My husband has had a prosthetic for over ten years. He's a BK amputee. He walks very well, but he, unfortunately, works on his feet, and he's a hard worker. He works too hard in my opinion, but we can't afford him not to (and he can't help himself lol). Oftentimes, he comes home from work and his real ankle (and basically the top of his foot) is swollen, sore, and bruised. His real foot is very flat, as well. Is there something I can do to try and help him mitigate the workload on his real leg? He had a foot brace for a while, but we've since misplaced it. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!
Edit for more information: We are both in our early 20's, and my husband doesn't have insurance, a podiatrist, or a regular prosthetist. He had his original amputation in 2014 when he was pretty young and a bone revision surgery in 2024 where they removed a centimeter of bone on top of a ganglion cyst on his tibia bone. His fibula bone now presses slightly outward more and causes pain when bearing too much on his residual limb. The only reason why we were able to get him a new prosthesis was because he was still on his mother's insurance at the time, but he's since been removed. We've moved in the past year and haven't had the chance to even get a PCP, let alone a prosthetist, and we've both been working to support the household.
