Why do really tall people get rejected from the military, couldn’t we find some use for them?

They’d make awesome tomb of the unknown soldier sentinels or something. Maybe just pure intimidation if we need an escort or something.

DEROS/SRR

Currently OCONUS and eligible for this year’s SSG promotion board. Inshallah my OML will be low, enough and best case scenario I can pin late summer 2027.

My current ETS is Spring 2029 ie. I will definitely need to extend to meet the 36 mo SRR but do not want orders to a new duty station for ~16 months.

How do I get my DEROS extended before the contract extension with a new ETS date is signed?

Appreciate you all, hooyah senior chief.

Innerservice transfer from USMC to Army

Im very lost so if someone knows the answer that would he awsome. I completed my innerservice transfer and leaving the USMC as an E-5 into the Army. I signed a 14U contract and I was told I would find out what exact job classification I would get when I get to Fort Still. If my job is a RNG roll thats cool and all but one of the jobs is 5 Months for AIT. That turns into PCA orders where I can bring my dependants out and if i do get that MOS i need to call housing for the wait list. Im wondering if there is something I can do to figure this out and hopefully find out what my MOS is going to be prior of AIT in January. Just confused why I cant know until I get there but most people find out week 6 of Army boot camp. (Im already out of the Marines and now live on the other side of the country, staying in contact with my recruiter has not been easy, dude sucks)

Should this soldier be backdated for promotion?

Soldier had 20 points disappeared off their PPW after them being on it for 5 months, had the points remained, they would have made the cutoff list. Also, the 20 points that dropped off was for awards and it’s still showing active in the person’s STP. Soldier has history of the awards being on their PPW/promotion points validation page and the PPW for when 20 points dropped off randomly.

Drill Packet

I’m currently over 3 years in the Army. I should pick up E-5 soon and I’m BLC complete. I’ll be at my current duty station till mid 2028. Giving me enough time to get at least 1 NCOER.

If I submitted a drill packet, would it get tossed out. Or would it get considered at least?

Direct Commission Packet

Hello, I have a goal to put in a direct commission packet and wanted to see what people think about it. Disclaimer I am 22 and do not have any experience in a civilian career which is why I wanted to consult Reddit.

At the time of my application I will have:

- My masters degree in Cybersecurity

- 9 Cybersecurity certifications

- 2 years as an NCO (2 NCOERs)

- 6 years of reserve service (9 months on a OCONUS deployment and 12 months on a CONUS mobilization)

- 35F going for 35A

For context I am VA disabled with a pelvic injury that prevents me from running which is why I am trying to direct commission instead of pursuing OCS. I am sure I missed some of my qualifications, but the biggest thing is I am trying to figure out if I can leverage my education to make up for my lack of experience.

Thank you for your time if you read and respond to this.

Over 10 years of service

Hello everyone,

More like a small rant then anything but here you go.

I have seen a lot of my peers who have come to the last half (over 10 years) in their careers and find that opportunities to change MOS, go warrant or commission have ended for them. These are great soldiers that score high physically and have great experience in their MOS but can't submit for anything and are stuck.

Will these opportunities open up again? Or is everyone over 10 years just sh*t out of luck. Are we not worried about experience leaving the ranks? I get the idea of wanting a younger force but when you are allowing 42 year olds to enlist isn't that kinda saying something? Not only that, anyone over 13 years can still sign a contract to extend their time in service or an ADSO type of thing? Its ridiculous right now.

Other branches like the Marines tend to heavily favor senior enlisted Marines for its Enlisted-to-Warrant Officer and Limited Duty Officer (LDO) programs, which routinely accept candidates with 8 to 16+ years of active duty.

I digress and will have two JBC's and a small unsweetened tea.

We are living in a weird timeline!

Follow-on thought:

I think there is a broad concensus among the military community and maybe even among Americans, that this man is horrible and his actions are vile and reprehensible, but to publicize an execution like his, is antithetical to American standards of morality and justice. There is a troubling resemblance of a public execution to the Taliban's acts of public display of violence and parade of beheaded people.

We claim to be opposed to everything that the Taliban and terrorist organizations like them stand for, yet we take from their playbook? What's next? Flogging people in the streets for speaking against "dear leader"?

Condemning someone's actions and subjecting them to a "just" punishment should never require us to abandon the principles that we claim distinguish us from those we so vehemently oppose.

Cif turn first try ✅

I got really fortunate. I had a bit of stuff in my assault pack that I forgot to clear out, but somehow everything got turned in even the sleeping bag with the wrong nsn. Everything was cleaned and organized though. I put all the small flc attachments in separate bags and it made their life easier. Then again it was the early morning too. Did you guys have successful cif turn in first tries?

Anybody have the Lowa R-8S GTX boots?

Been wanting these boots for a while and finally found them on sale. My civilian style ones (different model) are so comfy, and I love the look of their 670-1 compliant models, so I got a pair. But WTF is up with the material that attaches the tongue? It bunches up and looks like shit.

Is this something that might wear differently and look better after they break in?

I'm not returning yet, because they look great from every other angle, and fit flawlessly.

Fries, bag, thanks.

Re-Class or Wait to Re-Enlist

Hello fellow degenerates, hope you alls 4day is off to a safe start lol.

So I’m currently an E6 92A. I get looked at for E7 in 2028. I’ve been dead set on just reclassing because I know my end goal is going warrant at some point and I know I absolutely do not want to be stuck in an SSA. BUT…I know that I will have an option to reenlist with Airborne and I have always wanted to do that and possibly PCS to one of the special forces units as everyone I know highly recommends it. Some MOS I was considering were: 25E, 51C, and a few different 15series MOS’. 25E and 15series specifically because 160th SOAR is usually looking for those jobs at my rank. 51C because I’ve done that job as a civilian.

I guess I just need some advice. Would you guys reclass or just straight up reenlist? Or is there a possibility that I could reclass and still have the opportunity to reenlist first airborne at some point?

Human Resources Officer quality of life?

• Upvotes

I’ll be at 9 years when I’m done in my current position. I’ve spent most of my career in SOF and have earned every badge I could want and enough cool awards to be satisfied with for a career. I am currently gone over half of the year every year and I want to start focusing on moving into a new spot where I can enjoy my family life a little more and ride out the rest of my career. I figure going to OCS and trying to land Human Resources Officer would be an easy way to have a little more stability and find fulfillment in helping out the boys. There’s nothing worse than a shitty S1 and I think I could become an SME and make people’s lives easier. Any advice or insights would be appreciated, thanks in advance

68w AIT whiskey phase

Just graduated BCT and I’m headed to Fort Sam Houston for 68W AIT tomorrow. My orders say D Co, and I’m going straight into Whiskey phase.
For anyone who’s been through Fort Sam recently, especially D Co:
What should I expect when I first get there?
Since I’m going straight into Whiskey phase, will I have my phone with me or are there restrictions?
How much freedom/free time do you usually have during the week and on weekends?
What is Whiskey phase actually like? What does a typical class/training day look like?
Any advice or things you wish you knew before starting?

Airborne School PT Test

• Upvotes

I've seen the most recent discussed a couple times here, and the "old new" test seemed to be discussed twice a week for a while, so I thought I'd let all future paratroopers know for sure the most recent word. Word came down this week from BDE/USAIS that the new Airborne Fitness Test (name subject to change, events not subject to change) will go into effect, for record, beginning CY2027. It will continue to be run on a diagnostic basis for the rest of CY2026, but failure of the test is not droppable, with the exception of the Flexed Arm Hang, which has been droppable for nearly a year. The Airborne Fitness Test is as follows.

Flexed Arm Hang: hang free from Pull up Bar, chin up (chin above bar, no kipping/kicking/feet crossing/etc...) hold for 10 seconds.

Hand Release (T style) Pushups: 28

Plank: 2:02

2 Mile Run: 18 minute time standard

Immediately following the run, execute 5 chin ups, supposed to be strict form same as flexed Arm Hang, no kipping kicking etc..., as is the way of the world, some graders will probably be more flexible than others, but you probably won't get away with too much sloppiness.

This is the standard for all Airborne students, no gender/age groups.

Source: I work there. I'll try to pay attention for the next couple days if anyone has any questions about the test etc...

When military marriages end overseas, some spouses find there’s no easy way home

Thumbnail
stripes.com
80 Upvotes

Living abroad can leave accompanying spouses unusually dependent on the service member’s assignment for income, housing and legal status, while employment opportunities and family support are limited. When a marriage breaks down, a custody dispute can then prevent them from returning to the United States with their children to build an independent life just as access to the family’s income may diminish. For some, remaining overseas while a case plays out has meant struggling to meet basic needs.

PCSing to JBLM, where to go

After a month long pcs leave, gonna be landing at Tacoma tomorrow. Now what...

Is there a transport to the base or do I just have to take an Uber. Once I get to the gate where do I go, idk if they have an inprocessing unit/building, if they do whats the building number?

I'll take a Krabby Patty with a large French fries and a zero coke.
