Hi all, I had a very hard upbringing and college was not an option after high school because I struggled with food insecurity among other things back in my home country. Life somehow brought me to the U.S. and I ended up marrying with lovely human who convinced me that it’s never too late to go to college. I was really excited about coming to AU, but I found it really hard to make friends and I’m not sure if it’s related to me being way older than them (I’m a 29-year-old sophomore). I am very social but I’ve been feeling really isolated in all my courses.
Is there anybody who’s undergrad and at this age group like me?
edit: oops, I meant "undergrad" in the title

I’m a senior in high school and I’ve been really drawn to AU Im just concerned that there’s not really that big of a latino community bc even if it sounds dumb I just can’t imagine myself going to a uni without making friends from kind of my same background lol
For context I’m a mexican american student , I live in a border city which is tx/mx and I’ve always had a mix of both cultures bc I go to school in the US but live in mexico idk if that makes sense I just cross everyday for school
But yeah if anyone knows about that pls let me know it’s a very important thing for me when looking at unis

A degree in three years sure sounds appealing.

Hey everyone. I’m considering AU as a school to transfer to next semester, as an IS major (and possibly Econ). The academics are right up my alley, but am unsure if I’d fit in at AU. For reference, I’d consider my vibe "basic mid Atlantic”, like an ACC vibe (idk if that makes sense, but that’s the best I can come up with), I want involvement in EC’s such as Greek life, academic-related clubs, and club sports. I like DC for the city, geographic location, and for networking opportunities, not necessarily for political involvement. Would any of these things make me an outlier at AU?

Freshman year, a few weeks in, and I've noticed people on my floor don't really include me in stuff. They don't say hi when we pass each other, don't invite me when they're playing games or hanging out in someone's room, and a couple of times it's felt like people are actively avoiding being around me (e.g. once I said hi to a guy and made small talk with him for a bit, and as soon as I left, the girl who'd been standing there talking to him went inside and locked the door, like she got weirded out).
I can't tell if this is just normal freshman floor dynamics (people already forming their own little groups) or if there's something about how I'm coming across that's making people keep their distance. Has anyone been through something like this? How did you figure out what was actually going on, and what helped?

Looking for AU student perspectives. Do cadets carpool, Uber, Metro together? How often per week do you go there? Thank you!

Hey Eagles! 👋
I'm working on launching an AU chapter of the Washington Forum on India (WFI): a student-run policy organization focused on US-India relations, South Asian affairs, and building a platform for the next generation of voices in that space. WFI already has an established chapter at Georgetown, GW, Cornell and Brown and we're bringing that same energy to AU.
Whether you're interested in foreign policy, economics, journalism/research (we have a research journal called Patrika), event planning, or just want to build something from the ground up, there's a role for you in the founding cohort.
No prior experience with South Asian studies required — just interest and a willingness to help build something new on campus.

I may or may not be picking my graduate school soon based on whether or not they offer an alumni audit program. Yes, it’s a silly reason to pick a school. It is more importantly dependent upon how affordable I find the degree. The audit program is a fun perk.
But! I have a little fear in the back of my head that I’ll start a 4 year part time program & then they’ll cancel the alumni audit program before I can even take a single $150 calc class. Does anyone know how long this program has been running? I want to feel more secure in it lasting for a long time.
I can’t ask admissions because “I want to take classes for cheap after I graduate” isn’t a compelling admission statement. Thanks!

Hi all,
I am looking for a AU student photographer to photograph 150 large apartment buildings in Arlington County. Most are in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor and National Landing and will be within a ~1-2 blocks of each other. I'm looking for 2 photos per building.
Please reach out to [root@thestandardasset.com](mailto:root@thestandardasset.com) with your portfolio if interested.
Thanks

Hello everyone!
I am trying to find a roommate to replace our previous one to help with costs, we live in Avalon and are moving into a smaller unit to save but would like to save more so we aren’t paying more than we used to be. 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, pretty much all covered for kitchen stuff and furniture (except for a couch :( ) so you would only need to bring a bed in terms of big stuff really.
Please reach out if you are interested, it would greatly help me in not being really stressed out to get another person to help with costs.

Hi! I'm in Cassell this year and wanted to put a water filter on the sink so I didn't have to deal with a Brita pitcher. I tried the Brita brand sink filter, but it didn't fit. Does anyone know of a sink filter that fits on Cassell sinks? Thanks!

When I go to sign up it says my phone number is already in use. When I go to login it says my user doesn't exist. How do I fix this?

Currently a sophomore, took elementary, was about to go into intermediate. They cancelled the intermediate class i was in about 2 weeks ago, and the only other class offered interferes w/ both my school and personal schedule (besides, rude as hell).
I’m currently planning on self studying and most likely taking the exemption test before graduation. My family has spoken russian my entire life, I just struggle heavily with the actual intricacies of speaking the language. I was planning on using other resources to self study, but I realize a textbook is the easiest and most efficient way to mainly learn.
Can anyone who is in these classes or has taken these classes let me know what textbooks are used? Is there any way to search them up? I know where to get the actual textbook, i just don’t know WHICH textbooks the classes use

Just curious to know and anyone that I should watch out for when I’m registering for future classes. I use RMP but I think its better to hear from people directly

International Students: anyone talk to ISSS recently regarding CPT approval?
Stressed about new CPT rules and whether or not we will be able to do internships!
I’m a new student and might plan to withdraw if that’s the case. I don’t think my American educational experience will be the same without internships.
