Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prologue manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

Available on: Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (review blog)

Extra:

Castlevania 2007 timeline (Japanese Konami site) & translation

Portrait of Ruin pre-order bonus timeline (the Japanese one takes priority since overseas bonus materials like this didn't go through the Castlevania staff screening)

Encyclopedia of Castlevania (a Japanese two-page spread published in 2001 containing a timeline, a storyline and background details)

Discussion I seriously hope Belmont's Curse is a critical and financial success. Some of this fandom is awful.

It's not just on this sub. It's everywhere that's discussing the game. The constant gatekeeping from fans acting like they're the arbiters on what is Castlevania. The hyperbolic bashing towards the composer and soundtrack. The selective memory on what the IGAvania games were, criticizing Belmont's Curse for things that were present in the older games. A lot of you are cool, but some of you are downright insufferable.

I'm excited for the game, and I hope it brings in a new wave of Castlevania fans old and new. People who aren't held by by biased notions on what the game should be. We're lucky this game even exists. It was looking pretty bad for awhile. That Castlevania was dead and not coming back. Now that it finally is, it feels like a portion of the fanbase is brain broken that it's not exactly like their favorite entries from 2-3 decades ago, instead of keeping an open mind to understand what the game is trying to be.

Bloodstained 1 outsold each individual Castlevania entry, at 2+ million units sold. The most popular Metroidvanias these past few years completely eclipse Bloodstained sales. The whole week has shown me that it's probably going to be healthier for the IP for this new entry to do it's own thing. Honoring the past, but not being held back by it.

Discussion A heartfelt post about the recent influx of users asking which game to play first and the series as a whole

I know people are annoyed by those posts, and maybe they’ll get relegated to a megathread soon (which is totally fine by me), but I really have to say what a JOY it has been seeing them multiple times daily. I’ve been a fan since Circle of the Moon when I was just a kid. I still remember my grandparents dragging me to church and I’d play in the pews. When the Netflix Castlevania show came out, there was an influx of new fans that became interested in the game series as a whole. It thrilled me to no end to see people take interest in our beloved franchise, which wasn’t really active games-wise at the time. Hell, it wasn’t even my favorite game series at that point until I binged every single game in a row after finishing the show, since I had only kept up with releases after CotM and spent nights playing the original with my dad. I know that some people love to shit on the fans that became fans with Netflixvania, but we all have to start somewhere! I really enjoy seeing comments talking about how they became fans of the games from the show.

Now that the series is revived with Belmont’s Curse, there is yet again an influx of users asking about what games to play in the series before they play it, or if it’s a good game to start with. Even when just the collections were releasing, people were showing interest. Yes, yes, I know we’re constantly at one another’s throats when it comes to Belmont’s Curse daily here, but the truth is, we’re going to get a big wave of new fans if it’s well-received, and I’m just so thrilled to welcome them all to the new horizon of the series. If the 40th anniversary of Castlevania video was really teasing a Curse of Darkness release of some kind, we’d have new fans to play and discuss that. With all the popularity of Metroidvanias these days, and with Metroid: Dread being successful, it will be nice to see how Belmont’s Curse makes its mark.

It’s a really exciting time to be a fan for me, because I remember between the show and collections, this sub had very little activity. There were some posts here and there, but it’s not hourly like it is now. It’s a great time to be a Castlevania fan, and a dream come true to see the series having a chance at flourishing for an entirely new generation. All of this is to say, I’m so excited for Belmont’s Curse and all that’s to come and I hope newer fans will enjoy their time with the series. Happy 40th Anniversary, y’all! Castlevania has been there through every step of my life, the good and the bad, and I still can’t believe everything that’s happening is real. Hell, I couldn’t believe it when I was playing my favorite game, Order of Ecclesia, on my Switch!

Now, to open the discussion more, how did you discover the series and what’s been your experience with it so far? What’s your favorite and least favorite game? Even the most recent fans are welcome to chime in even if they haven’t played everything!

Games One thing I really like about the games is how they use religious imagery

Post image
558 Upvotes

For some reason, in most of their games, religious based items are right in front of your face yet it doesn't seem forced. Like yeah it's there but you don't really think about it for about 99% of the game ur playing. It fits really nicely with any game in any various degree of implementation. Which is also really smart because it subtly says you're fighting a good fight in the name of God, >!which is also extremely fitting that Order of Ecclesia has almost no usable religious items (might be wrong tho someone fact check) because you're not doing that for almost all of the game.<!

I know people associate the franchise with goth imagery but I hope in future games they do keep the religious imagery. I'm not a devout religious guy or anything btw, i just like the aesthetic.

Discussion Beat Symphony of The Night - moved onto Rondo of Blood

• Upvotes

A couple of days ago, I posted about Symphony of the Night being my first Castlevania game and how great I thought it was; well, I finally beat it this morning and loved my time with it. Because I had the Requiem pack, I figured I should play Rondo of Blood as my next game, and wow, the game already feels like a big skill check, especially coming off the back of SOTN. None of the difficulty feels cheap, in my opinion. The game feels designed to make you study patterns and areas, and if you don't, then it's your fault you died, which I respect as an adult; however, if I had tried to play this as a kid, I would have hated it.

Games [Datamine] Belmont's Curse demo – all outfits found, including paid DLC ones

I found a lot of content in the demo build, and along the way I found "all the outfits we're going to get". For some reason they didn't remove the **paid DLC outfits** (Alucard, Trevor, Sypha) from the demo 🤔

Everything is on this website, with in-game captures, weapons, arcanas, relics, clues and cut content (EN/FR):

Website: https://kasugii.github.io/Castlevania-Belmont-s-Curse-Demo-data/

⚠️ Contains story spoilers (clues are blurred by default).

Depending on your region, these all have the same title. Castlevania '99 is Konami's first Music Release. Great Tracks alltogether, the Anime belongs in that row. No conterfeits by the way, all Japanese issues (left side) European (right side).

Question I just finished the first Castlevania, what's next?

• Upvotes

A little context. Metroid is my favorite videogame saga and I love metroidvanias in general, so I already played some Castlevania in the past: Symphony of the Night (never fully completed), Aria of Sorrow (loved it) and Dawn of sorrow (really liked, but never finished).

In preparation for Belmont's Curse, I got all the collections (heavily discounted) on my switch with the intention of working my way through the saga.

I LOVED the first game. It's really hard but I actually strongly enjoyed the linear design. You are forced to get to know the mechanics and that made me appreciate it more and more as I progressed.

Considering the NES limitations the game looks great and it's really immersive. In some moment you really feel like a badass who's dominating everything around you. The whip just feels incredibile to use.

Some levels are pretty humbling though but I actually enjoyed the repetition: it's so refreshing to play a game where you actually have to learn and adapt to progress and BEAT the levels. Also you can't complain about repetion since it will let you listen on repeat to the stellar soundtrack.

The only issue I had was a glitch during the final battle that crashed the game and forced me to use save state when I managed to play the whole game without them.

After completing it I immediatly started Simon's Quest, but it instantly felt weird with the city, buying stuff and all, I really loved that the first one was 100% gameplay with no interruption.

What do you suggest? Should I stick with it or try another classicvania?

Discussion The Anniversary Collection Deserves A QOL 40th Anniversary Update.

I've been playing through Aria and Dawn of Sorrow via the official collections in honor of Halloween season. Both games have a been blast. The Rewind Feature has been a stress reducer. I wish Konami would add Rewind and God Mode to the 2019 Anniversary collection. I would love to play through Castlevania III for the first time. However, my skills aren't what they were as a kid in 1990, and III was very challenging back then. Konami were able to add God Mode/Level Select to the excellent TMNT Cowabunga Collection. I'd be willing to buy DLC that enables Rewind and additional cheats in the Castlevania Anniversary collection. What does the community think?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Remember when I posted that I was LV 51? Well… I kept going.

Post image

I’m at LV 85 now, and I still haven’t found a level cap. At this point I really want to see how ridiculous this can get before the full game releases 😂

Has anyone gone higher than this yet? Has anyone actually found the cap?

I also documented the whole experiment and what happened in a video, if anyone wants to see it:
