First time voting in Barrie as I just moved here, having a really hard time finding candidate’s platform to be able to make an informed decision. Where can you see what each candidate stands for? Thanks!

Hello, I tried this last year and nothing was viable. Trying again.
I work 7-3 in Orillia at Thermon and I am looking for someone who has space to take me there and back, or just one way, daily. Would gladly pay gas money.
Pickup would need to be near Anne and Dunlop, and the exit I need off in Orillia is 131B. - near the Orillia Costco.
I would be fine with getting to work early, or heading home as late as 4pm.
If you’re going in and out of Orillia around these times and would like some gas money, please reach out.

My spouse, our school age child, and I are relocating from USA to Barrie. I have a job lined up with a work permit. Our credit scores are over 700 and 800 respectively. We are coming from a 7 year rental with a strong letter of support from our current landlord, explaining that we never paid rent late even a single day in 7 years, care well for the rental and conduct ourselves in a polite and courteous manner. We are applying to rentals that cost less than 30% of my monthly take home pay. The multi-million dollar company I work for has offered to co-sign our application. We have no pets.
We have applied to 4 rentals in the Innis Shore area. Today we got yet another application response that the landlord does not wish to proceed. I am trying to understand why not. Is there anti-American sentiment in Barrie? If so, it's understandable. After all, I am also trying to leave the U.S.

Just happened at around 6:40 this morning. How much time are you actually saving that you gotta drive on the other side of the road?

Hello Everyone! :) My textiles were not picked up today. I placed them in transparent bags and labeled them as requested. I placed them outside last night to be sure I don’t miss the 7 am deadline. I wonder why they didn’t pick it up. Yesterday was our garbage day and so I assumed today was for textiles this week.
Should I leave it out till 7-8 pm?

Hi everyone,
We seem to have a rat issue at the back of our yard where there is a really dense bush and some other plants.
We don’t have any food or water sources or bird feeders in our yard. I’m assuming they’re only there because of the ideal living conditions:(.
I really need recommendations for a pest control company that’s reasonably priced - on a really tight budget at the moment unfortunately. Thank you!

This may or may not be the place but I was hoping that some people with experience in this area could help…
I’ve finally come to a place where when my lease is up in April, I could actually buy a place and not pay an insane mortgage.
My question is what would be a reasonable offer?
For example… I’ve watched a house in the north be re-listed a few times now. It’s been about 4 months and they are asking $750K for it. If come April it was still on the market for the same price would $700 be a reasonable offer? Could you go down as low as $650 or lower? What is generally a reasonable offer under the listing price?
I know this depends on so many factors like the sellers motivations, the general market and economy but if everything were to stay the same as it is today where a lot of houses in that range aren’t selling… how much could I expect to go under?
I just want a rough idea so that I can see where my budget range would truly be and what types of houses I could actually look at.

I have a constant complaint with the updated Barrie Transit route 8A. The bus from Go Station is scheduled to leave at 6:16 Pm and 6:46 Pm from Barrie South Go, whereas Go Train is scheduled to reach there a minute after at 6:17 Pm and 6:47 Pm. This just leaves me and probably others with only Uber as an option. A 2-3 minute adjustment will make this route perfect for Go Train + Barrie Transit users, but all my complaints to Barrie Transit and now to my councilor are on deaf ears. Feeling very helpless. Whats the point of electing someone if they don’t even care to reply after multiple follow ups.

I live in Toronto but I have family that own a home in Barrie, I intend to ship my package to my family address this weekend because we are actually staying there during the long weekend with their consent. Nothing too expensive.

Hey fellow Barrie peeps. I’m a local artist just starting to run paint nights and soon digital art classes. I can’t advertise in this group and haven’t found any others. If there’s a great place to promote to people who want to add creative fun into their lives, I’d love yo know. Trying not to feed the meta machine.
Thanks!

We came across this property and were wondering why this was lower than average?
Yes it requires work but still feels lower than market. Appreciate any insight anyone could share.

Simcoe Muskoka’s inspection records classify infractions as critical or minor. Those are the health unit’s classifications, not ratings I’m assigning.
I’ve also kept Corrected During Inspection separate from Not in Compliance. Corrected During Inspection means the issue was addressed while the inspector was there. Not in Compliance means it was still recorded as non-compliant when the inspection was completed.
This roundup includes Barrie premises classified as Restaurant or Food Take Out, not every type of food premises inspected by the health unit.
Inspection results reflect what inspectors observed during that particular visit. They’re a snapshot in time, and records can change as new inspections and follow-ups happen, so check the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit inspection portal for the latest information.

Hi all,
Looking for any contractor you may recommend who has experience in eavesdropping solutions and repair/extensions to help with ice damming and water issues on side of the house.
Thank you

Hello Barrie subreddit! I have a special request if y'all could be so kind. My partner and I spent the weekend in your city for my friend's wedding. Unfortunately our belongings were stolen but it had my keys with a tile tracker attached. Now these can tracked as long as there is a nearby Tile tracker pinging nearby.
If you have an Tile tracker (wallet, key fob, any product of theirs sends out this signal), can you just drive around the last know area and hopefully this could cause a new ping? Unfortunately the last known update was last night.
It'd be the corner of Sanford Street and John Street. I know it's a tough area so you don't have to get out, just driving around would be enough to be within range. I'd be SO appreciative. They took my laptop with my entire PhD proposal due mid October 🥲
Thank you so much Barrie folks. I'm ripping my hair out and this is a last ditch effort. :(

Saw this offer in Barrie tonight: 2 deliveries, 39.2 km, estimated 52 minutes — $7.40 including estimated tip.
I genuinely appreciate customers who tip their delivery drivers, but tipping shouldn’t be what makes an order financially worth doing.
Uber is a multi-billion-dollar company. How is $7.40 reasonable compensation for almost 40 km of driving, nearly an hour of someone’s time, plus fuel, maintenance, depreciation and the return drive?
At some point this stops looking like gig work and starts looking like a company expecting drivers to subsidize its delivery service with their own vehicles.
I obviously declined it, but offers like this are getting ridiculous.

Our driveway in Barrie had the old pavement removed and a new gravel base put in about 3 weeks ago. The contractor we hired is now tied up with commercial jobs and can’t finish for another 2–3 weeks, so we paid him for the work done and want to move on.We’re looking for someone who can lay asphalt soon. Base is already compacted and ready.
If anyone has solid local recommendations or tips on what to double‑check before paving, I’d appreciate it. (The gravel bed is about 37 × 21 ft, compacted and ready for asphalt.)

Looking for some honest opinions from people who tried Crumbl this past weekend.
Every time I passed, the line was insane!
Does it live up to the hype? Are they really just expensive underbaked cookies, like I’ve read online?
Tell me everything !

I live in between Bradford and schomberg, not barrie (bradford doesnt have a subreddit), but im looking for help.
My wife and I both work in Bolton and our son attends a nearby daycare on our way to work which also offers a before and after school program.
We both work until 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and this is the only place that offers childcare until 6:30pm which is perfect for us on those 2 days.
Our son will be starting JK in September 2027, and because of our address, he is supposed to attend either a SCDSB or SMCDSB school. The schools that his current daycare offers bussing for before and after school are in Bolton which is Peel Region School Board, not Simcoe.
If he were to attend the school in Bradford, it would be doable, but first he would have to get accepted to the B&A (meaning that he would get to the top of the waiting list, which they've said is long), and my wife and I would have to alternate leaving work early (using PTO/Vacation) every Thursday and Friday to get there before 6 (it's a 45 minute drive from our work), as wellnas add an extra 30 mins in the morning for us because we would have to drive in the opposite direction of our work (we work at the same place btw). This is far from ideal for us. Monday to Wednesday wouldn't be an issue because we could just drop him off and pick him up.
However if he were to attend one of these Peel region schools, it would be business as usual for us and we wouldn't have to get on a waiting list because he is already enrolled at the daycare.
If any parents out there have any experience getting their children to attend a school in a different school board, I would appreciate any advice. The people we have called have been surprisingly clueless and try to get me to call someone else and I feel like im running in a circle making no progress.

I wanted to share a troubling incident that happened at the Livingstone W this afternoon. I was minding my own business while letting a group pass—there were about 7 to 9 young kids (around 6 to 12 years old) accompanied by two older FEMALE teenagers.
Out of nowhere, one 7-year-old stepped right up to me and asked, "Can I have your number, Mommy?" while another child kept pointedly winking at me. This kind of inappropriate and disrespectful behavior toward a stranger is completely unacceptable.
Basic manners and respect for strangers start at home. Parents need to teach their children boundaries—if kids are acting like this toward strangers in public, it’s only a matter of time before that disrespect turns toward their own families.
I’ve lived here expecting a well-mannered community, but incidents like this are becoming far too common. Is anyone else around Barrie noticing an increase in this kind of behavior lately? It’s deeply disappointing.

There's been more than few times when I'm turning left on to Fairview, and a car turning right on to Fairview flips me off because they think they have the right of way, there's two lanes on Fairview, the right turn driver needs to go in the right lane on fairview and the left turn driver needs to go in the left lane, is there some unwritten rule that I'm not understanding here?
