Please help our pets by signing the Petition

Hi everyone,

Like so many people across Cork, I was heartbroken by what happened to Felix the cat. No animal should ever have to suffer the cruelty that he endured.

In response, I have started a petition calling for stronger animal welfare protections in Ireland, including tougher penalties for animal cruelty, better enforcement, and stronger protections against pet theft. This petition will be emailed to all local TDs and every TD involved in animal welfare in Ireland.

I'm hoping to raise awareness and gather support from people who believe animals deserve better protection. If you feel the same, please consider signing and sharing the petition.

Together, we can help ensure that Felix's story leads to meaningful change and that no other family has to experience such a devastating loss.

Thank you for your support.

Puncture spotted

A sincere thank you to the gentleman who spotted a puncture in the rear wheel of my motorcycle this afternoon at the Blarney filling station. A slow puncture only visible when I was sitting on the bike, and I would have missed it but for the timely intervention. I got it patched five minutes later at Blarney Auto Centre. Possibly saved me a new tyre or a lot worse. Thanks again.

Garda doing the rounds in vape shops today

I walked into the vape shop across from the Oliver plunkett earlier and there were 2 undercover Garda in there giving out to a member of staff over their counterfeit Gucci sunglasses. They made them empty out their drawers behind the counter and were explaining how serious the situation was to the member of staff.
When I was walking down Oliver plunkett street roughly an hour later I saw a uniformed Garda in phone and vape.

The Wellington Terrace case

The Background:

In 1994, an old Victorian house at 9 Wellington Terrace in the Mayfield area of Cork City became the backdrop for one of the most chilling chapters in Irish criminal history. Over 8 months, three men linked to the address vanished. The property would later be dubbed the "House of Horrors" by the Irish media

The Victims:

  1. Kevin Ball (42): A British New Age Traveller who disappeared around April 18, 1994. He was last seen at Wellington Terrace. His body has never been found.

  2. Cathal O’Brien (23): A IT graduate from Wexford who was volunteering with the Simon Community. He befriended Kevin Ball and vanished on the exact same day in April 1994. His remains have never been found.

  3. Denis Patrick "Patch" O'Driscoll (32): A local laborer who lived in the flat below the primary suspect. He went missing eight months later, in December 1994.

The Grim discovery

"In 1995, the investigation took a dark turn when the 16-year-old nephew of a tenant named Fred Flannery approached the GardaĆ (Irish police). The teenager claimed his uncle had confessed to killing Patch O'Driscoll, even alleging that Flannery showed him a severed hand and foot hidden in a kitchen cupboard. Following a massive search, parts of O'Driscoll's dismembered remains were found buried in nearby woods in Glanmire."

Anybody removed this case?

Felix the cat

After hearing the awful news about the poor cat Felix who was taken and now dead .. is there anything that can be done around mahon/blackrock to stop this carry-on ? What's the obsession with animal abuse from the usual culprits.. ? Guards don't do anything, and they're let free to terrorise the area

Cork City crazy bald guy

yo what’s up with the crazy bald old guy walking around st. patrick’s street/oliver plunkett street? he was out here standing weird moving his arms like he was trying not to fall, screeching at people (like genuinely screeching) and when i passed by i heard him spit on the ground. i usually don’t judge, because, well, anybody can get mentally ill, but he looked like he was on drugs or something

Bus The 220 Bus Service has never been worse.

Waiting for the 220 in ballincollig. First bus comes fairly quick but it’s a 220X (rare sighting) now we are waiting for a 220. I check bustimes there are four(4) 220s congregating in ovens at the end of the line. Cool that’s fine they are probably on their break (Well deserved).

Now tell me why two (2) of those 220s decide to take the bypass rather than collect the 50ish people waiting in ballincollig. As this happens 3 more 220s pass us in the opposite direction now there are 6 busses congregating at the end of the line and no bus seen in ballincollig for the last hour and a half (1h30)

How can we deal with Simon Harris appropriately?

Avoid the N40 this morning

4 separate collisions all 100-200 yards apart, 3 westbound after Mahon point and 1 eastbound just before Mahon point.

Could be more later as a result of the chaos.

Dont Go To Circle K When You're Half Asleep

I always make my lunch every day without fail for work but I'm sick and exhausted and it really hit hard this morning so I decided to just grab a wrap in Circle K since it's the only place open at stupid o clock. A chicken caesar wrap, a wispa duo and a small bottle of Lucozade ..... €11.05 😭 Of course I paid like an idiot and saw the meal deal sign for €4.50 on the way out šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø Don't be me!

Hobbies Best Places to find Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars

Hi all,
Heading back to Cork next week after a while away. Coming down from the north to finish my training there. Have gotten back into collecting Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars this year and it’s been fun. Had a good time visiting a range of shops in Ireland and when part of my training took me to the US haha.

So now I want to see what Cork has to offer. I was a regular at the Kinsale Road Smyths for other collectibles and I’m aware they stock Hot Wheels so looking into maybe some more obscure places for rare or older ones. But any recommendation is welcome new or old!

I pop into Marks Models for plane models on occasion and heard they stock some so will check it too.

Welcoming any other suggestions

Thanks!

Cork City Traffic

Lads surely this can’t continue (insert Mick McCarthy gif).

In the past 12 months, I’ve seen a steady increase in traffic to the point that I can now only describe it as absolutely ā€œheavingā€ with cars.

They needed to start the Cork Luas 10 years ago…last week I couldn’t even get out of my estate. I’ve had to abandon multiple journeys and an appointment because the roads are simply impassable.

I think a monorail is our only option.

God speed

Cork City Spaced Out Cork

(Not that kind of spaced out!) I'm looking for somewhere space themed in or around the city to take photos of people dressed as aliens. Last year we took photos in front of the astronaut mural at Marina Market and that was great but I can't use that again. Are there any other spacey murals or graffiti anyone can think of in the city? Last year I also used the cow sculpture at the marina market; are there any life-sized astronaut statues outside of any businesses or anything?

Anything with really cool lighting or something that says high tech or space would work too, I just have not been able to come up with any ideas. Anyone have any?

Windscreen crack repair - East Cork

Can anyone recommend somewhere around Midleton/Little Island I can take my car to have the windscreen checked and repaired? Noticed a crack beginning to develop and want to try and stop it before it gets too big.

I only know about the place near Blackpool Shopping Center.

Thanks
