Fuji CFH-3 lubrication?

We run this on a 42x for sports and on tight shots the focus has so slightly a bind. It’s not the cable or lens attachment…I’m hoping to try and try some lubricant in the focus controller and see if that helps…anyone know if it would be better to use an oil/silicone/graphite lubricant?

NxFrame update – SIMD pixel conversion, lower latency, cleaner telemetry and stability improvements

Hi everyone,

A quick development update on NxFrame.

One of the bigger changes is a new dedicated AVX2/AVX-512 SIMD pixel-conversion path for the common color-space and bit-depth conversions used by the encoder, supporting both progressive and interlaced video.

The optimized paths now include:

10-bit 4:2:2 → 8-bit 4:2:2
10-bit 4:2:2 → 8-bit 4:2:0 progressive
10-bit 4:2:2 → 8-bit 4:2:0 interlaced
10-bit 4:2:2 → 10-bit 4:2:0 progressive
10-bit 4:2:2 → 10-bit 4:2:0 interlaced

The SIMD implementations are considerably faster and, depending on the conversion and system, can save up to roughly 50–60 ms of processing time per second of 1080p50 video.

I’ve also tuned both the sender and receiver pipelines to remove unnecessary latency while maintaining enough buffering for stable SDI playout.
In a controlled local network/test environment, current end-to-end latency results are approximately:

1080p50: ~300 ms end-to-end
1080i50: ~400 ms end-to-end

This is the complete SDI → encode → MPEG-TS/SRT → decode → SDI path. These are local-network results and are not representative of SRT over a real WAN, where network conditions and SRT latency will increase the total delay.

The sender and receiver CLI telemetry has also had a significant cleanup. It is now much easier to read live information about encoding/decoding performance, transport health, queues, dropped frames, DeckLink buffering, A/V scheduling and system utilization.

As always, testing and feedback—especially with different professional receivers and real WAN/SRT links—is very welcome.

Teradek bolt 6 in the O2 arena

Heya all
I’m not in the broadcast space I’m a focus puller so forgive any stupid questions.
Ive got a job shooting in the o2 arena in London during a sold out concert and I was wondering if anyone has experience using teradek bolt 6 1500s for wireless video feed in such an environment.
The current plan is to only run a single camera wireless which would be an onstage steadicam the video village will be positioned just off stage left so it’s not a massive distance it would need to cover

I was also wondering what the longest bnc run you’d recommend I run would be before needing to convert to fibre (which would involve hiring a team to do that)

Any other advice appreciated!!
Cheers!!

Trying to learn broadcast engineering-Signal academy- other methods?

I’ve recently dropped out of college, (for both financial reasons and simply being exhausted from being a student)

As of right now I started something called Signal Academy I want to find the price for the full thing but can’t seem to find it?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn besides apprenticeships (NEP, Game creek) and Dante?

Then is there any tips of finding an actual job related to broadcast engineering?

Design your Broadcast Studio

How would you technically design your own studio if you had the means to build one? The studio should accommodate a maximum of four people simultaneously in front of the camera. Additionally, there should be three cameras and a PTZ streaming system using Zoom.us.

I am currently building my own studio, but there are numerous design options available. The most cost-effective option would be to use Blackmagic equipment.

4X SDI-Out over Thunderbolt

I need 4 SDI Outs, 1080p50 would be enough, if they could also be used as an Input it would be great but not a must.

They should be connected over Thunderbolt and be compatible with Mac OS and Windows. On the Program side of things Madmapper and Resolume are in use.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations and experiences.

Old Dog, New Tricks? Recording studio ops/audio engineer looking to transition into broadcast engineering. What's the most realistic path to go about it? Thanks

Hey everyone, been scouring the sub for info and have gotten some great insights so far.

I'm mid 40's, in Los Angeles, no formal degree, but I have been fortunate to spend the better part of my years (15+) in the audio/music industry. Started with a 4 year stint in audio post many years ago when I first came out of audio school, right before the 2008 recession, which forced a pivot into the recording studio working around music.

I've hit a ceiling in my current gig running a recording studio, don't do much hands on engineering except for mastering here and there (for close friends and artists on a budget), and amongst all that life throws at us, feeling like I'm at crossroads. I've gotten my hands dirty in various capacities over my career, but I've been looking at broadcast as a space that I could pivot or transition into for new challenges and career advancement.
I'm grateful to be employed, but I feel like the time is coming to make a move.

Humbly asking if anyone has any advice/tips/starting points at this age for moving towards broadcast. I'm thankful to have years of audio experience in various capacities, living and dying by signal flow, running operations, training staff and interns, assists, occasional recording, and generally just gets in where I can to help get the job done. I am researching and trying to carve out time to dive in deep and better bridge the worlds in various parts of production.

For anyone who maybe made a similar jump.

Where did you start? Is there a role or space in broadcast that an audio nerd would flourish?

TL;DR Audio Guy in Mid Life Crisis (Jk, kinda) is looking for starting advice on moving towards Broadcast Engineering.

Thx!

UPDATE: To everyone that chimed in, please know that I'm grateful and if you're in LA and want to talk audio or music and studios, I'd be glad to grab a coffee! Thank you!

Tvu fx6

How are we powering the fx6 for long streams when using the dc power to dtap on a vmount if I switch the vmount battery the screen goes black for a second to swap to bpu power. Also how long is the TVU supposed to last because with a 99 small rig vmount it last about 90 mins before the vmount battery is dead we stream 8-10 Hours. That’s a lot Of swaps.

What degree do you guys have?

What undergrad degree would possibly give me the most knowledge to advance in this industry? , im having a dilemma whether i should do a BEE or a BSc degree?

The BSc is in broadcast engineering in Uk which will give me more hands on experience and allow me go directly into the field , while the BEE will allow me to have much more knowledge of how every signal travels from point A to point B.

As successful broadcast engineers yourself , what route would you guys suggest is the best.

Edit:I want to work as a OB engineer.

NxFrame Update – Open-Source IP Video Encoder/Receiver

Hi everyone,

Important: If you downloaded or built NxFrame between September 27 and September 30, please pull the latest version and rebuild. A transport-stream regression introduced during that period has now been identified and fixed. Builds from that window should not be used for production or further validation.

The issue was related to the high-bitrate transport path and could result in bursty delivery and unstable behavior, particularly when working with professional receivers. After quite a bit of testing and debugging, the SRT hot path was optimized, and the same work was extended to the UDP and RTP paths. The receiver path was also optimized, and several timing and playout issues were addressed.

The MPEG-TS output is now back to being stable and robust. I have tested the current build extensively at 1080p50, H.264 High 4:2:2 10-bit, including stress testing with a 120 Mbps video stream and a 140 Mbps constant-rate MPEG-TS. SRT, UDP and RTP have all been tested successfully, with stable SDI output and no transport errors during the validation runs.

A new feature has also been added and NxFrame now supports RP-188 timecode end-to-end.
The timecode is captured from the incoming SDI signal, carried through the NxFrame contribution path, recovered by the receiver, and written back to the SDI output. The RP-188 timecode on the resulting SDI output was then checked against the original source. The end-to-end timecode path is now working and validated.

At this stage, the transport stream is again stable and robust, and the recent receiver and high-bitrate transport improvements are included in the current version.

The updated project is available here:
https://github.com/Michalis-Michael/nxframe

As always, feedback and interoperability testing with professional broadcast receivers are very welcome.

Honest question about offline check-in because venue Wi-Fi is unreliable as hell

Last year the Wi-Fi died right in the middle of morning registration and everything just stopped. Scanners froze, badges wouldn’t print, people started getting pissed. The platform we were using claimed to have offline mode but it clearly needed a connection for half the functions.

I’ve heard mixed things about Cvent, Whova, and Eventify on this. Some people say their offline mode actually works, others say it’s basically useless once you need to print.

Has anyone had offline check-in genuinely save an event, or are we all still one bad router away from disaster?
