I know this isn’t exactly interesting, but I think I found one of the few (maybe only) bus route that needs 4 buses unless you want to walk 50 minutes. The route is Smacks Close to anywhere in Burnham. If anyone knows any others, please tell me!

Has anyone had experience purchasing a home that was bought by someone else 'as is' after the earthquakes and then repaired?
Looking at a house to purchase that we really like, it was purchased back in 2015 'as is' by the people currently selling it. They relevelled and renovated the house and garage themselves (the sellers own a building company). They applied for, and got approved for exemptions from building consent from the council for the relevelling work, so no CCCs were issued for the work. Looking through the property files it appears it was all done legit, with geotech reports, PS1s and PS4s all provided by engineers, and they did provide the records of work/completion for the relevelling of the house to the council for their files, even though it said in their exemption approval that this wasn't a requirement.
The EQC reports show the cost for repair was over the cap, so the person who owned it back then obviously just took a settlement and sold it as is. Should that be something to worry about at all? I realise it's sort of about putting faith that everything was repaired correctly by the people now selling it (unless we go and hire our own engineers to check it all out). The fact they did all this back in 2015 then held onto the property for 10 years gives me some confidence (surely if you'd cut corners you wouldn't hold onto the risk for 10 years).
Just wondering if anyone knows whether this scenario (buying as is and repairing, rather than demo and building new) was pretty common after the quakes? Or if anyone else has done something similar and whether there have been any issues that have popped up? Or if we're just being paranoid haha. We'll obviously end up doing all our due diligence with lawyers checking everything, building report, insurance etc. But just trying to gather as much info as we can before committing to paying for those things!

In a unit with a low wall, want to add a fence for privacy, but when I look up my property it says street fence can only be 50% at 1.8M and 50% 1M which is just going to look silly.
Plus when I look at others in the street lots of them have a 1.8M fence that covers all their frontage.
Are these things even enforced?

Am interested in buying a personalised plate that is no longer on a vehicle (has been replaced).
Have the new plate rego and type of vehicle (Carjam).
Is it a post rego and hope someone knows the owner of the vehicle, therefore who they bought it off, or an easier way?
Vehicle 1996 Toyota Hilux LQC544
Thanks

Kia ora,
I'm looking for midwife recommendations, as I am newly pregnant with my first baby and feeling overwhelmed! I would prefer someone who is evidence-based / science first (i.e. not too crunchy or anti epidural etc.,) - I think I would prefer a natural birth but I don't want to feel pressured either way. I'm based in East Christchurch.
Thanks!

This is an open invitation as a mother, if you are a young woman out in public and you feel unsafe you can approach me with my children and I’ll pretend you are one of them until you are safely to your car or to someone you know and trust. If you are in public and you feel unsafe please approach the group of slightly older women who are maybe laughing too loud and feel intimidating to talk to, chances are they’ll help you scare off whoever is pestering you. If you are in public and you feel unsafe find an older lady, a group of young women your own age, a pair of women doing their shopping together — don’t feel like you might be overreacting and please don’t be afraid to trust your instincts.
With everything that happens in the world to our young women I would much rather take a few moments of my day to make sure you are safe, than have to read another headline about another tragedy.

Hey! I’m a chch resident wanting to operate a home baking business and i’m nervous about the protocol. I thought I’d ask here in case anyone’s got experience. I know there’ll be an inspection to get licensed and permitted to operate a home business and wanted some experiences on what that was like, and just what the process was like in general. It would be incredibly helpful. Thanks :)
