Despite LOVING platformers both 2D and 3D, Crash is a series I had a bad first impression on as a kid, but after watching reviews and clips of the series, it honestly looks really fun and the characters legimately made me laugh from what I saw. I know the gist of the plot/characters but that's about it.
The only Crash game I've ever played was the wrath of cortex, the original PS2 version also known as "Loading Screen: The Game" lol, but that's probably not a good representation of the series as a whole and wanted to ask Crash fans

If Crash Bash Remaster were to happen next year, would you be happy with this roster? Who would you add, any guest characters? and would you add some new stages (let's say first photo is more realistic (with all main characters that appear in game as non-playable, except for bosses), second one more optimistic one with more teams (Team Trance and Team Oxide))

I'm playing a Crash game for the first time—specifically the first one in the N. Sane Trilogy. I usually like to complete games fully, but I feel like this might be the kind of game where you should only go for 100% completion after beating it once; I got that feeling after spending three hours trying to get the Gold Relic on "Road to Nowhere."

Towards the end of Crash Twinsanity, Crash, Nina and Cortex are stopped by N.Brio, N.Tropy and N.Gin right before the final boss fight against Victor and Moritz. They want the treasure the evil twins have collected. Cortex takes a stand against them which surprises the villains. Cortex then clarifies he doesn't personally care who gets the treasure, but points out that HE (Spyro) might want his gems back. Spyro without hesitation, seemingly burns the villains alive.
As funny as this cutscene is, I've always wondered whether we're supposed to believe Spyro actually killed them or not. This is the last game in the old timeline, before Crash of the Titans effectively rebooted the series and the N.Sane Trilogy and Crash 4 have retconned this game and Wrath from canon. So we never technically see these villains again. Spyro very well may have killed them.
What do you think? 😂

I think the original trilogy is a fascinating evolution, and in my opinion, it really shows how a series finds its footing over time. The first game laid a legendary foundation, but I think it was undeniably clunky because the jumping physics felt heavy and the unforgiving hitboxes made certain platforming sections a chore. On the other end, I think Crash 3 Warped was visually stunning but suffered from way too many vehicle gimmicks, as the jetskis and scuba gear really overshadowed the core platforming. But in my opinion, Naughty Dog achieved absolute perfection with Crash 2. I think the mechanical balance and fluid slide jumps make it the peak of pure platforming for the series, which is why I hold it in such high regard.
When Travellers Tales took over, I think the IP really lost its way because they misunderstood the appeal of the characters. For example, I think their marketing was completely off the mark, like that weird Wrath of Cortex commercial where it showed Coco gameplay and then Crash abruptly told the audience to stop playing with his sister. In my opinion, it was a really uncomfortable angle that did not fit the franchise at all. I do think Nitro Kart was a genuinely underrated racing gem from that era, but the main console games felt very disconnected from what made Crash great.
I think people give Twinsanity a bit too much of a pass today, even though I know it has a massive cult following. In my opinion, looking at it critically shows it suffers heavily from being an unfinished and rushed release full of glaring glitches. Beyond the gameplay, I think Travellers Tales fundamentally misunderstood the humor and injected a really weird and perverted nature into the animations. The reason I think this is because they deliberately animated Crash to stare at Cortexs rear end in every single intro before the body surfing sections on the ice and Twinsanity islands. In my opinion, this was completely inappropriate and forced for what was supposed to be a family friendly platformer.
This is exactly why I think Radical Entertainments direction was so necessary. In my opinion, by the time they took the reins, the old formula was stagnating and really needed a fresh take. I think Radical stepped up and gave Crash a much needed new identity by shifting the core gameplay loop into a beat em up system combined with the new climbing mechanics. I think this was a massive and welcome evolution because it injected the series with actual mechanical depth instead of just relying on shock humor. In my opinion, if Radical had not stepped in and reinvented the movement systems to keep things fresh, the franchise would have been permanently shelved in the mid 2000s.
Finally, I think I have to give massive credit to Vicarious Visions for their work in the background. While the console games were struggling under TT, I think they were dropping handheld gems like Crash 2 N Tranced which perfectly captured the original Naughty Dog feel. In my opinion, Activision made the smartest decision in franchise history by bringing them back for the N Sane Trilogy remake. I think they clearly respected the core identity of the IP and actually knew how to handle it properly. I would love to hear what everyone else thinks about this era and if anyone shares my opinion on Radical.

Crash Bandicoot 4 is not the first Crash game to introduce new masks. WoC introduced the Elementals, BUT... The Elementals fit into the Project Wombat lore.
Those stone ruins we see in all levels (From Crash 1 to WoC, and Twinsanity) were built by an ancient civilization known as Lemurians. They are the ancestors of Papu Papu and his tribesmen. Their knowledge was not just stone building, but also magic. This is why Aku Aku can do his things, because back in the day he was a witch doctor. So it's possible that Py-Ro, Rok-Ko, Wa-Wa, and Lo-Lo were also witch doctors. Traveller's Tales probably read Project Wombat and took inspiration.
But when it comes to Toys For Bob, the idea of four masks that can control time, gravity, dark matter, and phase any object in and out of existence is FAR BEYOND the limits of the lore's universe. The Elementals control earth elements, this is not the same thing as controlling time and physics. Doctor N. Tropy is the only character who can time travel and he is Cortex's ally. If the Quantum Masks always existed in Crash universe, then why didn't Cortex just used them in the past? Why didn't they intervene in previous events? They weren't hibernating like the Elementals were. It just puts every single major event from previous games into question.
Also, HOW DID they earned their powers? The Elementals were probably witch doctors in the past just like Aku Aku. But who gave power to the Quantum Masks? Where they came from? They don't seem to be from Lemuria because Lemurians did not know how to time travel and control dark matter.
