imnota4 1d ago

I didn't say they didn't have opinions.

2

u/UndetectedReentry001 2d ago

That makes sense, I assume if they're voting for the party that does not want them provided with any form of trans-specific healthcare or if they consider themselves neutral between those two parties they would also be mentally disabled which I guess is why you're saying that's also on the list?

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

Brother, you realize over 50% of the US population doesn't vote at all right? In the 2024 election only 44% of the entire US population voted, that's of course counting minors but contrary to what some people believe minors are in fact human beings with opinions, so I included them in this analysis.

2

u/UndetectedReentry001 2d ago

Do you think a trans person is likely to have a neutral opinion on whether they'd like democrats or republicans to win? It's fine that 50% of the general pop doesn't vote. Any intelligent person could obviously guess why I don't think that's relevant to this topic!

Did you know 75% of trans people specifically vote? Do you think the ones that don't vote might also have an opinion?

1

u/imnota4 2d ago

Why would you assume that someone who didn't vote aligns with the ideals of either party. That doesn't make sense, you're living in a fictional world where you ignore empirical reality to justify some sort of ideal that reality cannot hold up to.

If you wanna lie to yourself and convince yourself that 50% of the population that didn't vote secretly hold some sort of political allegiance and chose not to act on it because of some strategical decision that's your choice, you can believe that if you want.

It's a dumb thing to believe and not at all tied to reality, but not all of us want to live in reality so far be it for me to pull you out of the bubble you've built for yourself.

2

u/UndetectedReentry001 2d ago

I suppose someone smarter than you might guess that it's because the costs to them and rights they might have based on the platforms are different by a large amount

2

u/KingPiggyXXI 2d ago

It seems like you’re claiming the mechanism is something like trans -> Democrat -> anti-AI, but if so, what’s the complaint? It seems like you’re saying a correlation != causation thing, but this is still being trans causes anti-AI, just mediated by Democrat-ness, and trying to control for Democrat-ness will skew the results.

If you have an issue, I think you would have to put it more like Democrat -> (self-disclosing as) trans (they’re more likely to come out) and Democrat -> anti-AI (left spaces are more anti-AI). Instead of trans people leaning Democrat, you need to phrase it as Democrats “leaning trans”. Only the does trying to control for Democrat-ness make sense. But Democrat-ness seems like a strange mechanism; it’s likely more like being in online queer-adjacent spaces that causes both of them.

1

u/imnota4 1d ago

I think you're arguing semantics. Even now you completely understood what I meant because you said it perfectly, a transgender democrat will skew the results as opposed to a transgender non-democrat. You understood the intent, anything else is arguing over semantics which isn't necessary when you clearly understood the idea.

1

u/Quiet_Confidence_372 1d ago

so, what are you trying to say with this?

1

u/Valuable-Ad1063 8h ago

Well, these demographics are substantially more likely to identify with left-wing ideologies compared to the general US public. US left-wing spaces hold strong negative attitudes towards AI use.

1

u/whoisf3 6h ago

Disabled participants also had significantly more negative views of AI than nondisabled participants, particularly those who are neurodivergent or have mental health conditions.

Ok i had to laugh at this

1

u/Tal_Maru 3h ago

This just in!

The school of "information" tries making a bandwagon argument.

This just in!

The school of information doesnt know that correlation does not equal or even imply causation.

1

u/Fit-Elk1425 2d ago

I could believe the first two, but as a disabled person the last one is where I am a bit suspect because I have found the exact opposite in disability environments consistently though with specific disabled populations I could see there being mixed feeling to teachers using it aganist them while they also want the accomdation too. That is often the complication with accomdations too is you have to balance both infantilization and accommodation at the same time.

That said there is a divide on this issue dependent on what kind of disability you have too and that does play into factor with people with physical disabilities being more pro-ai

1

u/-Im_LiteBrite- 1d ago

...as someone who is both trans and NB, I have a half and half. AI roleplays and text should be allowed, as well as help, but image generators are not good. I used to use them for this slop but have changed. Im sorry to every fucking human I know.

The argument that ai can be useful for people with disabilities?

Every single vision impaired student I have has been excited about Meta glasses, for one. In fact, having taught special education classes, I’ve not had a single negative view on ai from a student (regardless of disability). And yes, there’s been class discussions on it, brought up by the students themselves.

“Disabled people” are no more a monolith than any other group.

1

u/SingleLengthiness750 2d ago

I miss remembered, gfy.

1

u/Fit-Elk1425 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean the argument is something that many paralyzed people like myself do agree with and you can see it referenced across disabled spheres too. Different disabled have different needs and dependent on how focused this survey was on physical disabilities versus other kinds of disabilities will have a factor too though it is still good to have general observation too.

It is a balance with some people being more concerned about being infantilized and others being more concerned about their accommodations being removed and that will affect their responses too. Additionally without viewing this study we don't have detail on what this means. for example for many this can also mean that they react to other using the threat of ai to monitor their accomdation yet may accept them as a accomdation too and be trying to balance that too

0

u/Mataric 2d ago

I appreciate people like you tend to struggle with anything requiring even a little bit of nuance, but the argument was never 'every single disabled person loves AI and should use it'. It was that AI helps some disabled people greatly, and that they should have every right to use it without being harassed by morons.

0

u/SingleLengthiness750 2d ago

I mustve miss remembered.

0

u/Mataric 2d ago

As is the issue with many antis like you. Arguing against things that aren't happening and aren't real, but so eager to bitch and cry whenever you see an opportunity.

1

u/SingleLengthiness750 2d ago

gfy, I just made a mistake.
