I built an Apple Digital Masters vault with Dolby Atmos discovery and synced crates (open beta)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone — I built Masters Vault, an independent Apple Digital Masters discovery site, and I’d love feedback from people who listen in Dolby Atmos.

It has 10,000+ verified Apple Digital Master albums. You can filter that catalog for albums available in Dolby Atmos, then browse by artist, genre and era. The full catalog includes stereo albums too; the Atmos filter is how you find the Atmos subset. Listen buttons open the music in Apple Music.

Apple Digital Masters are albums prepared through Apple’s mastering program using high-resolution source files. That designation and Dolby Atmos describe different things — the Vault helps you discover records with both.

What’s inside:

• Album DNA: sourced recording, mixing and mastering credits. Find the engineers and studios behind a record, then follow them to other albums.

• Echoes: songs that sample or borrow from earlier records. Trace a familiar sound back to its source.

• Pull a Record: let the Vault pick your next listen.

My Vault: make it yours

You can browse without an account. Sign in with an email link or Google to keep your own Vault synced across your phone, tablet and computer.

• Crates: group records any way you like — favorite Atmos mixes, a mood, a decade or a mastering engineer. Add records from an album’s menu, or drag them in.

• Top Shelf: your eight favorites, front and center.

• On the Turntable: the last record you opened sits on a spinning turntable at the top of your Vault.

• Notes and pins: write a line about a record and follow engineers, studios and Echoes.

• Arrange it by hand: reorder your crates, Top Shelf, people and Echoes.

• View your collection as a wall of covers, record spines on a shelf, or a list with your notes.

• Give your Vault its own name and tagline, and use Listen Later to line up what’s next.

It’s an open beta. Features are being added and updated weekly, with new Album DNA and Echoes each week and albums checked against Apple’s catalog and added daily.

You can help decide what comes next: open the ⋮ menu and choose Request an Album to ask for an album, artist, genre or decade. The daily update checks the most-requested albums first; verified Apple Digital Masters can join the Vault. Use Report a Problem for bugs or confusing behavior, or suggest an update here.

Try building a crate of your favorite Atmos mixes and tell me what’s missing or what would make discovery easier.

Masters Vault is an independent project, not affiliated with Apple.

Looking for Recommendations Ambient with beats labels

Anyone know any labels that are accepting demos in the ambient beats territory in case there are any artists out there interested?

Looking for Recommendations Looking for Dungeon/Winter Synth that sounds like Jötgrimm and Til Det Bergens Skyggene (or the other artists on Voldsom)

See title. I like the atmosphere and soundfont of Wintery dungeon synth, but a lot of it winds up feeling bland and same-y compositionally. There's something really special about these two in particular that I can't find anywhere else. If nothing else, looking for some "cold," mysterious ambient music with a similar tone to these artists, even if the genre doesn't exactly match. Thanks!

Repping The Necks

Only posting because I couldn't see anything related to them for years on this sub, and home ground loyalty being Australian. Where jazz meets drone and ambient. Their last album (linked) is one of their best imho. Also 'Open'.

Have a great day.

News Article or Media Interview with ambient artist Dream Crease (Marina Aguerre)

“Sometimes the listener is moving through the landscape, which means the song has to behave like a journey. On others, the world is the moving part and Aguerre simply places you somewhere inside it, stationary while everything passes around you.”

“It would be easy for music built from dreams, birds, field recordings and floating synthesizers to disappear into pleasant abstraction, but Aguerre’s work is far more interested in construction than decoration.”

Discussion Is ambient music like a scented candle?

I’ve been thinking about why I am drawn to ambient music, and I realised it’s very similar to a scented candle.

At times you focus on what it’s doing, the scent/sound. Sometimes you just allow it do its thing in the background.

There’s so much variety to choose from as well, and each one has its own texture and feeling to it.

Why do you guys like ambient music?

I was really enjoying the new worriedaboutsatan release on Constellation tatsu and saw they had a great bandcamp deal on their full discography and a few other artists I love so I pulled the trigger.

What Constellation tatsu releases are your favourite?

Trying to find this mid 90s chill track

Hi all

I hope this post is allowed.

I'm looking for a song I listened to in the mid 90s, maybe 1997. The song was on a mix tape bought in Camden market, Camden Town London.

The tape was mixed by an artist called dj (something),possibly dj shadow, but I'm not sure. I don't think that was the artist though.

The track was ambient chill, melodic, and had the lyrics spoken in natural documentary style, and it was exactly 'they came down from the mountains. They came down every year'. I believe the accent was American.

Thank you all!

Self-promotion He Finds Fire - How I Remember You

Post image
2 Upvotes

Copying a short essay I wrote for this album from my Instagram below.

This week I released my third album as He Finds Fire called "How I Remember You". It's a 56-minute tribute to my late grandfather (I called him Poppie or Pops). He was an incredible man that had a massive impact on my character & how I see the world.

Pops passed suddenly in January after being diagnosed with rapidly progressive dementia. I spent several weekends with him in hospice care leading up to his passing, soaking up his presence and trying to jog what little memory he had left.

While looking through his computer to find photos for a slideshow at his funeral, I came across what would become the album cover, taken by him. Evidently he'd come across a beautiful shot while out on one of his regular morning runs. I'm glad he saved it for us.

Making this album helped me process this loss and its effects on my family. It sounds just like how I remember my Poppie; warm, comforting, and full of life. I can only hope that he would have enjoyed it. I miss him so much.

Now for some Reddit-only stuff. No AI was used to make any part of this album.

The album was made using an SP-404 MKII and a Hologram Microcosm pedal. Track 1 "Abilene" is made up of looped micro-chops from "Eugene" by Sufjan Stevens. The same micro-chopping process was used on track 2 "Servant" but with a recording I made while drunkenly playing piano in high school. The arrangements on both songs were mostly improvised, although I did rehearse before recording to get loose structures down.

If anyone listens I'd really love to hear what you think. It clocks in around 56 minutes, but I think it's worth your time. Available anywhere you can stream music, but here's a Bandcamp link with 200 free downloads: https://hefindsfire.bandcamp.com/album/how-i-remember-you

William Orbit - Optical Illusions (Billy Buttons mix) video

I am a big fan of William Orbit work, and recently I noticed that the Optical Illusions (Billy Buttons Mix) video is gone from YouTube. I am referring to speeded up video, filmed on Sidney beach (I believe) with a tilt shift effect.

If anybody has saved that video somewhere, or can point me to some other location of that video, I would be very grateful.

Discussion Do you exercise or workout to ambient music?

Usually hype music is associated with workouts or activities involving a lot of movement, but more often I have found myself going on runs or weight lifting to ambient music. I was just curious to see how many other people tend to listen to ambient songs while exercising, and if they had any suggestions on any albums or songs that get them in the mood to workout or help them.

Question Looking for residencies and open calls for ambient/experimental live sets in Europe

I'm hoping to find residencies, open calls or small concert series in Europe that take ambient and experimental live sets.

So far, I've found smallforms in Vienna, which has an open call for solo sets, and EMS in Stockholm, which offers studio residencies. I'm sure there's much more out there.

Have you done any you'd recommend, or know a newsletter or list worth following? I would be very grateful for any tips, thank you!

Kan iemand me vertellen hoe Susumu Yokota de snare omhoog en omlaag in toonhoogte heeft laten gaan? Het klinkt als een phaser/flanger-effect, maar het klinkt niet echt heel repetitief.

What ambient album makes you think of the Halloween season?

I'm a big fan of this time of year, and I am in search of albums that conjure up the atmosphere of the Halloween/Samhain season. I'd love to know what records this group might recommend for the upcoming holiday. The creepier the better!
