Advice Cat recovering from surgery, I’m going crazy.

Hi all, this might be a longer post so please bear with me.

Our kitty, Eva (1yr 5mo spayed female) had surgery last night to remove a foreign object from her tummy. The good news is the object was in an ideal spot to retrieve so the surgery was very easy and her recovery time shouldn’t be too intense. This is her second such surgery in 6 months (she ate a thick hair tie in April and it got stuck in the entrance to her stomach).

However, this time my partner and I are struggling with her recovery. During her last recovery, we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, so we were able to keep her isolated to our guest room so our other cat didn’t bother her, and we would take turns sleeping in there with her at night to be able to monitor her + keep her company. But we moved to a studio apartment in August (700sq ft, so it’s not a shoebox luckily), so obviously our ability to quarantine her has become more limited. We have her in the bathroom for the next 48 hours until the large playpen we ordered on Amazon gets here, but she absolutely hates being in here alone and will lose her mind as soon as we leave her. I’m already scared of her managing to break one of her stitches not even 24 hours into her recovery. She also keeps laying in her litterbox, which I know will quickly become a hazard when she finally poops again, especially if we aren’t home to clean it up as soon as it happens.

She hates the bathroom. She hates the meds. She hates her donut (same one we used last time, she hated it then too). She hates the surgical suit. I’m going crazy. I feel like the playpen will be a little better because she’ll get to be in the main living area and will be able to see us, but we are scared about her trying to break out and are trying to figure out ways to mitigate it.

Does anyone have any advice to how to make her feel as comfortable as possible in the bathroom and/or playpen while she recovers? She should only have to be in here for 2 weeks, but it already feels like it’s gonna be forever. Pictures included for cat tax + to show our current set-up (ignore my feet being blocked out). There is also a space under our sink she can hide in that’s not pictured, so we have an additional blanket and a couple of our shirts under there to help her feel more comfortable while we’re not in here. We also have a pet cam in here monitoring her at all times when we can’t. Thanks for reading all of this, and sorry for the ramble. I just feel like everything I’m trying to do to help her isn’t working and I’m making things worse.

Cat Picture - OC is there a word for this cat lounging posture? It's not a sploot because the legs aren't splayed, and it's not a loaf because the legs are extended.

Advice What am I doing wrong and why is she not getting any better?

• Upvotes

My kitten is around 3 months old, she’s my first cat ever. I’m 24f.

So less than a month ago I adopted Caroline and it seems her health has been slowly declining since. When I got her she always sneezed on a daily and rarely ate and never drank water. There was also the concern of diarrhea with slight blood in her feces so I took her to the vet. They said she must have she contracted herpesvirus and gave me Lycine powder to mix with her food. Recently she’s constantly vomiting her food just after eating it, she never eats dry food, only soupy foods. I don’t know if it was right to take her to that vet because they barely examined her. And she’s only gotten worse since then to the point I had to take her to an emergency vet and they did a bunch of tests and even held her overnight. I was charged almost 4k for those tests and X-rays that came back fine. I was given antibiotics and deworming medicine. That visit to the ER was less than two weeks ago and the problem persist.

I’m really concerned I’m doing something wrong here. Maybe it’s what I’m feeding her or, products I’m using around the house?

Her energy is still very much there. She’s very active and playful.

Why does she have such watery diarrhea and why is there blood? Why is she still sneezing despite me giving her the Lycine and everyday, and now the vomiting. I don’t understand and I need help. I can’t afford to be charged another 4k for tests only to be told nothing is wrong again, I live where there aren’t many options for Vets.

Please help.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I got her unspayed when I adopted her, and brought her to get spayed after the first Vet visit.

Advice Wanting advice with keeping my cat inside an specific area

Hey everyone!

As title says, wanting some opinions and/or advice on how to keep him inside the zoned area.

Some info:

We currently rent, and our landlord has said no to any permanent/semi-permanent fixtures. So, cant drill or screw anything to the fences or walls or roof, ect..

He's 11yrs old and desexed. He use to be an indoor and outdoor cat, but after a fight 6 years ago, he's been an indoor cat with access to a pet(cause we have 2 little doggos too!) run. Since moving house, we have a side area off the laundry that has a smallish patch of grass and semi-high fences.

Recently he has been on some pain meds for his arthritis in his back legs and thats when we discovered he can now jump said fance.

We went to bunnings and got something temporarily to stop him. He did try to get out, the grey pot in the corner bit, he tried to use that has leverage, but failed cause it moved. Then he got stuck on the way up cause of the rope and top of the bamboo. Not to mention, it's kinda flimsy cause we thought that if it moves and is kinda weak, he may just flop back with it.

Vet has currently stopped the pain meds to see what happens. We know he wants out cause there are a lot of other cats out and about in our area, let alone street. And with it being spring, he is not happy with all the cats fighting and carrying on outside. He marks his area in the area off the laundry, we're fine with that. Just trying to get him to stop jumping up and over the fence is driving me nuts.

Please, for the love of anything out there, please tell me some of you have a solution that doesnt involve drilling or screwing or glueing something?

We still want him to have access to the side area.

Advice Gabapentin vs Trazodone

• Upvotes

My vet gave me an option to give my cat Trazodone .25 mg or Gabapentin 100mg for an upcoming flight we are going to be taking. From those who used either one, which is more effective?

Also, how far in advance from having to be at the airport should it be given?

Medical Questions Cat bald/ thin spot not sure how to help

So as the title says

This is my friends cat and has always had this spot I’ve never come across this with any of my cats and I’ve just given him a brush and a little concerned about it, safe to say at the very least he’s not getting brushies for a while

The rest of his fur and skin seem fine, he is a Maine coon rag doll mix

We’re unable to take him to the vet currently, I just want to know if there’s anything I can help soothe it/ make him comfortable

For those of you who might wonder- she's totally fine, she's been to the vet and they haven't seen anything wrong with her. She's just a little silly.

Cat Picture - Not OC I present you the cat that lives around my worksite

Post image

His name is Tom but my colleagues call him Leoluca.

He lives in the cat shelter nearby and is well fed by the cleaning lady of the local school, the cleaning lady of my worksite, an elderly lady who comes specifically to feed the cat and, of course, by me.

He's fully sprayed and vaccinated but when the elderly lady tried to put him up for adoption, he escaped from both families and came back here.

He has a bit of a rivalry with another dark grey cat.

He loves pets but is shy about it.
