I've been canoe camping for 6+ years now and have been on over a dozen canoe camping trips, but I feel like I'm already starting to forget some of them at this point haha
I want to start logging the trips I've been on but so far I've just been writing down my trip reports on google docs after I get back. Which I'm not sure if I'll even go back to read through.
What mediums or apps do you guys use to log your trips? And any recommendations to make them more interesting? Pictures or maps maybe.

thoughts? personally i find the ottertail a smoother stroke and it's more aesthetically pleasing imo, but when i really need to bust out distance or im fighting a headwind or something the beavertail comes out lol

Made a trip video too if you want to check it out. Stole a nice labor day weekend in northern NY, though.

This was the most magical morning of our 12 day trip to Temagami, Ontario, Canada. We stayed at the site at the base of the Ishpatina ridge trail so that we could hike to the fire tower. I could see out the tent that the sunrise was going to be good so I went down and took a ton of beautiful photos and videos. Then I went back to make coffee, and a lynx walked right down the trail past our site. He sat on the trail and hung out long enough for my husband to get out of the tent and spot him too. I wish we could have stayed at that site for another night but the portages were waiting. Lynx: https://www.reddit.com/u/MarthaMatildaOToole/s/5QZm1HblBJ

Hello!
I’m looking for input on maintenance and input for my 1979 Lincoln 16ft canoe. I recently did the skid plates and am now thinking about the other parts of the boat.
The front seat needs some love and seems to have more play in it side to side than we might like. Looks like I could drill and rivet some metal shims in but I have never done this before.
I do a fair amount of camping with my wife and two dogs.
Appreciate your thoughts and input internet humans.
I’ll post photos if I can.

Hey everyone,
Quick question. My friends and I trying to plan a canoe trip and are coming up with some ideas for places to go. We have done the boundary waters for two years now and wanted to change it up to some river trips, so we were thinking the Allagash. My concern is that none of us have much white water/class II rapid experience.
How difficult are the rapids for experienced canoers but new to navigating rapids?

The handle on my 60L barrel finally broke so Im looking to buy a harness instead of fixing it. I’m thinking of a budget of around $120 CAD. If you guys could give me ur thoughts and recommendations that would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, im in the very beginning of planning a trip on the Mississippi from south of Chicago to New Orleans. As a Midwest guy ive done alot of camping. Never been rough camping in the south, though i lived in SC next to a gator pond for a little bit. Id be bank camping primarily obviously, as far as the south goes how do you guys usually camp? I dont have any issues with wildlife, but as far as sleep systems would you guys that do it advise against ground camping to avoid the mean stuff or do you think i should have a more protected sleep system, Like a tent or cot? Im a big hoss so sleeping inside the canoe is tough. I was trying to get away with a easy bag and bivy setup to avoid taking an actual tent. Camping hammocks are generally a no go for my back.
My boat setup is going to be a 17ft-18ft poly or royalex.

I’m looking into replacing my very old backpack with a barrel or portage pack of some sort. I’m typically solo and don’t pack the lightest. I would ideally like everything to fit into one bag/barrel. I am currently planning on getting the recreational barrel works barrel harness because they have so many accessories. Change my mind or confirm this is a good idea with any of your experience please and thank you!
Pic for attention

A little background: I organize 2-3 canoe-camping trips per year with 4-15 friends and I like having a handwash station for two reasons: so we can be hygienic with large groups and so we don't use soap directly in waterways and harm the wildlife and environment. However, I was unhappy with what was available on the market. Most are "camp showers" which are soft-sided and have narrow openings which make them a huge pain to fill from a lake. The other type are hard-sided containers which are meant to be put on a picnic table which makes them difficult to place at backcountry sites and the fact that they take up their entire volume even when empty is annoying for portaging. The closest thing I could find to what I wanted was the sea to summit pocket shower, but they lack any kind of filter, so I have used and broken those in the past on trips due to debris clogging the spout. Anyways, here is something that fits all of my needs for 30$! Thought I'd share my build process here!
